Alina
Atop a big, red rock only a few yards from the shoreline the white little dove was perched. Her wings were halfway extended and she stood very still, so very still in fact that she almost looked like a marble statue on top of a rusty pillar. Had it not been for the silky hairs in her mane and tail wavering in the ocean breeze it would have been easy to think that she was not a real mare of flesh and blood. But another clear giveaway was her sparkling emerald eyes that scanned the blue ocean which lay before her with determination and slight fear.

The foaming waves threw themselves lazily against her pillar and sent droplets of salty water towards her pristine white frame. Above her the skies where as blue as could be and the rays of the sun embraced her body and gave her the strength she needed to complete the task she’d given herself.

A few days earlier the girl had arrived at her new home; Dragon’s Thoat, and she already loved it. But her wings were still restless, used to constantly being on the move, and she had decided to explore her surroundings. She had started in her immediate area and today she’d flown south - so far south that she met a big fear of hers; the ocean.

Arriving at the rocky shore she realized it was a perfect opportunity for her to try and push the boundaries of her comfort zone a bit. She strongly believed that without a little discomfort life would never be exciting and so she had glided out to the red rock with her heart beating hard in her chest. For a while she just stood there, watching the foam on the waves. But as soon as she felt comfortable she had begun spreading her wings slowly. When they were extended to such a point where she felt scared again she held her position. And there she was now, a slight smile on her pale, pink lips and her heart pounding against her ribs.

For a while she kept the same pose and then she decided that it was time to give her body a chock. So she leapt off the rock and before her wings could raise her towards the heavens she was dipped in the salty water all the way up to her belly. For the thin skinned dove the summer-warm ocean held a temperature far colder than she would say was comfortable and she was happy that her downy wings carried her out of the water just as fast as she’d gone in.

The dove rose over the waves. Her heart pounded in tune with her wing beats and sweat was beginning to color the skin around her ears gray. She couldn’t even hear the sounds of the ocean over her pulse rushing in her ears. She had trouble containing a steady flight because of the quirks of the air currents and those quirks were a big factor to her fear of large open waters. It was so hard to predict which way the winds would come or go and if she fell from the sky she imagined that there must be a thousand sea monsters under the waves just waiting to feast on her skinny body. Not much on there to eat, though. She thought with a shaky smile.

The sky before the girl was light blue without even a hint of a cloud, but had she looked back towards the shoreline she would have noticed that she was in far more trouble than she had originally thought. Behind her, black clouds had been forming for as long as she’d been standing on her rusty pillar. They bore rain, thunder and lightning and would momentarily be chasing away the blue skies above the little dove. But she was too new to these lands to know the signs of a storm approaching and too focused on her task to notice the electric air around her. So when the first rumbling thunder reached her small ears she’d flown quite far out over the ocean. She stopped mid-air, let her hind quarters fall a bit and then turned back towards the sound. The black clouds had crept out over the water which was now turning deep gray and as she watched in silent horror a flash of lightning zigzagged down and hit the rocky beach.

The ocean.

Gaucho stared at it, the way a certain King Haggard might have done - searching the frothy blue waters for Unicorns. The cliffs above the Endless Blue served as his metaphorical tower, and each day when his patrol had ended, he would come here and scan the waters. There were unicorn's in those depths, he just knew it. But there was only one he was concerned with. Well, okay. Maybe two. It couldn't have been more than a season prior, that he had found Maww-jah on the beach. It hadn't taken long before My-das had joined and demanded that the unicorn be taken into custody, for crimes against the Throat. But that had never happened....Even with the combined sheer force of himself and My-das, Maww-jah had escaped. The dark Unicorn with the foreign name had possessed magic so strong, that it completely barred the two warriors from pursuit, allowing Maww-jah to slip into the sea.

That's how Gaucho knew there was at least one unicorn in there; because a day hadn't gone by, that he didn't scan the waters, waiting for Maww-jah to return.

Today was like any other. His patrol had ended, uneventfully. As he glided over the Throat, his stormy gaze looked below, searching for his lost daughter. He wasn't particularly concerned - he hadn't stayed in one place for very long when he was a foal, but even so, it had been seasons since he had seen her last.

The air currents allowed him to glide effortless at a high altitude as he made his way to the cliffs, and the sheer drop off to the waters below. The air was beginning to feel cold, as if a storm was brewing. He would have to make this quick, but he would not forgo his search all together. Gaucho could never forgive himself if he let the white unicorn slip from the sea's unnoticed, simply because he didn't want to risk a storm. His dark tail streaked behind him, as he sailed on dark wings. Gaucho's antlered brow was lowered slightly so that he could give his full attention to the sea, which caused Mara some agitation. The snake in his antlers felt the on-coming child of the storm far before Gaucho did, as it caused her blood to run thicker and slower. She had hissed her demands to return back to the warm Throat in his mind, but he had not listened. He only repeated the single word, Maww-jah, and had continued on.

Seeing Alina's white shape below, momentarily gave him a start. For so long he had seen nothing when he came to the sea, that to not only see a something but to see a something that was the right colour (well, almost), made his heart lurch for a moment. But no - it settled it almost immediately in his simple brain, that she was not his target. As he flew over the open waters, he noticed thick black clouds rolling in behind him, with lightning crackling in their midst. The open sea was no place to be during a storm - and yet from what he could see, the white mare below seemed not to notice. With a grunt, Gaucho dove from his position high above. His black wings folded lightly to his sides, only moving to help steer as he free-fell down to the waters below. His descent grew faster and faster, bringing him closer to his target as his dark gaze teared up as cool air mixed with salt from the sea, assaulted his gaze.

