Some how he had been left out from the mass evacuation of his pack, or was it his heard? He was so confused. The poor little scrap of black fur had been hiding for weeks, the cold had been getting worse wearing at his tiny body. The snow was growing thicker on the ground. Lucky for him his hunting skills his mother had taught him did not run from his memory. he had been eating, but his will to live alone was wearing him down killing his body slowly. Teras's bright golden eyes searched for any sign of life, and he was not disappointed. Yipping in his excitement as he sniffed at the hoof marks in the snow. The growing wolf pup started following the tracks towards a dark cave.

The black and purple wolf pup paused only for a moment before trotting inside the cave. Sniffing excitedly he bounded around drawing in all the magnificent equine scent. He pricked his ears and sat down gazing into the depths of the cave curiosity burning in his belly. He didn't want to wonder into someone else's territory without being allowed, so here he would wait until he was told he could come in. His thickening pelt was helping to keep him warm, but he could not help the shiver that racked his body. He was no larger than a full grown border collie, but he had found that he really scared the horses that lived around here. Once again he heard his mothers voice telling him to never ever hunt horses or to stray to this land he had been brought too.

Dark twisted fantasy turned to reality

Cloven hooves click quietly on stone as the ghoul emerges from the dark cave. He knows that outside is not safe, has been warned by the rain, hears the whispers of the others, but he doesn't heed them. It is too crowded inside, filled with countless horses, almost all strangers, and he must escape, even if only for a little while. He will stay close, he promises himself, so he may bolt back to safety, flee once more into the depths of the caverns. It is too cold to go exploring anyway, snow coating the earth in an alabaster cloak and painting the sky grey.

A figure catches his eye, tiny and black, lurking in the entryway. He spooks, skittering away from the dark form before thoughts of monsters invade his mind. A shadow, he thinks afterwards, daring to step forward again. Harmless, Mum said, He looks closer at the canine, trying to make out any features against the dark backdrop of rock. Finally, he recognizes the shape of the boy, gaze tracing over the pointed muzzle, noticing paws and a bushy tail. A wolf, shaped from darkness, an odd purple marking upon the pup's face. More curious than afraid, the rot-colored unicorn approaches, recalling every tale of wolves he has ever heard, mind whispering of great beasts who stalk the woods, hunting for sweet fillies to eat. This is a baby monster, he decides, and he knows all to well what happens to monsters, even the young ones.

Surely this babe has a mother, though? A terrifying creature, all sharp teeth and bristling fur, ready to leap forward and defend her child. Yet, he smells no other, sees no skulking shapes, hears no rasping breath. What had happened to her? Had this one's mother been killed, destroyed by those who thought themselves heroes? The stallion's brow furrows with confusion and concern. The wolfling is too small to defend himself against the masses who reside in the cave, but clearly cannot continue living outside by himself. Perhaps he is looking for a home, just as the ghoul is?

After a moment of deliberation, he reaches out his muzzle to the pup, a tentative offer of friendship, trusting that his tender nose will not be punished for his foolishness. After all, monsters don't fight each other.

And all I ever wanted...

Another soft set of clicking hooves rattled echoes throughout the cave entrance as the chocolate and white iced stallion climbed anxiously out of the darkness. How he hated it in there, too many strange faces and he was unable to see the sky. He couldn't understand how the other residents in that cave could tolerate being unable to see the sky? No stars at night to occupy your mind with stories of the past, no magical sunrises or sunsets that burst in a array of fruity orange and purple colors. Maybe he was just a simpleton.

Otz paused as he exhaled to see a puff of his breath cloud his vision ahead, it had gotten so cold over night? He was met with a chilling breath of air as the winter cold infiltrated the cave opening. He'd become far too use to the hotter air trapped inside the cave from Helovia's Heart which heated the cave to summer temperatures.
But a cold breeze carrying a cluster of snow whisked its way into the cave sprinkling snow onto the surface of the rocks at his feet. Oh boy.

Ahead he saw a figure contrasting against the light that cloaked the cave entrance, it was yet another stranger. Perhaps someone else was growing tired of the cave as well. Otz began a path around the stranger, figuring the man probably wanted some space. Otz gave the stranger another glance, one of those fleeting looks to get a quick scan of the stranger's anatomy and hoping the stranger wasn't looking back at him. But he was forced to double-take when he noticed the stranger bent down caressing a smaller form. Otz froze and danced to turn towards the pair, he recognized the small form immediately. It was a wolf. Years of fighting instinct flared up in Otz's head like a war veteran's worst nightmare and he kicked into action jolting towards the pair in a fury of anger and power. He didn't stop to ask questions, experience told him he didn't have to. When wolves plagued his home once long ago there was no need to ask questions, it was simply kill it on sight. "AWAY FROM THAT, BOY! IT'S A WOLF!" Otz hollered out to the curious unicorn and skid to a stop near the sitting wolf pup, his neck arched as he aimed his horn preparing to deliver a fatal stab to the pup's side.

