The dark mare wandered cautiously through the trees, almost looking like a shadow. Her ears were tilted forward, catching every sound. Every crunch of the leaves under her solid hooves. Her heart pounded in a steady rhythm in her chest, and she flicked her tail nervously. Her nostrils flared, and she breathed in the crisp cool scent of this new and unfamiliar land. The breeze gently ruffled her long mane, chilling her. She shivered. The visible sky through the canopy of trees was an ominous pale grey color looming above the earth. As she continued along her way she wondered if she would encounter any other equines like herself. She sure hoped not. She didn't think she was welcome here, and didn't want to meet any hostility. But had absolutely no clue as to where she was, and the name of this place. Suddenly, she stopped short, her mind flooded with the bitter memories of her past. She shuddered as she recalled the rogue stallion and his band attacking her birth herd, killing both her parents and her brother. He had tried to capture her, and she had been forced to flee her home, barely escaping. She had been wandering alone for the past year.

The sound of a snapping branch brought her back to her senses. She shied backwards, and backed up a few feet. Is there anybody there? Her voice was hoarse and rough from no use. But her fearful voice was just a passing echo in the breeze. Then she noticed that it was just a small red bird sitting in the branched above. But the adrenaline was still pumping through her system. She broke into a fast canter, veering around the tall trees that lay in her pay. The wind whipped through her mane, and blew her long forelock into her eyes. Her solid grey hooves dug into the earth, eating up the ground. She effortlessly leaped over a fallen log, tucking her slender legs neatly underneath her body. She gave a small snort as she landed, and broke into a trot, then back to a walk.

She couldn't afford to be making so much noise, when there could be anybody around. She didn't want to be confronted. She huffed, still exhilarated from her fast paced run. She didn't know which direction to take, so she just kept heading in the direction she had been originally going.

Abishia's hooves lead her to the Threshold, to cure her boredom. She has been wondering for days on end wishing to meet someone new, or to converse with anyone. With the figures flanking her, she swiftly makes her way to the region where newcomers are welcome, hoping to find someone to greet and welcome to the great and wonderful Helovia. The dainty and beautiful fae picks her way around tree branches and some dense bushes before entering the Threshold. Antie is leading her, to who knows where. Although she looks confident, so she must know where she is going. But, you never know, Abishia may be wrong, it is hard to tell the emotions of a ghost, and a spirit she can only see, at that. On Antie's rump sits a red cardinal, although this bird has the same gloom as Antie, and the mysterious glow. The bird chirps happily, preening its feathers and laying the ones that fall out onto Antie's rump.

The peaceful scene is soon disturbed by a loud rustling. Antie slows to a halt, Abishia coming up next to her, their sides touching. Antie flicks her harks to and fro, while the filly glances around in confusion.

" Looks like we got a clumsy one! "

Antie chuckles and nuzzles Abishia gently on the shoulder. The fae giggles, batting her long eyelashes before nuzzling Antie back, her muzzle resting on the ghostly figure's whither. The filly smiles,

" Ah, a newcomer. Great! Now I can make a new friend! "

Antie simply scoffs before once again taking the lead, now jogging in the direction of the sound. Excitment is felt between the small band of horses, only one though that is truly living. But to Abishia, these are her friends, and her family. She doesn't mind that she sees dead beings, she views it as a special gift given to her by the Gods.

Soon they come to a clearing, which ahead they can see a black equine, looking quite stirred up. The foal giggles, trying to supress her happiness. After a moment's delay, she steps forward, now about four horse lengths from the ebony mare. She smiles at her, although her rump is facing Abishia. She begins to speak, her voice loud and clear like birdsong, but as soft as feathers.

