It was hard to believe that her pack had once been great. Now, in the aftermath, it was reduced to her and her pup who was barely old enough to open its eyes. She had traveled far carrying the tiny pup in her jaws. She had left a trail of blood behind her and if she followed it it would lead her back to where her pack lay decimated, torn to shreads by something they hadn't been able to defend themselves against. The female wanted to call it a bear, it had claws like one but with all the creatures that made Helovia their home she would never know for sure.

The mother stumbled, dropped her pup on the ground. It yelped, whimpered, tried to stand and search her out. She stared down at the pup, willing herself to have the energy to pick it back up and continue to run. Or had she been walking? She lowered her head to pick the pup up but only managed a to touch her nose to it's soft pelt. Finally the mother lowered herself to lay, curling herself protectively against the last of her children. Tears stung her eyes as she came to the realization that her child would never make it, not without someone to care for it.

In a last ditch effort she raised her head and howled weakly, hoping desperately that someone would come. Someone that she could trust to raise her child for her. As her howl came to an end she let her head drop to the ground and she waited. The thick smell of blood had been something she'd been able to ignore while on the run, but now that she was stuck where she was, laying there bleeding, it was overwhelming and a constant reminder that she didn't have much longer left.
