Shadow
and who shall I say
is calling?
Perhaps the dark mare that slipped inside the partially finished walls would have gone unnoticed, but there was no mistaking the arrival of unwanted guests as a big bay loudly declared ownership over the lands. The shadow made a soundless snort from her perch upon the metal construction, quietly rolling her eyes. They would just have to see about that, now wouldn't they. The raven wasn't about to give up her new home without a fight, and neither would any of the Tuuli - that much she had learned over the season she had spent in this herd.
It had been a restless wait ever since the news of the invasion of their allies reached them. The little shade had barely slept, too busy moving between warriors guarding the borders collecting any scrap of information she could get, constantly watching and waiting just in case something might happen. She was worried, she couldn't deny that. Many had traveled north to aid their friends, leaving the defenses depleted and thinned out. Even Shadow herself had been taking on patrol duties to fill in the gaps, anxiously waiting for news of World's Edge, of Kri, of Midas... and of Hector. She feared for them, knowing that nothing she said would keep them from flying head first into the battles... It was what they did, their duty as leaders and generals of Dragon's Throat.
She wished more than ever that she had received news about them now as she spied upon the horned intruder from the safety of the wall. What should she do, should she attack or try to talk the mare out of leaving, what? The blackbird seriously doubted her own ability to drive the unicorn out of the desert, she wasn't a trained warrior and had only ever sparred with Hector - something that had been closer to a play fight than actual combat. Violet eyes followed the regal mare as she slipped through the darkness, appearing uncomfortable as the light from the distant fire erased her cover and sent shadows dancing about the cloven hooves. Furry ears folded backwards as the intruder seemed intent on continuing further into the land, and with all the stealth she could muster the slight pegasus slipped off the edge of the wall and spread her wings wide, mimicking the soundless flight of an owl as she took to the sky.
Skuggi blended in perfectly with the gloom of the clouded sky. A shadow among shadows, her wings rose and fell without making a sound as she gained height above and behind the horned lady. Uncaring whether she'd been spotted or not the Informant angled herself towards the ground once she had reached a height of about thirty feet, thrust the wings tightly to the sides and fell into a steep dive, front hooves stretched out wide and aiming for the center of the others back.
It was how she had been taught to handle predators. One swift, hard blow to the spine and they would be no threat anymore, and should they still be alive after that then all it took was a hard kick at the head to end the suffering. Whether it would work on another horse she didn't know. The thought of actually killing a talking, thinking being was nauseating and horrible, but did she have a choice? They were the ones who had come uninvited and tried to take over her home, it would be the lady's own fault.. Right?
Filled with doubt over what she was doing, Shadow waited until the moment just before her hooves should make contact with dark flesh and unfurled the wings with a snap, halting her descent with a jerk. Immediately the large appendages began to work once more, bringing her back up into the air; both rear hooves lashed downwards, hoping to dig into the rump of the mare and bruise the hip, the spine, whatever she could reach before she was up again, hopefully beyond reach of that long, sharp-looking horn.
