The child was smart, the intensity of her gaze and the forward posture of her ears leading the Lady to the assumption that the girl was listening to more than just words. Glad that she had played the part of the caring savior through from the beginning, she elaborated on her friendly exterior with subtle manipulations of her posture and the soft curvature of her lips. Illynx found herself shocked, as to be expected from one expecting the vivacious innocence of a child, when the girl's colorless eyes latched on to her own quite lifelessly, her words cold and passionless despite the seriousness of the situation she spoke of. The golden mynx's smile faltered slightly in the wake of the announcement, though quickly regained itself as the realization that the child truly could be raised into the perfect monster dawned upon the wicked woman.

What would she have wanted an adult to do for her those long years ago, when they discovered the orphaned child standing over the bloody bodies of her family? It was a struggle to return to such a state of innocence and confusion, a moment in her life she usually avoided at all costs - but the bond that could be formed her in the falling twilight of Helovia's greeting forest was too precious to dismiss for her own emotional failings. Reaching back into her memories, she became the shivering little girl again, felt the tears hot and wet running down her face, the life of her mother smeared and sticky on her muzzle. She saw them, those who were supposed to be her herd-mates, black jackals with gleaming, jack-o-lantern eyes and crooked smiles. They had not always been that way; she figured it was better that she could not remember their true faces, for them, at least - the sole reason she did not hunt them down like animals. What had she wanted from them when they still wore faces?

She had wanted someone to love her, to tell her that it would all be alright, even if the child would have known it was a lie.

And so she stepped forward, the bright flames of her eyes unusually dull as she packed away the haunting memories and returned to the moment, hoping her thoughts had not elapsed too much time; she found the child speaking. Illynx's dark nose reached out to brush it's velveteen tip along her shoulder if the child would allow her, the words that fell from the fearful babe's lips touching and sincere. "You are in the nation of Helovia," said the Gilded Blade, fearlessly returning the white eyes of the child, her years in the magically embellished land she had just named providing her all the mental armor she needed against the haunting glow of Jorogumo's gaze, "the land of my birth. I am the Lady Illynx, ruler of the mountain land to the north known as the Aurora Basin." She paused, her smile bright and cheerful as she angled her body towards the Steppe and her home, hoping to draw the girl's gaze out towards the peaks that could just be seen through the treeline as she continued to explain the nature of the land to the babe. "We stand now in the Threshold, place for travelers and the lost. You are a lucky girl indeed to have found this forest of all the others," like the Edge, she concluded bitterly within her mind.
Magic/assault allowed to be used on Illynx at any time, in so far as it does not kill or seriously maim her without my permission.
