d'Artagnan was quite peacefully dozing by the side of the sparkling lake when paws fell over paws and Aramis quite spectacularly ducked head first into the pool, splashing ice cold water as he did so and startling the shade from his colourful day dreaming. For a moment, the Time Mender blinked out at the landscape around him, squinting as the sun rose to another day before his sight finally adjusting and he threw a gaze like daggers at the hell dog. A drop of water slowly trickling down his annoyed face. The pup, tail between his legs, inched out of the pool and sat by his bonded's hooves, face cast downward as he pined an apology. d'Artagnan shook his damp mane and snorted, choosing to say nothing and forgiving the hound for now. Something else had caught his attention. Against the morning light, the Doctor saw the shadows of two enter the Basin down the narrow path, one was large and quite familiar. The other he didn't recognize, though it was hard to tell from such a distance. "Aramis! Scout on ahead, I'll follow" bad behaviour forgotten, the dark pup bounded off at a speedy lope, long pink tongue rolled out to one side. d'Artagnan followed at a brisk canter.
It wasn't too long into their speedy mission that d'Artagnan caught Mauja's strange summons on the air and he frowned in slight confusion, confirming to himself that it was the Frostheart he had seen navigating the narrow path. It also made the question of his fellow traveller much more interesting. Just what was Mauja up to? Claws dug into the snowy surface and the ebony cur bolted sharply to his right, sprinting towards the two forms that stood atop a slope with his hoofed bonded carefully following behind. It was then the fur sprang up along Aramis's spine as gilded eyes locked onto the hornless chicken vermin, a ferocious growl ripping from dark lips as swirled markings sprang to life in hues of violent red. The pup screeched to a halt near Mauja's feathered feet, waiting for his bonded to catch up and the words of command to be spoken so he could rip into the winged mare's throat.
A clattering of hooves sounded the arrival of d'Artagnan, ears flattening at the pegasus as grey lips parted to bellow at his best friend. "MAUJA!" He'd not seen the wallowing Lord since they'd got pissed after the herd meeting. What a marvelous night that was! Walking now, he turned himself round and moved to stand next to his Lord who would receive a friendly shoulder bump if he did not move. "Are you still drunk?! Why are you bringing a rat into the Basin?" He demanded quite sharply, eying her with suspicion as he tried to come up with a reason for the spotted stud to bring her here. To the cold and bleak Basin. Was she another prisoner? Was he not privy to some idiotic plan he'd conjured up? Or was she an addition to his growing harem of mares? Surely he wouldn't want to breed off that. d'Artagnan snorted, head held high in disgust at her presence, but he said no more and waited for Mauja to explain himself.
