Jorogumo

In softest air, a stutter steers the heart away from the bane, leaves lasting sorrows and carries me a new

Jorogumo noted the faltering smile of the mare. Was there more motivating this are other than kindness? It wouldn’t come as a surprise to the spider child, for adults were proving themselves to be untrustworthy. This mare was perhaps no exception, but Jorogumo had her uses for her, she needed to survive so she would let the mare believe she was getting her way. Even if adults were untrustworthy, they had territories, and territories meant protection, which meant survival.

The golden mare came toward Jorogumo, initially the child stepped back, unsure of what her intentions were. Then she felt a brush against her shoulder. She looked at the mare slightly confused, but she couldn’t deny the comforting feeling that came over her. Memories of her mother’s gentle touch flooded her mind, she remembered the last nuzzle and affectionate mane pull she had received from her mother.

The mare’s lack of discomfort at her unsettling gaze made a sense of respect wash over the child. Only her parents had been able to look her directly in the eyes, the few others she had encountered cringed or turned away. This mare was strong, this mare was someone Jorogumo could look up to. Then the golden mare gave a name to the place she had stumbled upon, Helovia. It was a name she had never heard of, nor did it mean anything to her. Was there a reason that her parents left her here? Then the mare proceeded to give her name, Illynx, quite a bizarre name, and it was then that the mare revealed she was a ruler, no she seemed more than that. Kisaki, the filly said under her breath, her fluency in her father’s tongue was lacking, but she knew it well enough.

The forest her mother had left her in was known as the Threshold. A suspicion swelled inside of her, perhaps her Mommy had left her because she knew others would find her. That only showed the inadequacy of a parent, Yuki-Onna was nothing to her now, she was a failure. It was then Jorogumo decided something, unlike her mother she would not be a failure. No, she would be so much more.

“Kisaki,” Jorogumo addressing the mare before her, “I am Jorogumo.” Would Illynx know of the origin of the name? Her name had been given for a reason, Yuki-Onna had a path her child was destined to follow, and Jorogumo was questioning whether it was one she truly wanted to delve down. She suppressed the thoughts of her mother and turned her attention back to her potential savior. “What is your home like?” She asked, hoping the mare would offer to take her with her back to this Aurora Basin. No matter how much Jorogumo desired to, she couldn’t hide the hopeful expression on her face. Though she was intelligent, she was still a child nonetheless.

"blah blah blah."