"You-" He bellowed loudly, as his wings unfurled, pulling him up above the waves. Yet he wasn't sure that his voice would reach the mare ahead of him, for a sudden wind seemed to have whipped up, causing the sea to become choppy and violent below them. With a grunt, Gaucho beat his beats to increase his speed in hopes of catching the mare before him. Perhaps she did hear him, or heard the thunder from behind them, but she did stop. The dun had to open his wings wide to keep from knocking into her, and sending them both into the drink below.

"Storm" He advised rather obviously, nodding his antlered brow towards the shoreline. "This sea not safe. Not during a storm" His voice was rich and deep, but it sounded somewhat choppy as he formed his speech, as if speaking this language was something that he still wrestled with - which , was true.

Gaucho is quite right. It isn't only the storm that makes the sea dangerous. Haven't you ever listened to fables? Was there not a story-teller or wise-one where you came from, Alina? Have you not heard of the ferocious creatures that lay in the depths, just waiting for two pegasi, stupid enough to stop within their reach, to do so?

Especially during a storm? You've practically gift-wrapped yourselves.

From the waves, 8 long tentacles suddenly appeared. They did not push slowly through the water, comically reaching around for their pray - oh no. They knew exactly what they were doing. Scaled on one side, and suction-cupped on the other, they shot towards Gaucho and Alina, hoping to pull these flying rats from the skies, and have them for dinner.

"MIIIINEEEEE"

Came the garbled speech from somewhere below the waves.

Alina
The dove’s smile faded from her pale face. Her pumping heart seemed to stop. Her green eyes opened wide and she suddenly forgot how to breathe. Her whole body went cold and she could thank her lucky star that her reflex to beat her wings remained untouched by the chock that grabbed a hold on her mind. She looked without really seeing; without truly comprehending how deep into danger she was. All sounds were muted to the girl, everything was so still. Seconds felt like minutes and then…

Explosion!

The little dove’s heart kick started, she gasped for air and her head hurt as all the sounds of the world suddenly reached her ears again. At the same time someone came crashing down from above, just inches from knocking Alina out of the skies. It was a strange looking pegasi stallion with antlers and he bellowed something at her. The dove had trouble understanding what he said, even though he was so very close the wind distorted his words and made them hard to catch. And there were something else, something in the way he spoke that made it even harder. But she understood what he meant and just as she was about to yell back to ask what they should do a new danger emerged.

The girl screamed. Her voice high pitched and full of horror because of what came slithering up from the ocean. A gurgling sound rose from the waters. "MIIIINEEEEE" The beast’s enormous tentacles moved fast, searching to grab the girl and the stallion. It smelled vile; like rotten fish, and Alina thought she saw a big eye peering up at her from beneath the black waves. Her worst nightmare was coming true, the nightmare that she never spoke of, the fear she carried with her silently. To be eaten alive by a monster of the sea.

Alina continued screaming and by a lucky reflex she managed to duck away from one of the searching, slimy limbs. She cursed herself for venturing so far from the safe solid ground and she looked to the stallion at her side with emerald eyes begging him to save her.

The storm was now above them. Cold, heavy rain fell and the howling wind toyed mercilessly with Alina’s light body. It pulled at her hair and wings and seemed almost set on throwing her off balance and have her falling into the mouth of the beast below. She fought with the currents, trying to find one she could rely on at the same time as she tried to avoid the thick tentacles slithering around her. She knew that she needed to get higher, but the slimy limbs seemed to be everywhere, hindering her from climbing higher up in the sky.

The scent of decaying and rotten flesh reached Gaucho's nostrils as well, causing the bone which pierced the cartilage to dance as his nose wrinkled in dismay. Hadn't he heard stories of this creature before? Had they given it a name....Walter perhaps? No. That one had been friendly - or at least, insofar as it released that sparkly-girl, who Sohalia called a friend. This creature, seemed intent on eating them - or at least, pulling them down into the depths.

Alina's screams pierced his ears, immediately sending them flat against his skull. A creature like that likely had a heightened sense of vibration - screaming could make it easier to whatever was guiding those tentacles below, to pinpoint them. With a loud grunt, Gaucho kicked downwards, colliding against a tentacle which seemed relatively un-phased by his attack. His large hoof merely seemed to be absorbed by the tentacle, rather than shoving it away. Beating his dark wings, he rose above the waters higher - but the tentacles rose with him. And then Alina was screaming again, her striking gaze searching out his with a look of desperation. Gaucho's muscular body rose higher still - and with a help from a tiny bite of Mara's fangs, a silvery mist began to pour from his antlers. Three ethereal eagle shapes began to form - though much larger than any normal eagle could grow to be. Two of them hovered around Gaucho, their silvery sheen casting beautiful patterns against his skin in the storm. The third however, flew silently to Alina. "FOLLOW" He bellowed loudly. Then to the eagle - "Back to Throat"

His attention and that of the two eagles at his side, turned back to the creature, who had managed to grasp his back right hoof. Struggling against it's grip, Gaucho's wings beat to keep him from being pulled down. In his antlers, Mara raced down the length of his neck, using his spiked collar as a holding point, so that she could wrap herself around his wing-joint, and then his back left leg. Hissing violently in the storm, Mara sank her poisonous fangs deep into the tentacle of the creature. Poison released from her mouth, forcing the creature to release its grip. Around Gaucho, the two remaining eagles dove and flitted, drawing the attention of the remaining tentacles.

