The blade upon Roland’s head sliced through nothing but empty air, missing Cierra entirely as his momentum propelled him forwards and past her. How had she managed to evade him so suddenly? He bit back a grunt of irritation as the smaller mare threw her weight onto her forehand and kicked out at him, wings thrown wide. Her hoof scraped the skin of his ribcage, but did no harm otherwise. He wheeled around, hooves sliding across the damp grass as he cast the mare a look of pure venom.

Black feathers beat the air frantically, blending into the darkness of night so the only thing that told of their presence was the sound of wind and what could be compared to the rustling of fabric. Cierra had lifted from the ground before Roland had the chance to retaliate, though he took a step forwards as she launched herself into the night sky. He stood below her and tilted his head, looking up at her with a sharp glare even as a menacing smile grew on his lips.

You can’t hide up there forever, little dove!” He called out tauntingly, tail lashing at his heels like a cat’s. He watched her for a moment, hovering like a timid insect and looking back down at him with an intense stare, though her face was very much shrouded in the darkness. Roland clenched his jaw and let his head drop, eyes raking the darkness as his gaze swept across the field and to the forest’s edge. He wasn’t interested in playing games with her, and there were probably others lurking about who would provide him with a more fruitful chase.

Rolling his shoulders, he cast another dark glance up at the Pegasi and twisted his mouth into a bitter line, as if he’d accidentally eaten a sour dandelion or other, equally unappetizing weed. “Looks like you’ve got the upper hand this time, but if we meet again you won’t get away so easily,” he warned, leering up at her. He never took to losing kindly, especially if he lost to a hornless. Curling his lip, he cast Cierra one last glance and turned on his haunches, making his way towards the forest. His interest in her had waned, for he didn’t feel like chasing around an airborne abomination late into the night when he had better things to do, and a new world to terrorize- er, explore.