" Greetings. I beilieve you are a newcomer, yes? Well, welcome to Helovia. I have come to your aid to help you. I may be young, but don't be fooled. I can offer you safety with my mother and I, and a home. "

The filly breathes out, not used to this. She had probably said too much, to quickly hut hey, it was her first time. Quickly, she adds,

" Oh yes, and I am Abishia, may I ask your name, beautiful miss, hmm? "

{ Not to be confused, others can only see Abishia. The figures she speaks of are ghosts, not visible to anyone but her (: }

The mare kept walking through the dense trees. Her long tail almost dragged the ground, and she flicked it nervously. She didn't smell or hear a trace of any others around here. Perhaps this land was uninhabitted. Her dark chocolate orbs scanned the area around her, detecting nothing. She breathed a sigh of relief, and felt her herself relax some. This place really was beautiful once she really looked around. Tall thin trees towered above her, and the ground was covered with colorful leaves. Lost in her thoughts, she just barely detected the sounds of branches snapping behind her.

The mare whirled around, scattering leaves in a flurry all around her. She clumsily almost tripped over her own legs. Her heart hammered in a crazy rhythm, and felt as if it would burst right out of her chest. Her muscles were already tense as she was about to flee. Then she noticed the small chestnut tobiano filly. She had a small yet strong looking frame. Yet what caught the mare's eye was the big cheerful smile on her face, and how excited and happy she looked.

As she spoke, her voice was soft and cut through the deafening silence. She welcomed her to Helovia, and asked if she was a newcomer. She even offered her a home with her mother and her. She said that her name was Abishia. The mare paused, debating how to answer. She looked around but didn't see the filly's mother anywhere nearby. Perhaps she was close. She slowly raised her eyes from the ground; looking up. She somehow knew she could trust this filly. As her dark brown eyes met with the filly's sage green ones, she felt her heart swell with gratitude. A small smile slowly spread across her face.

Hello Abishia! It's nice to meet you! Yes I am new to this beautiful place you call Helovia. I came from a land far away, and traveled a long way to get here. she decided she wouldn't tell her tragic story yet. She just couldn't bring herself to. Her heart wrenched with the painful memories.

thank you for offering to help me. I have no idea where I am, or.... where to go. My legs are weary from traveling so long...... Oh! And my name is Láska. I would love to be friends with you! she took a deep breath, filling her lungs with the cool air. She hadn't talked at all in the past year, and her voice felt hoarse and rough.

The day was gray and murky, with low clouds looming above the taut figure of a white stallion. His red tinged mane blew into his eyes, as he submerged into the looming forest. Calm, and usually happy this day seemed to drag his mood down, a depressing day really. Arrane longed for sunny days to brighten up his feelings. Cyan eyes scanned the area as a chilling breeze whistled in. The air was frigid with on coming winter, and Arrane knew more gloomy days awaited in the future. Walking slowly, a voice sounded far away, timid and fear filled though it was hoarse. Ears pricking up, Arrane picked up pace, trotting to where the new comer was. But there was no trace of the wandering mare as he approached, sensing that she had run off.

A mere smile played upon his maw as he continued trudging forwards, knowing he would eventually find someone in the woods. Not long after hearing the elusive adventurer, he heard feminine voices resonating through the trees. In a friendly manner, Arrane emerged from the shadows and trees, catching parts of their conversations. Before him stood an ebony mare, a little bit shorter than him, and a chestnut tobiano filly. A kind grin appeared on his face and amiable eyes roamed on the ladies. Respectfully dipping his head, he took his turn to speak.

"Good day, Misses", addressing them, Arrane confidently spoke hoping he could aid one, if not both of them. "I am Arrane from the Foothills, and I bet you must be tired from all that traveling", sympathetic tones accompanied his sentence as he gazed at the black mare. He stood quiet seeing that they were having their own personal conversation. "I also have a home to offer. For you, and also to you", he switched his eyes to the filly. Her mother and her could use protection and a loving family. A thoughtful smile arose once more, happy that he found horses to converse with. He adored the Foothills, yes, but it was nice to meet new comers in Helovia.

