Okay, so this was getting a bit ridiculous. Feritas thought as he tramped through water that rose up to the middle of his cannon bone. He snorted at the strange sensation, the colt was getting used to all sorts of things, exploring without his mother around was the best thing EVER. For the first time in a long time, he could do exactly as he pleased, and sure there had been a few close calls with predators, but he could run pretty fast and had yet to get caught.

The bronze dun shook out his short mane and bent down to drink some of the water around his hooves. His stomach ached, grumbling at him in it's complaints for milk. He sighed and turned his head to glance at his own barrel, nipping at it impatiently. "Yes, thank you. i am thoroughly aware that I am hungry and that I need to find a suitable mother to nurse off of soon. You know, you could just learn to deal with the grass I find." The young colt straightened his neck out and let his ears flop around so that he could take it the surrounding sounds of the swamp.

he was always hungry these days. He knew he was doing himself a disservice by going off on his own like this but he had not thought that searching for a new mother would take so long. Feritas snorted again, his breath causing the waters surface to ripple a second time. It was thanks to his concentration that he saw it.

The ripples surrounding a Water Moccasin as it slithered through the water towards him. Snorting again, he reared back and struck at the snake's head with his hoof. He felt the snake's skull catch under his hoof and the resulting crunch as it was crushed by his weight. He proceeded to trample the thing with loud splashes until he was sure it was dead and the water around his hooves was stained red with the snake's blood.

"Hmph! So there!" He nickered at the prone form of the snake's body now floating lifelessly in the water. Still, he wondered how many other snakes were nearby and instead of trying to find out, vacated the area quickly. He got to dry land and checked the bushes and tall grass for any other dangers he should know about before he laid down in a patch of grass and lowered his head to his folded knees. Rolling onto his side, the foal fell into a doze.

The scent of blood in the air drew them like sharks. Thick mud sucked at hooves and paws as the duo strode through the swamp, both bloodthirsty predators searching for the source of the smell that made their mouths water with anticipation. It was with great disappointment that the mare and the cougar found the smashed up body of a snake. Histe stared down at the thin reptile with disdain that was echoed in the cougar's gaze. This was not what they wanted nor what they were expecting. Whoever had killed the snake had sparked a lust in the pair that would only be satisfied with a meal that would leave them bloated and tired.

"There's another." Merikh growled as he sniffed the air. "Horse. Young." The tip of his tail flicked back and forth as he looked toward the mare that he shared a mental bond with. He could feel a spark of excitement in her that made him growl and extend his claws so the scraped against the muddy ground. "Well then, Merikh." The mare answered. "Lets give it a proper welcome." They only had to find it, but with Merikh's nose and knack for hunting it would be easy.

The cougar started forward and Histe watched him as he left the muddy ground in favor of a more stable terrain. He crouched low to the ground, making no noise as he crept through the brush, disappearing from Histe's view. "Here." His voice came moments later. "Unicorn. Sleeping. Easy kill." Histe giggled to herself and lowered her head, grabbing the dead snake in her mouth before following after Merikh.

She was less quiet as she moved through the brush, but she soon saw the foal dozing. Foals were too easy. With a toss of her head, Histe sent the dead snake flying in the foal's direction. "Go for it." She said mentally, smiling to herself as the cougar screamed. She was willing to bet that the foal would piss all over himself.

Feritas had long since realized that fully falling asleep was a fools mistake. He would not let himself do more than doze off after he'd made that discovery. As such, he was not fully asleep when the cougar approached him, and his mind sharpened when he felt the vibrations of the cougars paw steps, growing even more alert when the heavier hoof beats reached his ears. What caused him to finally move, however, was the scream. It did not startle him, since he knew the beast was there, but it did hurt being so loud and so close. He flattened his dusty ears in irritation and blinked open his vibrant cyan eyes. He glared at the cougar without moving a muscle. It was as if he were silently skinning the cougar alive with his rage at the attempt of deafening him and waking him up in such a manner.

His eyes focused on the face of the mare that had tossed the snake onto his shoulder. The mangled body lay across his barrel now. Snorting, he rolled to sit upright and get a proper look at the pair of them. She smelled faintly of gore and it was a perfume that... did things to him. Things that weren't unpleasant. She was brindled just as much as he was and he saw she was a bay- another thing they had in common, even though he was a bronze dun. He knew it was diluting a bay color- he would have probably been the same as her had he not inherited the gene. He let out a breath and looked away from her and her pet in an irritated manner.

"Who do you think you are, waking me up like that? Apologize!" He demanded as he snapped back to glaring at her. The last word was spat with a confident force that was either foolish or fearless, or both. He got to his hooves just as his stomach began to rumble again. He paid it no mind this time. It would have to deal with being empty while he scolded this mare for trying to scare him. He bared his teeth, which were still nonexistent. He didn't really care though. What he cared about was making sure she knew her mistake and that she felt remorse for it. If he had to gore her on his horn, so be it. Perhaps it would be the first spill of blood on his conscience.

Of course, he was taking into account the cougar. He would crush that cat's skull beneath his hooves just like he had crushed that snake. He lacked the ability to fear, or maybe he had just never come across real danger before. Either way, he was ready for whatever she brought towards him. "Kneel before a prince, scum." he snorted at her, his eyes boring into her in much the same way as they had bored into her cat. As if his stomach was set out to ruin this image of rage and fearlessness, it gurgled again. He was aware of the hollow ache in his gut, but he tried to push it down once more. He would find some grass later, he promised. That didn't sound appetizing, even to his conscious thoughts. He needed milk. He needed a mother. Preferably one worthy of raising a colt such as him.

He looked this mare up and down, reconsidering his own hostility. Maybe she was the one he had been looking for?

The pair were only mildly disappointed that the foal didn't piss himself and scramble to his feet, terrified by Merikh's scream and the snake on his shoulder. Merikh growled a warning as the foal snapped at him and demanded an apology. "I think I'm capable of ending your very short life." Histe answered, her tone oddly calm considering the manner the foal had spoken to her and Merikh. His gaze snapped back to her and Histe smiled maliciously at the young foal. "I think I'm the one that could make a very quick meal of you." She began to circle slowly around the foal, her pale eyes roving over every inch of his small body. "Tender." "Very tender." The brindle mare agreed with her companion.

"Kneel before a prince, scum."

Histe snaked her head toward the foal and snapped at Feritas' left shoulder. "You are no prince." She sneered. "You're a little shit." She continued to circle around the foal, unsure of how she felt about the little ... thing standing up to her the way he was. She was used to everyone turning tail and running away leaving behind nothing but a trail of piss and dignity.

"What do we do with him?" Merikh asked, feeling just a little impressed by the foal's spunk. Histe turned a critical gaze on the foal, not missing the grumbling of his stomach. "Aww, the baby's hungry." She crooned before breaking into a fit of giggles. "Histe is hungry, too." Her tongue swept over her lips and it seemed like she had made up her mind.

Dinner was served.