'It sure is hard wait for someone to come along...' He thought as his golden orbs gazed longingly into the shadows before him. He was shivering despite his warm pelt. The cave floor was like sitting on ice, he was sure his little rump would be stick to the ground. Just in case this might happen he shifted scouting to the right a little so he wouldn't be stuck to the ground. The sudden sound of hooves made his triangular ears prick up in excitement. His tail was setting an unsteady rhythm on the unforgiving stone floor. He watched as the figure drew clearer, and he was sure he could see better than the odd horse coming his direction. The floating lanterns that were his eyes took in the sharp twisted horn the odd vine like tail and cloven goat hooves. His tail gave one last twitch before stopping. The pup was unsure, he was so weird, so different from the two normal horses he had met before. he fought his fear struggling to keep his hackles lowered.

His nerves are put at ease as the male seems to spaz and slip on the stone causing Teras to fight with his wolf cub giggles. He was always bursting out in giggles at the wrong time. 'Mother always said I would outgrow them, and I sure hope she was right.' He thought as the bubbles of laughter have stopped. he watches closely head cocky to the right as the horned creature approaches, subconsciously his muscles tense, ready to fight or run. He remembered suddenly Kahlua and Res being terrified of him until he had spoken, but this one said nothing. he was surely odd, maybe even slow, but Teras was to young and naive to know such a thing. As the stallion lowers his head towards his own he can't help but reach back towards him nose quivering.

He could hear the sounds of more hoof beats heading his way, but he was concentrating to hard on sniffing the horned horse's nose to notice them. The scream was of rage and made Teras bound to his feet, but his paws were to large and clumsy for such a move and he toppled head over stupid massive paws. When he looked up he felt dazed and confused, but that didn't last long as he focused on the horn inches away from his young body. He yelped in alarm trying to scramble away his squeaky voice was even higher pitched with terror, "Please don't hurt me sir! I mean no harm to anyone!" He whimpered loudly trying to held in his tears, but he was so weak mentally from being alone for so long, that tears rolled down his black and purple cheeks.

The pup tenses as he draws near, perhaps nervous, but once the ghoul has his nose low enough, the young creature stretches forward to meet it, sniffing at the unicorn's muzzle. Slaiter smiles, thinking that perhaps he has found a friend, but the sharp clatter of hooves and a shouted warning cause his head to snap up, staring wide-eyed at the striped unicorn. He wants to yell right back, declare that of course he knows this is a wolf, he's not stupid, but the words die in his throat as the stranger rushes up, seemingly intent on killing the child. Said boy is trying to scuttle away from the threat, but is clumsy with terror, begging to be spared as tears stream from his eyes.

Rage floods the monster's system, coward heart buried beneath waves of red anger. Without even stopping to consider his actions, he charges, aiming to slam into the stranger's shoulder or side, horn slashing toward his would-be rescuer's neck, perhaps even grazing his face, should he not move away. There is no way to justify this random attack on a babe, a harmless puppy who showed absolutely no signs of hostility, only fear.

He must stop this oddly short unicorn, keep him away from the young canine, either by force or by reason. If only others would think, would listen and see before flying into a blind, panicked rage. Yes, Slaiter and the wolf are different, are not right, but why are they hated? The ghoul's mind churns with questions, even as he attempts to position himself firmly between the knight and whelp, so hyped up on adrenaline that he doesn't even know if he had hit the attacker, knowing only that he must protect the pup, defend him from senseless creatures like this one.

He only wishes that someone had done the same for him, once upon a time ago.

And all I ever wanted...

Otz seemed to be stuck in time for every second that passed with him poised and ready to deliver the fatal stab, but his action was cut short. His eyes shifted from the pup to the unicorn as a paralyzing shadow fell over Otz's smaller form. He wasn't quick enough to react to the force that slammed him shoulder to shoulder, knocking him to the side. His hooves dancing to recover from the stumble, he'd skittered to the side just quick enough to avoid the unicorn's slicing horn which FOOSHED as it barely missed him. Otz steps back and chokes on his thoughts, what in the world is going on here?? He looked from the wolf, to the unicorn, back to the wolf, and then back to the unicorn.
But in the end he was left speechless, there has to be an explanation for this. Is he blind perhaps? Otz looked to the wolf pup again, he could see the tears that streamed down the pup's cheeks, but he felt nothing. This wolf is merely an object, a pest only fit to be destroyed. Otz finally pushed some words from his throat, but he could only manage few, "What are you doing, boy? Do you not see what it is you defend?!" The boy was raised by wolves? No that's stupid. He fell on his head as a foal? That had to be it, only the plaguing grips of cancer or brain trauma could possibly cause any horse to accept a predator as a friend.