A tense reaction at first was always common, and sometimes humorous. The mare jumped a bit, which caused Abishia to giggle slightly. The girl stepped closer to the fae, hoping to hear better. The mare agreed that she was new to Helovia, and technically said she was lost.

Abishia grew excited, she could show this newcomer around, which is what the beautiful girl wanted to do in the first place. She could inform the newbie of the ways of the lands, tell her about the herds, the band's... And her band, The Aztecs. Although it wasn't offical yet... She still needed members, and a leader for that matter. Surely others would come and offer her a home in the herdlands, and the mare would be left alone to fend for herself once again. With a sigh, she flicked her harks, hoping to catch everything thet the other mare was saying. The mare calls herself Láska. An interesting name.

" Well, you are in Helovia, miss. This is the Threshold, where all the newbies come to be claimed or state themselves as an outcast. "

Before she can finish, a Stallion comes into the scene. His respectful gestures and kind smile had Abishia already tling a liking. His voice was kind, ringing out to dance along with the breeze. The brute introduces himself as Arrane. The girl looks him over curiously, her blue rimmed orbs float over his white coat and his mane that is unusually tipped with crimson. She smiles lightly, beggining to speak when he beats her to it.

"I also have a home to offer. For you, and also to you"

This takes the filly aback. She has never thought of finding a home for herself; too indulged in other beings and caring for them. Her ears flick to an erect position, surprised by how friendly this brute is, and how he opened up his home to not one, but two , 'homeless' mares. She liked Arrane, he was very charming.

" Arrane, pleased to meet you. I am Abisha, not new here but you could call me a wonderer. "

She pauses, wondering if she should accept his offer, or refuse it. But the filly simply didn't have the heart to turn him down. Abishia does need a home, true, but she still needs time to explore. It would be great to tag along nd see what it is like in The Windtossed Foothills. Maybe she would be accepted there. Glancing to the black mare next to her, she throws Láska a little giggle and a friendly smile. She then turned back to the boy with the cayan orbs.

" My friend here, Láska, is a new comer. If she choses to go with you I would like to tag along to experience what the Foothills are like, if it is fine with you, Arrane. "

As they stood there, the little filly seemed to grow more excited and cheerful. Her eyes sparkled with excitement. Yet somehow she seemed mature for her young age. Láska listened intently has she explained that where they were now is the Threshold, and how newcomers are either claimed, or made outcasts. That means that there must be herds around here she thought to herself. Suddenly, she heard the breaking of twigs, and snapped her head around; ears pricked. A white stallion walked towards them. As he came closer, she tensed her muscles, instinct screaming at her to flee. Every voice inside her told her to run. Yet she forced herself to stay. He didn't look threatening, and a friendly smile lit up his face.

She looked at the ground nervously as he introduced himself as Arrane, saying that he came from somewhere called the Foothills. His voice ringed with confidence, and she could tell that he knew his way around here very well. Then she looked up with surprise as he offered both her and Abishia a home. She closed her eyes momentarily, remembering her herd back home, and home it had fallen apart.
But this isn't home she reminded herself. Perhaps it would do her good to live in a herd again, have others to talk to, instead of traveling alone with only her own voice echoing inside her head. Abishia's clear, soft voice brought her back to the present. She listened as she introduced herself.

My friend Láska here is a newcomer. If she chooses to go with you I would like to tag along to experience what the Foothills are like, if it is alright with you Arrane.

She felt her heart beat a little harder. This was her decision to make. She needed to make up her mind. Part of her was scared out of her wits. Yet the other part, wanted to get to know this beautiful land better. She needed a home.

Hello Arrane, it is nice to meet you She dipped her head respectively. yes I would love to go with Abisha and you to the Foothills. I am in need of a home, and would have been lost without both of you. I will be of any help I can to the herd She looked over catching Abishia's eye and smiled.