With a last grunt of effort, Gaucho beat his powerful wings down, thrusting his body higher into the air rather jerkily. His blue-gray gaze looked towards the towering cliffs, hoping to see Alina and her guide nearing them - although even with the light emitted from the eagle, he found it difficult to place them. "Mara!" He bellowed to his companion. Mara wrapped herself around his left leg, hissing weakly in response. Concern flared in Gaucho, as he searched his companion's mind, but found only pain. However, above the stormy seas, with a monster just below the depths was not the best place to dwell on Mara's condition. Indeed, Gaucho couldn't have been more right. Enraged by Mara's bite, the sea-monster drew himself higher to the surface, where his tentacles could achieve maximum reach. However the creature was large and bulky, and Gaucho had nearly flown out of its reach.

Almost.

With a last ditch effort, the creature broke through the surface of the water - displaying a horrifying circular ring of teeth and one large bulging eye. With a snarl, the closest of its tentacles flew towards Gaucho. While it failed to grab hold of him, what it did succeed in, was slapping out his hind legs like a rag doll. Gaucho was thrown sideways in the air, as his body was violently turned horizontal by the blow. His wings beat frantically as he tried to return to a stable position in the air. But the damage was not only to Gaucho - as the creature collided with him, his legs were thrust together as his body pivoted - this caught Mara in a deadly squeeze between her bonded's thick legs. Her hiss was cut short, as Gaucho inadvertently squeezed the air - and most of her consciousness - from her white body. On shaky wings, Gaucho out-distanced the monster, but his right hip was badly bruised, and unbeknownst to him, Mara had been severely injured as well. Thrusting himself into the air, Gaucho followed the two eagles who had remained with him towards Alina, and the cliffs.

[ We have something going right now called "Helovia Hard Mode" - read here about it. By no means is it mandatory, I just wanted to let you why my post unfolded the way it did, why Gaucho's signature changed, etc. Basically, in situations like this, I roll a dice to see how much damage Gaucho takes. The dice indicated that Gaucho took 16 points of damage from the monster (Fairly substantial!) and that Mara received very severe wounds. So that's how I'm going to proceed with the thread. :3

Roll thread ]

[I don't know if it is OK to post before NPC, but I thought the monster wouldn't really do anything else than keep trying to get them, if it is not OK I am happy to delete and change my post after NPC replies :D

I have read about Helovia Hard Mode, but I have like a huge problem with numbers so I didn't understand it ^^' Though it is a neat way of making it more interesting I guess!]

Alina
The little dove bounced of the slimy tentacles as she without success tried to stay away from them. One of her front hooves even got stuck for a brief moment on the strange cups that were a part of the long arms. But she got loose and continued banking from one side to another as she fought both the air currents and the monster. She didn’t scream anymore. She was far too afraid, too out of breath to vocalize her fear anymore.

She searched frantically to find the strange stallion and she found that he had climbed high above her. For a split second she thought he was going to abandon her, but then something strange happened… Three glittering eagles appeared and Alina stared in disbelief. This stallion possessed magic!

A sudden gust then threw the girl off balance and she rolled off the current she was riding. She fell towards the dark ocean, but she was lucky because one of the tentacles that had been aiming to grab her now only squeezed empty air. She beat her wings as fast as she could to rise again, but she found herself trapped even closer to the dangerous waves by the slithering limbs. The water seemed to boil with the movements of the enormous monster under her and the little dove thought for a moment that there was no way out of this.

Then one of the glittering eagles descended to her and she could hear the stallion’s gruff voice through the fray. It was impossible to make out all the words, but she guessed that he wanted her to follow the eagle because the apparition swiftly flew towards the shore. Alina heaved her body forwards, pressing down and back on the air with her downy wings.

She ducked and swayed for the slimy arms and soon an opening appeared before her. With the cold rain in her eyes and the thunder in her ears she pressed forwards and then… She was out!

Just as a smile began spreading on her lips she had the strangest sensation. It felt cold and wet and pressuring. That vile smell of rotten fish invaded her nostrils and suddenly she was yanked out of the sky. Before she could even start to scream she was submerged under the crashing waves. The sound of the storm lessened in strength as her body was dragged deeper and deeper.

Alina twisted and turned with all her might, she bit down on the slippery tentacle and tried to tear off a piece of it. She kicked and tried to bend the tentacle loose by extending her wings, but it all seemed in vain.

[Nope, you're good! Usually NPC's like this only post once...you can sort of write-out what it does after the fact.]

Gaucho could not see Alina, but he could see his missing eagle. It was hovering about 10 feet above the waves, like a ghostly hallucination. Surely the white mare couldn't have flown all the back to the cliffs in time for the eagle to have come all the way back? Perhaps she possessed magic like Kri did - to summon wings to boost her speed but...even that would have been a stretch. Confused, Gaucho flew towards the Eagle, lowering himself to about the height that it had was hovering at, and suddenly he understood.

