The next passing minutes trickled by without the Haruspex's note; she did not remember plunging into the morning light after Deimos, nor finding her daughter perusing her usual patch of flowers by the lake. The only things she remembered were the frantic beating of her heart, the endless thrum of her hooves and the feverish thoughts which flaunted through her head like bats at dusk. Huyana could not escape from this coming peril; she was a mother, she was a seer—she could not abandon all she held dear, not now. With Lothíriel in tow, the roan made her way to Deimos, who stood before the kingdom like the lord he was, tall and dark and solemn, a gathering crowd of concern unicorns surrounding him. On quiet feet, the rainmare and her daughter edged into the crowd, finding themselves near a lanky roan girl and her companion, a curious and delicate creature. A strained smile was offered by the Haruspex, but the girl seemed to recognize her, and gave her a grin with a little more substance.

They had parted with nothing more than words exchanged in the darkness; she had watched him disappear through the threshold of her seer's home. Disquiet had settled in the back of her throat like bile, so she stole into the morning light, the sun's warmth flooding onto her back; she wondered when it would betray them again, that disloyal star.

Huyana barely heard his words over the near-frantic whirring of her thoughts. With affirmative gentleness, she nudged Lothíriel closer to her chest, as if she was still a mere babe. Met with a little resistance, the girl soon grew still as she listened attentively to her sire. Fear made the child's silver-lined back tense, and she nestled closer to her mother's chest. "Why?" She wondered in a small, quavering voice which shook Huyana to the very core. The sheer thought of losing her daughter, her family, made the mare's gut twist: she would fight, if it was necessary. No longer was she the lonely scholar, a droplet lost in a world full of oceans: she was a mother, a seer, with everything to lose; she would die, if necessary, to protect the interests of her child, her home.

When Deimos turned down the path out, Huyana bent her head to nudge the girl forward, who followed her father blindly on trembling feet. "Where are we going?" she wondered; her mother could give no reply, and instead laid a solemn nose on the filly's pale shoulder.
