The Mongrel led her there, a shadow slithering through the shade, black on black, eyes glowing with a dim light, teeth bared in wicked grin, taking joy in the night. They moved on through day, the sunshine aching in their eyes, but Confutatis followed her Mongrel in silence, wearing her thin smile on thin lips, her vindictive pleasure in life faded. Together they were, in silent unison. Once every so often the Lady Death stopped, cropping at coarse grass, and her kitsune would leap and scrabble his way to her broad back, where he bit at her withers and lapped at her blood. She did not mind the pain. She liked how it tasted when it was Mongrel who gave her the gift... and she liked the joy that echoed through their bond as Mongrel pleasured in the glistening red blood that flowed. Eventually, the scabs and scarring was too thick for Mongrel to chew through with his needle teeth, and he gave way sullenly. She offered him her face, but he didn't take it. Mongrel liked his companion. They suited each other quite well, in his nefarious opinion. Some might say he was brainwashed, unable to understand there were other, better ways to live life than lurking in the shadows, preying on the succulent, tender flesh of baby They were a magnificent duo. Together they moved towards the tree, a blight in the golden light emitted from the phoenix, uncaring of their hideous darkness, edging their way around death and other unseemly things. They wondered how the phoenix would taste, but they didn't dare try to eat it. It might burn their tongues. |