Even though the waters churned and frothed with the violence of the incoming storm, for all of its darkness, it could not completely swallow Alina. Her body was almost made brighter, but the stark contrast of its purity, against the stormy waves. Gaucho's body momentarily tensed, as his primitive mind tried to calculate the possibilities that were available to him. The cliffs were too far away to reach in time - especially since it didn't look as though Alina would be able to get out of this on her own. Not only that, but as the darkness of the storm descended upon the sea, their bodies would soon be lost from vision: no one would be looking.

Had Gaucho known that Mara was fading in and other of consciousness, his decision might have changed - likely not, but it would have weighed on his mind somewhat. Mara was not just his companion, she was possibly the only one in the world that he had sentimental feelings about. Still, she had a warrior's heart to match his, and would have stood by his decision to rescue the drowning damsel.

Gaucho dove headfirst into the waves, are silently commanding Mara to hold on, and hold her breath. The three spirit-eagles coalesced into a blob of silvery light, and followed Gaucho below the surface, where they quickly dispersed into a large dolphin-shaped mass. Gaucho hoped that the light and shape would distract the creature, as it flitted by the tentacle holding Alina. He didn't know anything about the creature's tastes, but hoped a shining dolphin would look more appetizing than a floundering pegasus. Gaucho flapped his wings in an effort to propel himself down to where Arlina was. He tried to strike at the tentacle holding her, and cut it with the sharpened spikes that protruded from a band of leather fastened around his shoulders.

[I didn't want to write too far ahead - up to you if it lets her go! ]

Alina
The lack of oxygen was getting to the girl. She felt dizzy; just like when she was having one of her anxiety attacks, and her furious kicking and biting had almost stopped. She strangely felt like sleeping and her eye lids slowly dropped to hide her emerald eyes. Had she been stronger she might have fought for a while longer, but she was not a strong mare. She lacked the stamina and the muscles to inflict any kind of damage on the slimy tentacle that was wrapped around her.

If it was Gaucho’s slashing and kicking, the flash of a glowing dolphin or something else entirely was not clear to the girl, but the beast suddenly loosened its grip and Alina’s limp body glided away. In her almost unconscious state she began to notice that she was not longer squeezed by the giant monster. At first her eyes opened slowly as she continued sinking, but then she suddenly regained her anchor in the real world and opened her eyes wide. The salty water stung and she had trouble making out what was up and down, but she saw a faint flash that she decided must be lightning and aimed for it.

She thought she saw a dark shadow at the corner of her eye and that reminded her of the stallion, but she didn’t have time to investigate; she needed air and she needed it fast!

As she broke through the surface of the waves, into the fray of the storm, she sucked in the precious air; filling her lungs so that it almost hurt. She coughed and she fought against the waves as they tried to pull her back under. Her eyes settled on the beach and she started swimming. It was impossible for the dove to jump out of the water and take flight; her wings were too wet and heavy, she was too weak and too shaken for such a feat. So she swam.

Alina was sure that any second the monster could grab her again and pull her back into the dark so she pressed on with only her fear as fuel. As she kicked her skinny legs as fast as she could Alina looked for her savior, because it must have been him and his magic that caused the monster to let her go, but the waves obscured her vision. She couldn’t even listen after him through the howling of the wind. But as she neared the shore she noticed that the wind was subsiding and that the rain had already stopped; the storm was heading further out the ocean and away from the mainland.

Suddenly the dove’s front hooves met solid bottom. Finally she was safe! Her feet slipped and scrambled over the slimy rocks as she crawled out of the ocean. Her legs were shaking tremendously and she wasn’t even able to stand. She collapsed with her hindquarters still in the water, her sides heaving and her eyes rolling in their sockets.

[Sorry for the delay!]

Gaucho wasn't sure what had caused the creature to release it's grip on the white mare - whether it had been his outright attack, or the distraction of the dolphin, or perhaps some other source - it didn't really matter. All the dun knew, was that he saw Alina's body moving towards the surface, seemingly on her own. He did not dawdle to understand the situation any more than that - he needed oxygen just as much as she, as did Mara. With a grunt, Gaucho beat his wings, using them like paddles to move his large body through the water. It was difficult, for his mass was so large and his body already so fatigued from previous injury, but he managed. As his antlered skull broke through the crest of the waves, his gaze spied the mare moving steadily towards the shore. Weakily, Mara slithered to his antlers - being able to move her body much easier through the waters than her bonded. She looped herself over the very top of his antlers, mentally begging him to keep his head afloat.

His thigh ached immensely, and for the first time in a very long while, Gaucho felt physically exhausted. Normally Gaucho would appreciate the opportunity to build a different set of muscles - to learn of any weaknesses in his body was merely a tool to improving them. Now however, he just wanted to reach land. The extent of Mara's condition was slowly seeping into his brain, but he knew he could do little for her while he was still in the sea. So, with what remaining strength he had, he followed Alina to shore.

