"Where brilliance is good and madness is better..."
Helovia Info
Helovia opened in February 2012! We are an active fantasy equine RPG
Where once the world narrowed into naught but gray dust and desolation, the gods called for life. Wielding the elements of fire and light, dark and wind, earth and water, spark and time, they have created Helovia. The realm is set within the mythical globe of Loorien, a planet rich with all variety of creatures and blessed with all manner of magic. Originally populated by nomadic, tribal characters, they've since grown into massive empires saturated with culture and history. Separated into four distinct segments of Helovia, called "The Regions," each band of horse strong enough and capable enough, took up the power and responsibility of leadership. Unicorns, old, wise and mysterious, took to the north, hidden in forests of mists and shadows and rarely making themselves known beyond their cliffs of the World's Edge. Equines, vast, organized and militaristic, split into two, one group went north to the Windtossed Foothills and the other group went south to the Dragon's Throat. Pegasus remained nomadic, making their homes in various parts of The Wilds in a migratory manner. For many generations, the land was peaceful and calm, but peace was never the way of the gods. With a clash of argument, war and bloodshed massacred Helovia, and in the aftermath, the realm was eerily quiet. Now, as newcomers sweep into this land, they are met with the lingering bitterness of the gods and the struggle to reclaim what was lost. Nothing remains safe or certain while sorcerers and soldiers alike brood and bide their time for revenge, honor and glory.

ORANGEMOON cools off the lands with a a viscious force. Colder than normal, a sign of things to come during Frostfall, Helovia is bathed in a rich tropical lushness - albiet a cold one. The coastlines of the Dragon's Throat are pelted constantly by tidal waves, and the desert climate is humid but chilly. Ice begins to form early in the Aurora Basin leaving the winding trails slick and dangerous. The mists of the World's Edge coat everything in a glistening crystalline shine which encourages mould to grow everywhere. The Spectral Marsh is the only area which remains fertile, blissfully temperature and lush.

Character of the Month for
June, 2017
WEAVER, Corporal of the Aurora Basin, is a relatively recent addition to Helovia and has taken it by storm. Branded with the seal of Death on her chest, intrigue and interest follow both her past and present. Though she is assuredly beautiful, her sometimes sharp personality reveals that there is more to this uni-peg hybrid than meets the eye. Proving herself able on the battlefield in the Basin’s warrior ranks, we can’t wait to see her test her mettle against the looming Kaos happenings! Congratulations!

