"d'Artagnan the Nightshade, their head healer" a grim voice cut in before the twins had a chance to reply. On quiet hooves the shape of a gold-backed stallion appeared from the gleaming mists, a gray shadow balancing a small dragon with bulging stomach on the back with practiced ease. "According to Aaron who saw the murder take place through the eyes of his bonded. I see no reason to doubt the truth of the matter." The silvery neck arched gracefully in a respectful greeting to Madyrn and Maskan as he came to join them, halting next to the golden pegasus as a faint smile cracked the mask of grim seriousness for a moment.

"Welcome back, Sage. It's good to see you again." A soft chirrup mixed with his calm voice as Fajira raised her head from its place on the gilded croup to greet the former - and maybe future - WingLead. The attention offered to the golden dove was short however and the dragon soon turned away again, returning back to her after-meal nap. Lace leaned a shoulder against a nearby tree and shifted the weight between large hooves to make himself comfortable, allowing gilded eyes to move between the warriors, half relieved and half envious that he no longer was counted as one of them.

"You might find it interesting to know that the crafters have begun projecting on a wall to increase the defenses of the Edge" he continued, helping to fill the homecoming general in on the recent developments of the herd. "With magic gone there's not much we can do at the moment, but as soon as the gods return I'm sure the work will be underway." Whether he was going to be a part of the construction was uncertain however. While Lace didn't particularly mind his work, the constant use of magic it forced upon him was growing increasingly uncomfortable. Never a great fan of the arcane powers, he found himself much preferring the state the world was in now; dependent on wit and physical strength, with few if any surprises to find that wasn't easy to solve. No, better leave it to those who actually liked magic; he could be of use elsewhere, in ways that didn't force him to spend quite as much time in the herdland.

"You've certainly come back at a good time" The grullo stallion sighed after a short pause, and lowered the head to scratch the side of the face against a dark leg. "What are you planning to do now? Mirage has made clear that we aren't allowed to stir up any trouble with the Basiners..." An order Lace would have been tempted to ignore if it had come from anyone else. But between budding emotions and the very real fact of the queen possessing the shape of a dragon, he wasn't about to go breaking her rules without a very good reason - or maybe a death wish.
