PASS
Lots of extra fluff and lines, but nothing that misdirected and overall was an understandable stealth.

Cormac has congenital analgesia, which is the lack of any pain perception.
Essentially, he would never learn not to get burned because it wouldn't physically hurt. People who manage to make it to adulthood with congenital analgesia often are missing fingers or have burned hands because of similar problems.
FAIL -- although I really like the explanation of this clue, I think at face value it doesn't direct that way enough for it to be solveable, as I don't think many people know that without doing some research and there's not enough in the clue to direct them that way. However it was neat.

Color reference: Cormac is brown (dark sooty bay), the color of dirt.
PASS -- pretty simple

PASS -- although this is a bit weak compared to the other clues, it's fairly easy to understand the point of the clue and apply it to characters that would have fit the others, so I pass this because it is solveable.

North star is often used for directional purposes, buuut, he has found one way better than mom.
Cormac is in possession of a golden compass, which is traditionally used for navigation.
PASS -- stars and finding your way were a big signal to me about navigation and made me think of compass, sea-themed characters or related magic instantly.
"Mum" was also used to hint at his Irish Sport Horse breed.
FAIL -- my first response to this was huh? It's too vague to point to the breed.
