Sacre
The night is bleeding like a cut
It was quiet perhaps only for the whistling wind and the odd crunch of snow from hardy animals who dared bare the brunt of winters snapping fangs. The desolate frozen wastes were much like they always were minus the dancing lights and the moon's luminous glare. When the earths light had first fallen, young Sacre had feared many things, his tender mind running wild with fantasies of bloody monsters and falling stars. He even considered that he might have gone blind like his brother and for a few days had resigned himself to this fate, puffing out his chest and firming his gaze. If Roux could handle this then so could he. However, a few days later his father, who was rather amused by his son's conclusion over the matter, quite casually announced that the world was indeed in darkness and that he need not worry. That was all well and good, but Sacre often found himself falling into a drift or two and trying to remember where his families cave was indeed another challenge in itself. All in all the colt decided he did not like this endless night, but he put up with it the best he could, like the solid lad he was.

It was another dark day, not knowing quite if it was morning or evening, that Sacre had found a safe patch on the Steppe, not too far from the Basin. Daring himself to go further at the same time fearing getting stuck in a snowy drift and being left to die slowly in the cold. He shuddered at the thought and hesitated for a while. The boy wanted to go out, visit the Thistle Meadow where he was born and met a hornless stallion, Mr Lace, one time. He wanted to find other places he'd never been before, but Aramis wasn't here and he feared getting lost in the mountains, his fear outweighing his curiosity for now. So the boy stayed close to home, wishing for the sun to return and his legs to grow longer. Silently wondering if he would grow as tall as daddy or stay short like mummy. Sacre rather liked the idea of growing tall and imposing, handsome and brave, his name known throughout the land. Slay monsters and save his princess, a fantasy he would laugh at in the future.

That was his childish dream.

On the other hand, he could not forget his purpose. The reason he was born alongside Roux was to guide and ultimately save him, restore his eyes and create a world where no one could hurt him. Sacre had a rather vague view of what he wanted, what he was here for, and as he got older with each passing day, the more his resolve became stronger. He would be the prince in shining armour who saved his brother and found his princess. Innocent of the cruelties of the world all he could see was that perfect life before him. His name etched in history.

The boys mind continued to drift, his coat as black as the world around him marred only by red that stained his inky fur, mane spiked and a stump for a tail. He was too young to understand the troubles the world before him now faced, too caught up by his own fantasies to even contemplate a reason why.