Melodious tones of the tender girl glided into the chilly air, music to the stallion's ears. The bay and white lass was seemingly innocent, someone in need of protection. Gallantly, Arrane wished to help those that needed aid, and he sensed someone of her age should not be wandering through merciless lands. With a gentle nod and another kindred grin, he took his turn to speak to the dainty filly. "A pleasure Abishia", warm eyes took in her image as he continued talking. "It is my duty and contentment helping those in need...especially those without permanent homes", quieting down, and shifting his head towards the mare, Laska, and glanced at the ebony lady.

"It would be an honor to escort you both back. You can experience the Foothills for yourself, Abishia. I hope you will find a refuge, and consider those horses...your family", with an upwards gander, Arrane thought about those he loves, and the haven he swore to protect. In the recesses of his heart, he truly hoped Abishia would grow to love the rolling hills of luscious grass and compassionate souls.

He enjoyed the giggles and excitement the mares shared. Laska wanted to come back to the Foothills with him. That meant Abishia would follow the stallion back. "Your presence is enough help to the herd. Anyone is welcome to the herd, and I'm glad I have found you two", sincerely speaking, he dipped his head waiting for them to reject his offer, maybe any last minute mind changes.

The girl was happy that she had found Laska, and quite thrilled to meet Arrane also. The Stallion was kind, his face lighted up with a friendly smile and his pools light and kind. Ones orbs are a window to the soul; the first thing to be observed for you can tell if either the being has good intentions or not. This Stallion portrayed a good soul, and Antie agreed, her ghostly figure nodding and smiling next to her. Antie was pleased, and whispered something that the filly didn't catch, but Abi didn't mind. She simply smiled and laughed, her heart light with joy.

She listened closely to the conversation that she was, thankfully, involved in. When Laska had finished speaking, she had looked at Abishia and giggled; a new friend. Abishia nudged Laska softly with her muzzle, a friendly gesture. Now, the tables turned and Arrane was speaking, seeming quite joyous that Laska had accepted his offer. Maybe the filly would find a hoe in the Foothills. In quiet lonely times, Antie had informed her of all the herds, and what they are like. Antie had told Abi that the Foothills had one of the most active and loving herds, pretty close to one another, and many considered them a family.

Abishia was happy to hear that she would be welcomed with open arms, and threw Arrane a glamorous smile. She thought of Harmony; her sorrel and white mother would take a liking to this Stallion, probably fall for him. Maybe that would be a good thing, to Abishia, it sounded great, but Harmony would most likely think different. Abi smiled and giggled, starting to speak, her thick accent pleasant to the harks.

" Arrane, I am thrilled to be following you to your home. I have heard great things about the Foothills, and I'm excited to experience your homeland. "

She turned to Laska, giggling.

" Your going to have a great home Laska!"

Laska took a deep breath of the cool air. So much had happened in the past few minutes. She could feel herself relaxing and becoming less and less nervous around Arrane. He was very respectful, and kind. And if Abishia trusted him, then she knew that she could to. Abishia! She felt a smile spread across her face as the little filly nudged her softly with her muzzle. She then nickered softly at the little girl, and nudged her back playfully. She finally would have others to talk to! What's more, she had found friends! A few months ago, she would never have believed this would be possible!
"It would be an honor to escort you both back. You can experience the Foothills for yourself, Abishia. I hope you will find a refuge, and consider those horses...your family"

As Arrane spoke, she listened intently, catching his every word. She wanted to learn as much as she could. She felt her stomach jump with both excitement and nervousness. She hoped she would act right. She hadn't been part of a herd for a long time. She wasn't familiar with this land yet. Yet she had a feeling that this was the best decision she could make. She would finally have a home after a year of traveling! She heard Abishia thank Arrane, then she told Laska that she would have a great home.

Yes, thank you Arrane for offering to show us your homeland. This is such a beautiful place and I can't wait to see and learn more about the Foothills. I am very grateful She smiled at him and Abishia. She was finally not alone anymore.