In a similar manner as she, once his large hooves struck the sand and his body was forced to deal with full gravity once again, he collapsed. Gaucho was like a giant boulder as he slumped on the beach, compared to Alina's much smaller and more graceful shape. "Need Onni..." He grunted weakly, his deep voice now course with pain. His right thigh felt nearly paralyzed with pain from the monster's attack, and Mara had almost completely lost consciousness. He was in no condition to fly - nor was Alina, it seemed. Gaucho felt his chest tighten, as he once again tried to call on the magic that swirled within his soul, but it would not come. The spark of power could only be ignited when his blood had been spilt, and the small gash Mara had given him, had completely closed. Gnashing his teeth together, Gaucho forced himself up slightly, thrusting a dark forelimb forward. There was a rock nearby, and with a little effort, Gaucho pulled his body towards it. Ears against his skull, he slammed he knee onto the sharp side of the rock several times, until it pulled the skin away and blood began to rise to the surface. With a sigh of exhaustion and pain, Gaucho slumped over in the sands, as silvery liquid once again poured from his antlers. Nearly too mentally tired to force the magic into a shape, it remained a floating blob for a moment, before finally forming into two distinct animals : a snake, and a songbird. "Find...Onnninniiiii..." He grunted weakly to the floating shapes. Could they go that far away from him? Gaucho had no idea - nor did he know if Onni would understand the symbolic animals. But it was the best he could do.

Alina
Heavy breathing shook Alina’s pale body where she lay halfway out of the ocean. She felt light headed and utterly exhausted, but she wasn’t exactly hurt. She was a bit bruised around her ribs and abdomen, but that was about it. And she had the dun stallion to thank for that; if it wasn’t for him and his magic the dove would have lost her life that day.

Ever so slowly Alina lifted her head to search for her savior. Every muscle in her body felt stiff and she moved as if she were at least 100 years old, but it wasn’t long until her emerald eyes fell upon the antlered stallion. He was crawling up from the water and as she watched he hit his knee against a rock which puzzled the dove immensely. She saw once again the mist rise from his crown and after awhile it changed into the shapes of two animals. The stallion spoke a name and the apparitions floated away.

Stiffly and slowly the dove collected her legs under her body. She saw that the stallion was in worse shape than her and she wanted to see if she could help in any way. She owed him as much for what he had done for her. So she called upon what strength she had gotten back from her short rest and unfolded her front legs. She stayed in that position for only a second then she proceeded with bracing her legs and with the help of her right wing she managed to stand up. Her legs trembled and her body ached, but she was set on reaching the stallion so she stumbled forwards.

She fell to her knees just beside the other pegasus and her hindquarters soon followed. With a dull thud her white body was once more on the ground. This was the first time she noticed the snake in the stallion’s antlers and had she been less exhausted she would have been scared, but the only thing she had strength to do was to flinch slightly at the sight of the serpent. Where Alina came from snakes were symbols of hidden danger, but they also represented cunning and intelligence. Even if she was startled at first the dove soon figured that the snake and the stallion must be friends.

The girl extended her trembling muzzle and touched her savior’s cheek. ”Thank you.” She breathed and managed to give him a slight smile. Then the dove looked to the snake again. ”She is cold blooded. She needs warmth.” Alina murmured and inched her body closer to the dun stallion.

The air was still cold after the sudden storm and a lot of clouds were still chasing over the sky so Alina figured that if she and the stallion lay close to each other the snake could curl up between them. She even draped her right wing over the stallion’s back so that the serpent would be protected from the wind. Not knowing how to properly address the snake Alina just gave her a smile and gestured with her eyes towards the space between her and the stallion. You’ll be warm in here. She thought and hoped the intelligent animal would understand.

[Ooc; No worries :D]

WENT THE DISTANCE, NOW I'M NOT GONNA STOP.
JUST A MAN AND HIS WILL TO SURVIVE.

The world begins to crash down upon Gaucho, much like the waves which are still lapping against the shore. While the storm has moved farther away, the effects on the sea are still admirable and considerable. The churning of the tides has caused the waves which roll up against their bodies to be colder than normal - but Gaucho almost welcomes it. The chill of the water helps to soothe the flaring pain that he feels spreading from his hindquarter into his spine.

Gaucho's steely-gray gaze opens as he feels the soft touch of Alina's muzzle upon his dark cheek. For a moment he is surprised that she has come so close - most keep their distance, due to the war paint that covers his body, the spikes around his neck, and of course, the snake. Perhaps the mare is dazed herself - more than likely - but Gaucho welcomes the touch. It tells him that he is still alive, and so is she. As she moves closer, Gaucho gaze swims, mistaking her for Sohalia. They are nearly the same size with nearly the same pattern of white covering their feminine frames. Were he in less pain, he might have noticed some of the differences - Sohalia had one blue and one green eye, while Alina's eyes were the same, but contained both colours. He might have noted the odd glisten of blue against Alina's mane, that's Soh's lacked, but for all purposes at the moment, they might as well have been the same.

Gaucho's bone-pierced nose lowered to his chest, where he pressed a small button located on his collar. Instantly, the bone-spikes retreated, leaving his muscled chest and shoulders, harmless. With a grunt of pain, he rolled his body towards Alina's, vaguely understanding her motives for being close: warmth. Although a creature like Gaucho likely would have spontaneously approved of the physical contact, even were no purpose immediately evident to him.

Gaucho's own blackened wing raised, gently moving to fall upon Alina's wither and back - indeed, the difference in their size was so great, that the expanse of his wing could nearly cover her completely. His antlered skull lowered to the ground, tilting slightly to encourage Mara to follow the white mare's suggestion. "Mara go." He encouraged, to which the snake gave no response. Her black eyes opened weakly, looking into the sea-bright gaze of Alina. Her forked tongue taste the air, as she regarded the mare's warm smile somewhat skeptically. Mara sssssleep She mentally hissed to Gaucho. Pinning his ears back, Gaucho shook his antlers, forcing the snake to either move, or be tossed from her cradle. Hissing with slightly more energy now, the steel coloured snake slithered from his antlered, onto the wet sand. Raising her head up slightly, she moved to the place where Gaucho and Alina's intersection would create the most heat. Coiling herself tightly, the snake once again ceased to move.

