It’s that though we learn from our mistakes we’re condemned,
To make those same mistakes
again and again.

She was wondering where the day had gone. The ivory mare was frozen, fear pounding through her entire body. The sun was missing, the one thing the reminded her that there was a brightness in everyone. The presence of the sun was enough to make her relax in the most dangerous of situations, think clearly and accept everyone for who they where. Her mind was as blank as her eyes, which were staring up the sky. She heard the sound of a twig snapping causing her to immediately change the direction of her stare. A snow hare leapt out in front of her, barely even glancing her way, it continued bouncing away into the darkness where it was swallowed whole. Her breaths where at least even and slow, but she was like a frightened doe, trapped in her own body. Somewhere, there had to be light, someone would come along and lead her, show her the way to safety. Or maybe she was trapped in some horrid dream.

What she wouldn't give right now to use her magic and wipe this all from her mind, bad dreams shouldn't be made to stick with you. Of course that option wasn't available to her, she couldn't hypnotise herself. As usual, when ever her mind reached the topic of magic, she would awaken it within her and smile smugly at the memory of the time she stole the rat's memories from him. The traitor. While she realised, in her current moment of panic, she would not be feeling smug, she still needed to feel her magic. Closing her startled eyes she breathed in deeply and tried to wake her power up. A frown creased her forehead as nothing happened. It was gone the part of her soul, that had been with her only a short time was completely gone. "My magic is missing. It's gone." She whispered to herself, eyes squeezed tight and mind blank Arah stood frozen, unable to move or think. A entire part of her missing.

She needed someone to explain what the hell was going on. She knew that this was no longer a dream, even in her dreams she had the gift of magic. She breathed in deeply, then opened her trademark golden eyes to the world. Like she was in immense pain, she moved slowly, movements jerky and stiff. She had to be strong though, push through her fear and worry. In many ways she was a solider of The Basin, if another one of her herd mates needed or wanted assistance she should be able to help them. Who knew what had happened when others realised that the sun was not to rise? Surely she was not the only panicked doe running around. The impersonator had turned and began to walking towards what she hoped was the caves. Her first thought was to check on her friends, see if they were still inside their homes and safe from the black night.

At every sound that rang out into the night, the mare froze and turned to where the sound had come from. Her eyes had mostly adjusted, she was able to make out shapes and the outlines of figures. Her vision stopped less than a metre in front of her. She was careful, but still tripped over hidden objects on the ground. One tree root in particular snagged on her mane. While she quickly realised and muttered a curse, frustration burned through her. Gently she began to tug at her hair, loosening it a little more each time. It was slow work, but eventually her hair came free. With tears of frustration, anger and fear brimming her eyes she continued on her way. Was this the end of the world? Was the blackness eventually going to consume them all? A sigh tumbled from her lips, as her eyes grouped around for something to settle on.

Surprised at how calm she was, Arah paused for a moment, surrounded by the deathly night. Yes, she was scared witless for herself and her family, frustrated with the gods and doubting that this was ever going to end, Arah was still fighting on. Her eyes flickered around...then she spotted something in the distance. It was a little circle of light. Aware that this might be a trick she stayed back, watching it dance around.
