The sound of crunching snow pulling steadily closer drew the attention of the grazing stallion. Noticing the approach of the young foal he didn't pay any heed but simply watched and listened, a black-rimmed ear locked steadily onto the small figure. It was a strange thing how he always seemed to attract lone kids. Whenever they had slipped off to make mischief it was always him who stumbled across them, and him who had to face the wrath of eventual parents. From Soleil and Crane to Hototo, Israfel and Ahriman, and now this youngster... Maybe he should give up on the career as glazier and start a nursery instead.

First when the boy addressed him did the silver-coated soldier raise his head, massive teeth grinding the dry grass thoughtfully as he regarded the tiny dark colt through amber eyes. Swallowing, he offered a slight smile that was only a little bit crooked. Ah, youth. He still remembered how it felt, being so brazen and having so little manners.
"Why would I hurt a foal like you? Relax, boy, you're not in any danger. Although, to make perfectly sure I suggest you learn how to use your words more wisely. Customs dictate that one should introduce oneself before asking for the identity of others."

Pausing for a moment the large stud ticked his ear in the direction of Fajira despite her being well out of earshot. He'd felt a surge of triumph rush through the bond, signifying that her hunt at last had been successful. Good. This meant she would stop complaining about her empty stomach. Silken white strands swished against sooted legs, and without letting pass that his thoughts for a moment had strayed Lace turned the gaze back to the colt. Taking in his features properly for the first time, it wasn't until now that the equine reflected on the appearance of the young adventurer. The colors of his coat were intriguing, dyed in black and red in a way that immediately drew attention to himself. He threatened to grow into a big and rather handsome stallion one day, but for now there was only so much charm to find within the lanky foal.

What piqued the glaziers interest however was the budding horn that protruded from the center of the little forehead, already twisting and turning a good few inches into the air. A unicorn. Red and black and blue-eyed... He almost reminded of Faelene, a thought that sent a sharp pang of longing and regret through his chest. Maybe this was her child, Lace wouldn't know. There were unicorns spread across the entirety of Helovia; there was nothing to suggest that this particular one came from the Basin of all places.

"In any case..." he continued, aware that the silence had become more drawn out than intended. "My name is Lace, bonded to Fajira. And who might you be?"