With a grunt, Gaucho nodded with thanks to Alina. "I Gaucho" He offered, shifting himself slightly upon the sands, so as not to cut off circulation to his hind end while laying down. Inadvertently, this would have caused his feathers to move gently upon her back - should she not have tried to avoid his touch. Their proximity was so close now, that the dun took great care as he turned to face her, not wanting to knock her with his antlers - yet once again, his towering size proved beneficial, for even laying down as they were, he still rose much higher than she. "Are you alright?" His speech sounded primitive, choppy even, but filled with concern. Each member of the Throat, whether unknown to him or not, was his to care for, to protect.

Alina
Alina would lie if she claimed that the hissing of the snake didn’t frighten her, but she kept still, however a bit stiff until the grey serpent had slithered into place. She was alarmed also by the collar around the stallion’s neck, but in her weakened state the girl had failed to notice it at first and when she finally did she was already laying close beside him. Now that she was so near she also noticed the strange markings on his body and the bone piercing his nose. But after what he had done for her she simply couldn’t perceive him as threatening.

A slight shiver traveled through the dove’s slender body. Somewhat like the snake, Alina was a child of warmth and the water had lowered her body’s temperature severely. But she could feel the warmth slowly coming back thanks to the big, black wing resting over her withers and covering her left side. Because of her smaller size she was almost out of range from the lapping waves that fell upon the stallion’s hind legs which was also a reason for the warmth returning to her limbs.

More out of tiredness than choice the cremello girl placed her head on the wet sand. She lay so close to the stallion that she could feel his breath on her muzzle and it made her feel safe. Their wings were almost locked together which also gave her the sensation of being cared for and looked after which she hadn’t had for a long time. She had been alone for so long and in her tired haze she suddenly knew that Dragon’s Throat was a place she didn’t want to leave anytime soon. If its inhabitants would risk their life in order to save a stranger’s then she couldn’t be safer anywhere else.

The stallion then turned to her and said: ”I Gaucho.” The pale girl took note of how carefully he shifted his head and she was thankful that he was so aware of his crown. Alina then reflected on his name and she suddenly realized that she was lying improperly close to one of her Sultans!

”Milord, I had no idea it was you. I beg your pardon if my being so near is improper behavior. I have little practice in associating with leads. My name is Alina Josephina by the way, I am very pleased to meet you Milord Gaucho.”

Alina almost missed his question while explaining herself, but his primitive accent made his words stand out and so she managed to catch what he was saying. She gave him a broad smile and said: ”Thanks to you, Milord, I live to see another day. I am stiff and sore, but it is not too bad.” Growing more serious the girl met Gaucho’s steely gaze with concern in her emerald eyes. ”How about you?”

Gaucho frowned as she called him milord. Weakly, from underneath their wings, Mara hissed her laughter, causing her silvery body to shake slightly with effort. The snake mentally described Alina's meaning, causing Gaucho to grunt in response. He was no Milord. He was called a Sultan, but that was My-das' request. If anything, he would have preferred the title of Commander, as Kri had called herself, but ultimately it mattered little. What he was called didn't matter - it was what he did, that counted. The dun shook his antlered skull to dismiss her worries. In his current state, however inappropriate their position was, was heavily outweighed by the precarious health of his companion. Not only that, but he was unsure if he would be able to move - to stand. He hoped that Onni would come shortly, so that he wouldn't have to find out.

His dark lips parted in a painful smile, as she spoke her name. It was a simple name - the first one at least, and that was a change. Most mares, while dainty as Alina, had complicated names that strained his lips to pronounce. This one, All-eee-na, rolled off of his dark lips easily enough. "A-leen-ah" He said slowly, his voice husky with pain.

As she noted that she was fine - stiff and sore, without any serious disabilities - Gaucho sighed thankfully. Still, he allowed his stormy gaze to wash over her (noting the sleekness of her body along the way), as he searched for hidden injuries. Often, after such traumatic events, the mind would block the more serious wounds to prevent shock. Although her coat was slightly coated from the seawater and sand, Gaucho's roaming gaze couldn't find any marks upon her to suggest significant wounds. As she turned her attention towards him, the dun unhelpfully shook his head ambiguously.

"Gaucho...fine.." He mumbled wearily, as he laid his muzzle upon the sands, silently pleading for Onni to arrive quickly. In truth, his right hip was almost entirely numb, and the pain was beginning to radiate into his spin. He feared that something had been dislodged deep within him, and was now affecting the rest of his body. Not only that, but he could feel his energy levels rapidly decreasing. The amount that it took to keep his core warm, was now seriously hindered by the amount of magic he had expelled in trying to rescue Alina, and sending more after Onni.

onni.</style>

Peacefully, the pair lay in a bed of grass near the Oasis. Lyhty upon a few blades, stalking bugs with his eyes quietly, as if he were a cat. Onni watched the ripples of water and light cascade in the lake, mind wandering far from the present. Thinking over past events, those yet to occur, but nothing seemed to hint toward the fight waging between a monster and Gaucho.

