 It got so quiet that I wasn’t sure she was going to answer favorably, or perhaps even at all. The girl cast her eyes aside, studying the unnatural illumination and distant trees. Lord only knew what went on in a child’s conjuring, but I had to guess that she was weighing options with careful character. Stay or go? Linger along this darklite trail, or go with a stranger?