GAUCHO
And I'd bring you further roses but it does you no good
Unsurprisingly, the Sun God had been right. Of course he had, but it had been important that Gaucho learn this particular lesson. Gaucho had never meant to isolate his herd. Never once had that been his intention; his mind had been focused solely on their protection. Hiding them away from the world while he trained and cultivated their minds to understand the dangers Helovia offered.
But that was before. Gaucho who had never had his senses handicapped in the way the God's quest entailed never knew just how reliant he was upon them. No hearing the voices of others? Pssh. Easy. Gaucho wasn't one for talking anyway. How hard could it be? But it was. He didn't realize how much he missed conversation with his herd, not to mention the great inconvenience it posed. No touching others? That was just bizarre. To know that they were there but to pass by them like a ghost, unable to feel their warmth, their textures, their bodies ? By far however had been the transition to losing his sight. Oh sure, he could see the landscape, but it appeared entirely uninhabited by anyone. Never before had Gaucho felt so isolated. Knowing that others were there was no conciliation when all of his senses screamed that he was in some mad dream all alone. He took for granted all that he had - just like he took for granted having wings. He proposed to isolate his herd - just as the Sun God said - with only realistically minor consideration given to those in his herd who couldn't fly. Boats. HAH. Of course boats would sound like a good idea to one who would never have to use them. Gaucho couldn't realize just how foolish he had been, to think that he understood what it was to be handicapped in a way that your family wasn't. Gaucho had never been weak, small, or powerless. What did he know about discrimination? Oh sure language was still quite an obstacle for him, but it was something he could work on.
Could Rasta work on being able to see? Could Tavi work on being able to fly? Perhaps in some weak sense they could. The Gods had been merciful to them in the past; it wasn't out of the question. But it was an obstacle of theirs that Gaucho (previously) had never experienced himself.
He had been so foolish, and it had taken the omniscient light of the Sun to show him the error of his ways.
Landing gently amongst the cherry blossoms at high noon, Gaucho dropped to his barred knees. This is where he had called the Sun God down before, and it was here that he would pray for his forgiveness and understanding. The God had shown him the error of his ways, and he was thankful that he had.
Gaucho's pierced nose touched the firm earth as his flaming wings stretched outwards from his sides, falling upon the earth. As the sun's warm light shone down from the cloudless sky, Gaucho closed his stormy gaze, filling his thoughts with the light of the Sun.
Quest turn in!
** The last part of Gaucho's quest says the he must remain 'blind' for one thread after the landbridge is being blown up. However he is going to ask Sunny not to destroy the bridge until the Throat quest is complete (obviously!). Which would mean he will remain blind until the Throat's quest is done too then! This is totally okay with me. More punishment for his stupid boats idea :P **
OOC| Gaucho’s quest is as follows:
1. Collect oil residues from beneath the sands of the endless blue. While doing this, and for any threads started between parts 1 and 2, he cannot hear what anyone says. [Oil and Water]
2. Spread the oil residue along the land bridge. While doing this he cannot feel any touch. [Collecting from BABY DADDY]
3. Before the land bridge can be destroyed, he must complete two threads where he cannot see any living creatures (but still can see landscape, hear everything, feel everything, etc.). This effect will continue for one thread after the land bridge is destroyed. [Everyone's an asshole and Evening Stars]
Other threads that occurred/were affected by his quest (if needed):
Part I - Gather Oil - Loses ability to hear the voices of others (including Mara)
> Oil and Water; Goes to find oil with Cera.
> I CAN'T HEAR YOU; Patrols with Spice and Oberon even though he can't hear.
Part II - Place oil on the land bridge - Loses the ability to feel the touch of others
> Collecting from BABY DADDY; Spreads the oil onto the bridge while Arvakl yells at Bucephalus.
> This'll burn; Places the other bucket of oil farther in the Throat for the festival
> Kaleadescope of loud; Decides to test out his sparring skills during this phase of his quest. Spars with Panzram on the Island.
> His Valiant Return; After his spar, he finds the Giving Turtle and receives a gift!
> I need you now; Speaks with Zenobia
Part III - Wait? -- For 2 threads Gaucho loses the ability to see those around him
The Sun God came, ever watchful of his land’s lord. He had been watching Gaucho through his trials, monitoring him through his sensory deprivation, and enjoying the way the primitive beast seemed to learn from every encounter he had gone through. In particular, he enjoyed it because he knew the beast’s capacity for learning. To others he seemed slow as his thick tongue struggled over the nimble Helovian language, but to the Sun God he was a willing mind ready to better himself. Perhaps most impressive was that he was willing to better himself for the sake of others, as well as for his own sake. The Sun God, who was not impressed by most, was surely impressed by the Wildfire.
Of course, his unending devotion didn’t hurt.
Blooming as tendrils of flame from the Wildfire’s fiery wings, the Sun God’s form started from the hooves and built itself up, the burning fingers becoming a cohesive form. For a few seconds, the Sun God’s body was one made entirely of flame. A horse, but a horse of fire, much like the creatures that Gaucho could call from his antlers. Then the flame solidified- he was a phoenix born from Gaucho’s wings. Of course, such an impressive display was only worth it if the Wildfire could see others around him. For this meeting, he would be allowed sight.
“So,” he began abruptly, of course knowing what the Wildfire desired his presence for. “Do you still desire to destroy my land?” Judging eyes, but a knowing smile, waited on his face. There was no anger in his voice, only curiosity. He wanted to hear Gaucho say what he had learned. The mortals seemed to understand their actions so much more when they put them to voice.