It was not until one of the lights began to glow with silver that Onni's concentration is broken. The spot grows larger, another accompanies, dancing upon the water. The shaman shakes her pale face, beads clanking about on her neck. The gleaming shapes get closer, blue tints escaping the shimmering silver. Rising to her knees, the healer awaits their arrival. Jumping in alarm, Lyhty rises to the shaman's shoulder. A snake of silver and blue dances about her hooves, the small bird arriving next.

Puzzled, the shaman watches the pair, uncertain of their origin or meaning. The bird upon her shoulder chirps in alarm, but Onni feels no fear when gazing at the strange shapes. A snake. A bird. Symbols dancing about her hooves and urging her to listen. The sky eyes begin to fixate upon the snake, for it was familiar, though she could not place it immediately. Were it not or Lyhty, she many have taken even longer to catch on. Gaucho have snake, the bird remarks casually, trying to piece together her memory. She mean. Images of her viewing him as though he were a meal are given, flashes in time.

A snake and a bird. A pegasus and his snake.

"Gaucho," the mare breathes into the air, the glimmering shapes seeming to appear with fervor. "He must be injured." Why else would he seek her in such an indirect way?
"Where, little friends? Where is he?"

Back over the lake of the Oasis in the direction they had originated. A pair of silvery shapes leading the way, the painted lady pushes hard against her wings, trying to gain speed, trying to push past the barriers of distance. Time was a precious commodity, one that she had squandered thinking of Gaucho's desperate gesture. The small shapes were the only clues offered, the only the stallion could muster. Surely, he would be splayed across the sand bleeding out by now, and the shaman too late to aid him. The image of Voltaic's broken body seeps into her mind, the pain, the wasted energy of the golden light that could not stitch fast enough to spare her mentor's life. To lose another friend in this life would be difficult to handle, but for some reason, the thought that Gaucho could be felled was even more terrifying.

The brute had always been stable, strong. To think he could be defeated never crossed Onni's mind. If he had, there were larger problems in this life for her to face.

Pleasant relief floods her heart at the site of the stallion laying, not so bloodied, upon the beach. The white slim figure next to him is unfamiliar, but Onni smiles knowingly. They likely were saved by the protective giant. "Gaucho!" she says, her voice projecting ahead, wings settling to a lower pace as she angles back toward the earth. The illuminated figure of the shaman landing upon the sandy shore, hooves churning more mud as she plunges toward the pair, an urgency borne only of a medic.

Coming to a sudden halt a few steps from the trio, Onni's worried eyes scan them easily. The small figure of a snake found between the pair almost appears lifeless, and the mare has to withhold a gasp. "What happened?" her eyes look toward Alina, who would likely be able to explain much better than Gaucho.

Alina
"A-leen-ah"

The pale dove liked the way Gaucho uttered her name, it sounded as if he tasted every vowel before he let them fall from his lips, and she even got the impression that he liked the taste. The sultan was, to say the least, an interesting stallion and Alina would have bombarded him with questions about his past if they had met under different circumstances. But for the moment she wasn’t really herself. The young mare didn’t know it, but she was in chock after the near-death-experience, so her brain wasn’t fully functioning on all levels. The chock was also the reason why Alina was being so calm.

The stallion’s reply to her question forced a wry smile to the girl’s pink lips. She didn’t believe he was “fine”, but said nothing more on the matter. She figured he was in a lot of pain, but that it wasn’t life-threatening, but Alina had no idea how using his magic effected the dun steed - if she had known she would have been more worried.

Under her black, feathered cover the pale girl started to feel sleepy. Warmth was returning to her body and she lay completely relaxed with her small head resting on the sand and her emerald eyes half closed. The nearness of this strong, masculine stallion had seemingly no other effect on her than making her feel safe. Most mares at her age would have at least felt their hormones jump around a little bit, but Alina’s body didn’t seem to respond to the smell of testosterone. Maybe it was the chock that occupied her reptilian brain and blocked everything else out?

”I am starting to get warm. I am glad you have such big wings, Milord.” the dove murmured just at the brink of falling asleep. If she had been able to read the stallion’s thoughts on the word “Milord” she would have stopped calling him that, but Alina was brought up with calling all high ranking horses “Milord” and “Milady”. Since none of Alina’s parents were born into the Hölscheron herd (in which they had lived) they had been very low on the social ladder and thus they needed to address the superior horses with respect.

The dove inched her head closer to Gaucho’s and exhaled in a soft sigh. Just as she was about to fall asleep a sound of beating wings pulled her from the gate to the Land of Dreams. Without opening her eyes Alina flicked her ears to try and understand what was going on. But as the sound of the other pegasi came closer she lifted her head and pushed her sleepiness away.

Opening her eyes Alina saw an unfamiliar mare come towards her and the sultan. With an expression of urgency on her white face and a look of concern in her blue eyes the mare landed and hurried over to them. Could this be the Throat’s healer? Alina tried to smile at her, but she wasn’t entirely successful.

”There was a storm,” Alina started to explain. ”It came so fast and I was far out over the ocean. Lord Gaucho flew out to warn me and then suddenly something came out of the ocean. Long, slimy limbs - I have never seen anything like it! It got me. I almost drowned, but Lord Gaucho saved me. If not for him, I would have been dead.”

