"Who are you talking to?" A quiet voice cut through the stillness and shattered whatever illusion of solitude the mare had been clinging to. It was little more than a murmur, drowsy and rough as though the owner had just woken up from a deep sleep - which he also had, albeit not a very pleasant one. He had been dreaming, vivid sceneries filled with horrific detail, part memory, part vision and stirred with all the imagination a young child could muster. Truth be told, Kari was relieved to see that the creature that had woken him up with the sound of hooves against rock was an actual person - and then she could wear whatever she liked. He stirred where he lay in the corner of the room, the slender frame unfurling as spindly legs undid the elegant knot they once tied themselves into and raised him up on his feet; unsteadily at first but gradually growing more balanced as sleep was blinked away from the eyes. Kari yawned and stretched, leg after leg, wing after wing before finally, with a lazy flick of the long tail he came padding across the floor to join Africa by the wall. His vivid blue gaze moved from the cloaked mare, taking in her dappled gray coat and the missing wing, over to the wall where figures moved in intricate patterns across the rocky surface; he could tell that a story was unfolding, but with no name for any of the painted persons its content was lost on the boy. "Did you make these?" he asked, in the usual manner of inquisitive foals; never asking just one question at a time, as their curiosity didn't leave neither room nor time for the elders to actually answer. | ||
