She pushes forward through the night a black beauty winding herself through the trees, the only points of light are two white socks on her powerful hind legs and the lazy flickering of the stars above. Her tail floats behind her on the wind as she canters elegantly through the dark trees and she holds her dark head high with a fierce pride. The mare breathes deeply of the night air trying to clear out her clouded mind, remnants of dream she would rather forget. When the nightmares come, waking her violently out of sleep, she runs trying to leave the demons of her past far behind. The strength and grace of her body guides her through the trees but the flick of panic blurs her edges, claustrophobia gnaws at her mind and she wishes for wide open plains and mountains so large they never get any closer no matter how fast you fly.

Kamria slows to a walk, she really has no idea where she is going and running headlong through the black forest will get her nowhere but lost and then the panic really would set in. She shakes her herself roughly and it helps to clear her head. She turns her gaze to the stars and wonders if they ever gaze back, probably not. At least they kept her sane as long as she could the stars she knew she’d be ok. Kamria looks around; unfamiliar with this new place has no idea where to go. Does this blasted forest ever end?She thinks to herself. The looming faces of the trees press down on her and she angrily pushes back at the memories trying to surface.

Dark, so very dark. Air so foul and stale it invaded everywhere. No escape.

She wished she could forget but certain things had a nasty habit of rusting through no matter how many times you slapped a new coat of paint on. Kamria hoped she would come across someone soon in this unfamiliar place, all she wanted was the earth and stars and nothing between them but her, flying across the land.

A tawny hide passes through the brush, tail sweeping just behind whispering footsteps as she stalks the terrain. Pale eyes narrow in a dark face, probing the woods for something worthy to chase down. There it goes, Colt notes as the girl goes flying past. Those pale eyes trail her in those brief seconds she can catch her, seeking the only things that matter.

Bare back.
Bare head.

A grin stretches on the lips of the lion and she's off on the hunt. Her hoofsteps are sure on this woody terrain. Though she is new her herself, this is the only place she's remained, pacing the hallways of the trees like some caged beast looking for a way out. Are you my way out? she queries after the girl silently, the only sound she makes the steady rhythm of her breath firing out her nares. It doesn't take long for her to catch up to the panicked equine, but she won't be able to hold her speed either, both qualities of her lineage. With a head bob Colt calls out, her voice fast and strong with the exertion of keeping pace.

"Hey!" she greets at first, her voice as warm as she can muster. "What's wrong?" she calls out shortly thereafter, judging that something is indeed wrong based on the mare's wide eyes and breakneck pace, neither of which suggests and exercise routine or a mind-clearing stroll. To be cautious, as always, Ampere throws an ear behind her just in case she's entered a different hunt all together.

She hates to admit it, and would deny it profusely if anyone so much as snorted but Kamria flinched a little at the unexpected call behind her. She turns around to find pale eyes glinting at her from a dark face. The mare’s stare catches her off guard and for a moment she has the strangest feeling of being caught, a gazelle in the claws of the lioness. Kamria blinks and the moment passes, she notices the wariness of the other horse and doesn’t blame her, meeting a stranger in the middle of the night in the forest doesn’t exactly make for a pleasant greeting albeit an interesting one. ‘What’s wrong’ the mare asks, Kamria frowns darkly at herself hating the flaws she had exposed tonight no less to a stranger. There was one rule she had learned the hard way ‘show no weakness ’ and she’d upheld that rule ever since, well until tonight that had all gone to shit. Kamria although surprised and appreciative of the concern from the stranger, politely ignored the question and tried to steer to the conversation elsewhere.

“Oh, hello I’m Kamria, you wouldn’t happen to know which way to…” the black mare began, which way to where exactly? She thinks to herself, she had no idea where she was going or why just getting out of this god damn forest would be a victory.

“Well I really have no idea where I’m going, I’ve never been to these parts before, are you from around here?”

Kamria shivers feeling the trees closing in around her again, why did the nightmares have to come when she was lost in the middle of a forest. She wished she could find some reprieve; they had been getting worse and worse lately, worming their way into her brain clouding her mind. Tendrils of darkness gnawing at the edges, fighting for a way to get deeper and deeper like some sort of parasite. Maybe she just needed some kind of distraction something to keep the demons at bay until she could find a more permanent solution to shutting it all out.

Colt began to slow as the mare ahead of her responded to her arrival, although the sharp-minded lioness certainly picked up on the fact that the stranger dodges her questions without so much as the batt of an eye; something Colt herself was familiar with. She did not press the issues though, since it was mostly a way of greeting and setting up a pretext of friendliness, but it did rouse her paranoid even further. Once more Colt cast a furtive glance over her shoulder, half expecting a pack of wolves barking down their heels.

"Colt," she offered in return for Kamira's name, wondering if the girl would even realize that was in fact a name. Colt mused to herself as Kamira scrabbled for words, searching in her mind like it was some game board to find the correct pieces to play.
Colt thought she'd like this girl more and more.

"You could say that," she responded vaguely and with little emotion coloring her tones, as was her usual method of talk. "This place is Helovia, a land of 4 horse herds and various outcast bands." Colt provided what little information she knew about this place, being rather newly arrived herself and not yet having stepped hoof out of this forest, but that was by choice.

"Are you good at fighting?" Colt asked as an aside after a moment of quiet. Her steel eyes which had dropped to the ground now flicked back up expectantly towards the mare.

Kamria

‘Colt’ the mare supplies, Kamria blinks at the strange name but doesn’t comment, she knows they both have secrets and pasts they’d rather not share, asking one question forces another until there’s no breath left in the lungs. Kamria wasn’t one to start pouring her little heart out, which had been cruelly cut out and torn apart before she even knew what it meant and she guessed the other mare was of the intent of keeping to herself as well. She liked that, thinking along the lines of a possible future friendship. As Colt voices what she knows of the land Kamria realises there may be a place for her yet, a place to take her mind off certain things and find somewhere she could put her skills to good use.

Was she good at fighting? Kamria smiles and the stars reflected in her eyes burn a strange light. Now that was a question she could answer, ever since she was little she’d had a natural flair for the more “violent arts” although Kamria had never seen it that way. It was survival and the only thing that had kept her going, kept her alive all those longs years in the dark was the thought of revenge, of fighting back. Visions of sinking her teeth into warm flesh, feeling bones crack under hooves and watching through fierce triumphant eyes as her enemies fall down before her.

“Yes I am”she replied. Kamria didn’t want to sound cocky but it was one of the few things she was good at and a chance to revel in battle wasn’t something she was going to give up for mere modesty. She shivers again this time in excitement of anticipation and from somewhere very deep within her the nightmares come alive, grinning in the dark.

"Good," Colt responded, sensing an air of confidence in the other mare, or perhaps it was pride. Either way it brought the hint of a smile back to Colt's face. "You'll need to be."

Colt pondered the fact the mare hadn't bothered to ask why Colt wanted to know her military expertise, but then maybe that was for the better, for both of them.
Now came the hard part, goading someone into joining a cause without revealing exactly what that cause was. No wonder Ricochet needs me, hopeless stallion.

Flint struck back upon coal, the hard gaze of Colt pressing upon the sooty girl. Straw floating through the woods, Colt moving on charred limbs, some outwards semblance of her tainted, ruined self. It was all a fire waiting to ignite. "Are you staying or passing through?" Colt asked at last, needing to know if her time was being well spent trying to court some sort of charismatic (is that what this was?) connection between the two of them. "If you're staying, I know of a place you could stay safe."