And I'd bring you further roses but it does you no good
Light pours over Gaucho's darkened body, and for a moment the Wildfire selfishly wishes simply to remain with his head down like this forever. For the first time in a long time he feels as though he could sleep - that he could sink into a deep refreshing coma for perhaps a full hour. However he would not be so selfish, no matter how deeply sleep and exhaustion tried to dissuade him of his choice. He was tired yes, perhaps unusually so, but there was still much work to do.
And Gaucho wouldn't be caught showing weakness before his patron saint and God.
Raising his antlered skull the dun rose.
Black ears flickered to catch the question as the God disappeared. Before when he was merely composed of fire Gaucho could see him, but as he took normal shape he paled from Gaucho's vision. Mara's borrowed gaze paled in comparison with seeing the God for himself, but Gaucho wouldn't complain.
"No." He began, closing his stormy gaze to consolidate his thoughts. The dun had never realized just how stupid his previous suggestion had been. If not for the God's omniscience Gaucho might have ruined everything. And yet in his benevolence the God had listened to Gaucho's stupidity: blowing up the bridge and implementing boats. Had he simply said no of course Gaucho would have listened, but never would he have learned this valuable lesson. He did not want to restrict the access of his herd, nor did he want to destroy anything the Sun God had created. He understood that now, and he was eternally grateful that the God had given him the opportunity to see it for himself.
Still there was something Gaucho found uncertain about the God's question. Did he still see Gaucho's request as destruction? The dun had always viewed the land bridge... as a path. Not a fundamental part of the Throat - a construction of the Earth God's. The heart of the Throat, that was certainly the domain of his sun king. But the bridge? Gaucho fumbled for the words. It was a weak point to be sure, strategically Gaucho saw great benefit in eliminating the strip of land. But if the Sun God deemed it part of his lands, rather than a means of reaching them, then Gaucho was less sure. Further, if the dun were to suggest that it be merely upgraded, for a magical bridge was certainly better than a physical one, wouldn't he also be suggesting that the God had failed to create the best land possible in the first place?
It seemed like a dilemma. Either destroy something that belonged to the God, or call into question the God's engineering forethought.
"Gaucho think ... Gaucho want to do what is best for herd. For family. For Sun God. Gaucho not have enough warriors to protect Throat. Gaucho talk to Ophelia - make truce between herds while Gaucho train's warriors. Maybe peace will last, maybe not. But there are outcasts. It in our nature to take and conquer." He began, thinking of Ophelia's words to him and her abbreviated history lesson. "Gaucho only do what is needed to keep Throat. Gaucho not want to destroy. Gaucho want to reconstruct." Silently he thanked Mara for the word choice. Reconstruct. That was what he wanted to do precisely! Nothing would be destroyed merely changed.
"Throat almost done quest." He offered before falling silent.
Bowing his head, the dun waited forever at the mercy of the God.

The GOD of the SUN
Burn the whole world down
Omniscient though he may be, the Sun God often finds that his pride and ire complicate his judgments. He has been so fixated on the idea that Gaucho wishes to take from him that he has forgotten the true intentions behind the behemoth’s quest. Even gods can be wrong sometimes, it seems, though he will never admit it. Instead, the god’s body began to rumble- a laughter that came from his soul and the sun and gaucho’s fire all at once. A laugh from everywhere, and nowhere at all. A laugh not directed towards Gaucho, but at the way he had tip-toed around and found the word he had been searching for. Reconstruct.
So many things had been reconstructed. Time and time again, Loorien and Helovia had shown the gods and mortals what was worthy and what was not- what needed to be altered, changed, reconstructed. If the land bridge was not working, if it was not protecting his land the way it needed to, then it would be changed. And when the magic portal no longer worked, it would be changed as well. Even the gods changed. His brother Time made sure of that.
“Good. Go, my son. Reign destruction. Reconstruct.” Turning back to a stallion of flame, so that Gaucho might see him, the Sun God returned to Gaucho the way he had come- as tendrils of flame that joined into his wings of fire. The difference this time was as he entered Gaucho, he also infused the stallion with his power. When Gaucho stood before the land bridge, his flapping wings would now hold the power to erase the land with fire. The Throat would be protected from any without wings. Reconstruction and rebirth- a way of life.
Interestingly, as the Sun God entered Gaucho, he also provided one other piece of advice. “Perhaps you and Mara could use another set of eyes to help you in your endeavors.” A flame seemed to burn within Gaucho, on his very heart, for a moment. A tattoo of the God's affection, or something more?
Congratulations! Gaucho has been granted the one-time ability to blow up the land bridge connecting Helovia to the Throat. Gaucho has also been gifted an extra companion slot. Congratulations!

And I'd bring you further roses but it does you no good
Some might have described it as a wave crashing down, filling him with relief and joy. Others, a gentle rain heralding praise and acceptance. But to Gaucho it was neither of those. The God's words descended upon him like a hurricane of fire, smothering and burning. Gaucho was filled by the fuel of his Lord's words, rejuvenated and refreshed.
His gaze rose, seeing the God now, completely ablaze. Pride resonated within the Wildfire's blue-striped chest to look upon his deity such as he was. A wry grin parted his lips as he nodded in agreement.
He would destroy, and then they would rebuild. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes - brighter and better than before.
As the Lord's flamed settled upon and merge with his own, Gaucho felt a peculiar rummaging in his heart and soul. Almost as if an opening had been created, waiting to be filled. The dun shivered, black ears taking in the God's final words before the fires once again became his own.
Another set of eyes? Did that mean his sight would be returned sooner than he thought? No ... such a thing wouldn't have imprinted his soul ...
But what did it mean?
"Praise the Sun" The dun whispered, rising and turning. His stormy gaze surveyed a landscape free of distractions and other souls. Inhaling deeply, the Wildfire released a victory cry from his dark lips. All he needed was for his family to do their part.
