 Just as her mouth clamps around a sprig of blue fern she can feel a cold wind rush into the Meadows. Her head springs upright, ears leaning forward and her nostrils flaring and quivering. Every sense teems with anxiety now and her blood is beginning to shake in her veins. Her tail tosses and she moves toward the noise, poking her head from the thicket she has found herself in. She sees Lena and some creature – her eyes squint and she muffles her gasp. She has met that creature before…that was Kahlua; and she looked nothing like that the last time Tang laid eyes on her. She was a beautiful black and white mare – now she is a monster, a monster that is staring down Lena. They exchange words but Tang can hear none of it until… “RUN!” And Tangere does not hesitate… Guilt will set in later, but for now she rushes home to the mountains to tell Illynx of what she’s seen at the Beaches and now at the Meadows – whatever it is might have killed Lena or Nao or both by the time she finds her clan again… She runs tirelessly toward the Basin, sweat webs across her athletic frame as she spins tightly around corners, bounds over obstacles and ducks beneath hanging branches effortlessly. For now she cannot be stopped but she is highly unaware of what the future holds for her. For the next few days and perhaps weeks, maybe even months, she will endure hell. She will not move with ease anymore and she will not be greeted with safety when she reaches her home.