Persistantly Otz stepped forward, though cautiously as he noticed the giant was still in a frantic rage. "Stand aside, it's alright. I will take care of things, you need to sit, you are not well." Otz tried to calm the pale unicorn with cool, soothing words as Otz stepped towards him. He gave the unicorn a gentle nudge with his muzzle hoping to coax the uni aside so that he may finish the wolf off.

Whimpering pitifully his ebony body shaking against the stone floor he stared up at his attack eyes large as the harvest moon. He wondered briefly if this is what his prey like before they became his meal. He suddenly wished with all his heart he didn't have to eat meat. As the horned stallion that had touched his nose, so curiously, rammed into the attacking male he stopped crying. Shaking still he stood up watching the pair tussle for a moment the attackers eyes darting between them. Clearly he was confused, but the ebony pup stood still watching intently; muscles prime to run.

He spoke up after the attackers words stroked his hunters ears. His voice was still squeaky, but he the fear was gone, "I am Tears I was brought here against my will. I will not be attacked again without fighting back. I will not do harm unless I am provoked." He paused lamp like eyes gazing harshly at the horned killer. His body swelled with pride as he continued, "I am a hunter, but not a horse killer. But I will NOT allow you to kill me for no reason."

His block like head lowered as a thunderous growl erupted from his thick chest. This was a glimpse of the formidable adult this clumsy pup would grow into. He let his puppy teeth flash in the gloom as his menacing hackles rose from his scruff. Stiff angry pillars were set in motion as the much smaller murderous horned stallion touched his defender. His gaze and posture almost daring the smaller to touch his friend again.

Dark twisted fantasy turned to reality

He has surprised this striped creature, he thinks, watching with wary amusement as the stallion switches his gaze between the pup and the ghoul. Were he thinking clearly, he would be equally amazed at his reckless behavior, but he is still enraged, brain knowing nothing besides the need to stand between the wolf and its would-be killer. He does not even process the queries directed his way by the stranger, simply hearing a meaningless jumble of sounds. Worthless, unrepentant, and so he does not respond except to begin lashing his thick tail, broadcasting his agitation.

The whelp speaks up then, and Slaiter allows his ears to raise slightly in order to hear him more clearly. The words still don't mean much, for he is far too crazed to pay much attention, but the tone is bold. Of course, he supposes he would also feel quite brave with a giant standing guard, and is proud when the pup is confident enough to snarl at the attacker. With the two of them, he believes they could overwhelm the midget hero, make him leave, bite and tear at his flesh until the only choices are flee or die.

The idea appeals to the oft-bullied monster.

And so, he is not appeased when Otz moves closer, ignores the comforting words, and goes so far as to snap at the other male when he is touched, thinking to bite down on his neck, though he does not make a very serious attempt, the motions more for display than an attack. He does not budge either, defiantly planting his hooves more firmly in place. He will protect this puppy even if it kills him. Well, maybe he won't go that far. After all, he could always take the young one and run first.

And all I ever wanted...

Otz could hear the pup's words, oh he heard them clearly. And he laughed internally as the pup first put on an act of pity, then the pup claimed he wasn't a horse killer while threatening to destroy Otz, and then further proved Otz's beliefs by putting on an act of aggression. Otz rolled his eyes at the pup, he didn't fear wolves, especially pups. Wolves kill prey that panics and they use numbers to do it. Otz is not in a panic, and this wolf is too small to cause him too much harm. Otz simply did not fear the pup.

The stallion guarding the pup on the other hand. His silence and actions to defend the pup did not go unnoticed, and Otz displayed the deepest emotion of betrayal and pity from the stud.
Has Otz really traveled that far from home? Entered a culture where wolves are casual companions? Or maybe this stallion is a corrupted product of the darkness the residents here are speaking of. Whatever the case, Otz is left completely unsure of what to do. When every fiber in his body screams for him to kill the wolf, and yet... Otz finds himself in more pain from the cultural shock than anything he could think these two creatures could do to him. This stallion, his honor, his family's honor. Washed down the drain.
Otz stands there, his lips tight with disappointment as a frown tugged at his cheeks. "Shame on you. You bring dishonor to your family, you bastard!" Otz screamed and reared up, his muscles tense with ferocity. He wondered if killing them both may be the better option. Destroy the pest and end the confused stallion's suffering. His ears pinned, Otz arched his neck again as he stared the stallion and wolf down. He waited, he offered himself up as an opponent to the stallion, and waited. Poised to strike.
