Something wasn't quite as it should. A heavy frown drew deep lines around the nostrils and eyes of the silver-coated stallion as he plowed through the deep snows of the Meadow. The course was set towards the west and home as he returned from the Deep Forest, in foul mood and with too many things to consider, but the pace was slow - almost lazy, and he had to admit that he was dragging his feet behind him. Far away to the left the little dragon was doing her best to track down a hare that had been unwise enough to leave its burrow without checking the sky, though aside from a faint mental finger pressed gently against Fajira's mind he let her be, too consumed with his own musings to pay her much heed.

The problem was that it was winter. In such a cold and snow-swept landscape where the sun only lit a bare quarter of the day there was no room for warmth. It was very strange for him to feel like he did; hot, burning, as if something fiery and liquid seared his veins and raised the temperature of his skin. Lace had believed his unusual warmth to be nothing but the work of a thick wintercoat, but since when did fur make him hot enough to melt the snow if he stood still in one place for too long? Something was definitely wrong, and he would bet his tail that it had to do with magic. Bloody stinking magic that wouldn't leave him alone! A sharp flick of a tail expressed his annoyance over it, this mysterious force that apparently resided in his blood. Either that, or the gods were toying with him - neither options were very pleasant.

Now, the issue wasn't so much that he left a trail of sodden ground behind him where his feet had melted the snow and almost thawed the ground. No, it was more the raging, black hatred that lured somewhere in the back of his mind. It had come over him so suddenly that he'd been about to jump Huyana before he realized it was her, and the entire time on his way out of the forest he had felt as though he was followed. Branches had whipped his skin, roots risen to form dangerous traps... and one time he could have sworn that something pulled at his tail. Fajira had simply laughed and called him a sissy and Lace wished she was right... But if, just say if something was messing up his control over these dangerous powers? What would happen then once he came back home and began to mingle with the herd, filled with friends, foals and trees... The mere thought made the glazier shudder.

Continuing to mull over the more resent addition in his mystical arsenal, this peculiar heat that he'd never experienced before, the equine took to following the slithering path of the frozen river as it cut its way across the grassland. Taking his time to scrape off snow from the ground every once in a while, he slowly filled his stomach and tried to enjoy this first time outside the borders in such a long time. It was biting cold with a scent of snow blowing down from the north, but despite the chill it was quite a pleasant day. It didn't look like any greater storm was coming anytime soon, and as a pale winter sun peeked through the blanket of clouds on its way down it illuminated the snow, turning the world into a sparkling marvel of crystal and light.
