It was an odd day indeed that saw creatures of the sky do battle with each other underground, but these were odd times. Just as Meg had found a home and a family to call her own, it had been threatened. She’d not even been able to meet every member of Dragon’s Throat before they had been uprooted by the spreading darkness. In the weeks that followed the move to the caves, Megaera, always a restless young mare had grown downright frustrated. She wanted to fight this new threat head on, not hide in the caves, but these creatures could not be beaten by strength or speed. She had tried to exercise her black mood out, but even regular patrols and shifts at the Sanctuary’s entrance had done little to help. She needed to hit something and thanks be to the Sun God that Hector had offered to spar. Her dark hooves clapped along the stony ground as she made her way through the series of caves and into the chamber. Hector was easy to spot in the dim room, with the flames that shimmered in his mane and tail. “Well met, Hector.” Her low voice echoed slightly through the cavern as her head dipped in a respectful nod. She said nothing else, and stopped several strides away from the stallion. Remember Meg, it’s just a spar. she had to remind herself. She’d never actually fought one on one before; her devilish brothers had always ganged up on her, four stallions for a single filly. Hector dwarfed them all, but even so, this would be a very different fight from what she was used to.