Her final words seemed to echo within her head. ”I would have been dead.” Dead… dead… A blank expression suddenly overtook the girls face and she turned a bit stiff. The chock was letting go of her brain and her fear of death bulldozed though her mind; claiming attention. Her nostrils parted and she started breathing faster. She felt like getting up from the ground and pace to and fro on the beach, but she knew that doing so would not help; it would rather make it worse.

Stop it! Her mind screamed at her. You have control over this so stop doing this to yourself! Stress, guilt, fear, anger and sorrow washed over the girl as she saw her world turn black. She began feeling dizzy. Stop it, before it is too late!

Had she been alone Alina would have suffered a stronger attack, but when she was in the presence of others she could usually control herself better. This time she managed to take a deep breath and hold it for a while. She concentrated on the feeling of Gaucho’s warm body against hers and it helped her to return to the real world. The episode was over in mere seconds and then the girl was back to normal.

”I am glad Lord Gaucho was near.” she stated as if there had been no interruption to her story.

[ooc; Excuse this crap of crap post ^^' I am very tired]

WENT THE DISTANCE, NOW I'M NOT GONNA STOP.
JUST A MAN AND HIS WILL TO SURVIVE.

He could hear Alina speaking but...why had she gone so far away? Her voice sounded like it was being brought to him from across the sea, on some wayward breeze, rather than right next to him in the sands. For a moment, he considered opening his eyes and looking - to find out where she had gone but - alas. Even the thought of using his mind for such a trivial task seemed...unimportant. At least, that's what his slowly-fading from consciousness brain would have him think. Sleep seemed...like a luxury he was so often denied, and now, as his weary body was supported by the frigid sands, and his hind-end was slowly losing feeling due to the waters lapping over him, it seemed like something he had earned.

Was that breath on his nose? His mind stirred slightly, as Alina's pale muzzle inched closer to his own. Funny... He thought drowsily as his eyes remained firmly closed. How she make her voice do that, if she still here? But that not----Onni? Suddenly the idea of the nearness of Alina and the presence of Onni began to overlap in his mind. Mentally, he saw the white-winged one he had thrust from the ocean but...she didn't have those patches of brown before did she? Onni's mental image began to shift and superimpose itself over Alina, until the dun was sure that it was over her shoulders, that his dark wing now rested.

As their voices melded together in an unsettling conversation - if indeed they were one mare, as his oxygen strained brain was now starting to believe - Gaucho forced his eyes open. They were nearly bloodshot now, and very weary looking, as he strained to see what was going on without moving his antlered head. It was indeed Alina next to him, and not Onni. For a moment, an indescribable pang of emotion burst in his chest as the mental-scene was broken apart. Or perhaps, it was simply blood flowing through his wearily muscles as he tried to move. Grunting with effort, he raised his head off the sands, craning his neck to try and bring the shaman into view. As his gaze fell upon her, his head promptly fell back to the sands with a dull thud.

"Onnnnnniii" He whispered almost dreamily, as his eyes threatened to close once more. Then, almost immediately, they snapped open as memories of the preceding few minutes crashed upon him. His focus sharpened with an almost hostile ferocity, as he gazed at the paint. With what seemed like a ridiculous amount of effort, Gaucho raised his black wing off of Alina's, revealing the unconscious snake huddled between them. Without moving his gaze from the shaman, he let his wing slap down against his flank. "Mara. Onni heal. He demanded, before adding in a much quieter and weaker voice, "-please."

The looming clouds of a storm in the distance are brought to her attention, now, by the story spilling from Alina's delicate lips. The shaman listens intently, her eyes wandering over their bodies for obvious breaks, pains, or other more immediate threats. It appears that the pair of pegasus are simply cold, groggy, tired, but poor Mara, what had happened to her?

The shift of the antlered crown on the primitive stallion gathers Onni's attention to see his stormy gaze sleepily upon her. She misses the terror crossing Alina's face after the mention of her would-be passing, instead intent on instilling a face of warm understanding to the gentle giant. I am glad Lord Gaucho was near. The shaman smiles, a pleasant expression belying the circumstances. Gazing underneath the black feathered wing as it is shakily moved, the shaman gets a better view of the snake, limp and unresponsive. Upon her shoulder, even Lyhty swallows his distaste for the creature and exudes an aura of sympathy and worry, singing a small nervous trill.

"I will do my best, Gaucho," the mare says softly, face tilting upward to the sky, seeking the light of the sun. The soft golden aura that was constant around her body begins to grow, pulsate, as though she were channeling the sunlight through her spirit, her very body. White flames burst forth from her hooves, engulfing the sands around them. The mists of the ocean sizzle and evaporate against the impermeable flames, which march forward with purposeful strength to engulf the white snake between the pair of winged kin. The flames draw out the cold from the bodies surrounding it, a good old fashioned hearth that breathes life into its company.

Mara. The snake. From the outside, there was no apparent damage, and the creature appeared to be sleeping peacefully. Inside, however, the delicate bones running the length of her body had been crushed, the organs pierced, squeezed, damaged. The fires begin to course upon the most severely wounded, the dear companion of Gaucho, racing against the pulse of the reptile's cold heart. Onni's brow knits in terrible concentration, mentally feeling the injuries out, finding the most severe to repair before moving onward.

The battle taking place in the small body of the snake is intense, but Onni smiles peacefully as she begins to take a turn for the better. The fires dance and dim, fading away into speckles of sunlight before disappearing entirely. Onni opens here eyes, the soft aura of sunlight around her returning to nothing more than a sunkissed glow.
