Note & Sabel

@[Cheveyo]
hehe

--

There had been very few moments in Note's life in which he was alone for a long period of time. To add this week to that list was maddening. He desperately wanted to find Cheveyo, the painted acquaintance that had run into him a week ago. She left a nasty bruise on his side and given him a sore leg, but it was better than having no contact with others at all. Note had even ventured back to the place where their first, and by the looks of it last, encounter had been in hopes of possibly running into her once again. Note had had no success in finding her there.
The stallion was much more understanding of those with companions. In Note's socially-lacking life, Sabel was there to run into a rock. Her actions were amusing to Note, but only to an extent. After about a hundred times of her tripping over rocks just to get Note out of his thoughts, it got old.
The bonded pair were wandering the caverns, Sabel occasionally leading the way just to fall over a rock, as she was doing in this moment.
'Could you not? Do you just like the way cave floor tastes? In case you haven't noticed, Sabel, your material is seriously lacking actual humor,' Note spoke through the bond, flicking an ear to the lynx. Her head was driven into the cavern's rocky surface, tail-end facing the sky. She picked herself up at his words, shooting him an icy, sightless glare. 'There no much else I can do! You have no interest in me or anything else unless I'm tripping over rocks!' Sabel hissed, sitting down with her back to Note.
The stallion disregarded the lynx, he had better folks to spend his time with. Well, actually, he didn't. But he would find some.
Note walked further and further into the caves until he could barely see in front of himself. Perhaps this is what the world looks like to Sabel. The lynx had grudgingly followed in his steps, pausing when they stepped into the new part of the cave.
'This place large, too large. Ride?' Sabel practically begged, slipping in between Note's legs. She seemed almost desperate for him. The stallion stopped walking, rolled his eyes, and got to his knees, the lynx skittering out of the way so she wouldn't be crushed. The blind cat eagerly spread herself out on Note's back, entwining one of her paws in his nappy mane.
The stallion stood, irritated by the extra weight Sabel applied. The lynx used to spend most of her time on his withers, now it was a bit of work to even let her lounge upon his back.
Note looked around, the dark adding to the inconvenience of the situation. The stallion slightly spread his large hawk wings, closing his eyes as flames sprouted from the appendages and lit up the cave. To his surprise, the cavern was pretty large. The ceiling hung far above their heads, a strange sensation compared to the seemingly squished up caverns leading to this one.
But who would come somewhere they could not see without flaming wings? No one. Note could be totally alone with Sabel. It was the opposite of what he needed, but was exactly what he had tricked himself into wanting.

The lady warrior didn't remember much about her parents. She had never met her father, just merely knew that he was a sperm donor...chosen for his speed and strength on the battle fields. There was no love in the relationship between her sire and dam, the breeding was a business move and not some kind of raw animalistic thing that many called love. Then there was her mother, she remembered her slightly, the image of her firey painted frame was foggy like the mornings by the waters. Cheveyo knew that he mother cared for her deeply, but when the time came for her training to begin the chestnut mare had given up her child willingly.
Occasionally the warrior painted with many colors wondered what her life would have been like if she had grown up with two doting parents. If she hadn't been weaned at such a young age to be able to begin the training that shaped her into who she was today, but most of this wondering was pushed aside fairly quickly as Cheveyo knew better than to wallow in the past. There was no point in mulling over what may have happened rather than looking forward to what the gods had in store for her future. Sighing the mare's chestnut harks swiveled slightly as she listened to the noise that the masses of bodies in the Sanctuary created, a light smile tugging at the corner of her soft pink kissers as she tuned out the ruckus and focused instead on the sound of her own peachy daggers hitting the stone ground beneath her.
The gentle echoing of the sound created by being alone for once was relaxing, and even though her muscles were contracting and relaxing as she was moving herself forward through the tunnels that would bring her to the place she had literally ran into the bay stallion with the flaming wings, but she would keep walking and Cheveyo could feel the stress and the headache slowly fading away into the comforting darkness. She wasn't entirely sure where she was headed through the dark tunnels once more, she wasn't even sure what her purpose was for wandering around there were better things she could be filling her time with. Or better yet, she could be doing her job and standing at the entrance, but as of late it seemed people were growing tired of seeing her oddly painted frame standing guard. Snorting softly the mare shook her skull, that was fine. She was growing quite tired of seeing the idiots anyway.
Being alone was much better.
The sweet isolation of being able to hear her own thoughts and her own hooves beat against the ground.
Everything about it was perfect.
Except for the fact that she could still feel the strange tingling sensation that the bay's flaming wings had left her with. Still feel the lynx's paw pressed against her leg as if she was being accepted into some kind of secret group. If she were to somehow bump into the stallion again, not literally this time, her day would be entirely made. Shaking her skull slightly the mare pushed all of the foolish thoughts from her mind. There was no way to tell if he would even want to see her again, he had nearly ran out of the Wall of History after she touched him. Focusing her pink pools forward the mare discovered that she infact had gotten herself lost in the midst of the thoughts of happiness flickering through her mind. It was unnerving how dark the air surrounding her was and a moment of panic flashed through her being as she could almost feel her lungs growing smaller with anxiety. Taking as deep of a breath as she could the mare forced her ivory dipped limbs forward, continuing down the tunnel into the darkness when suddenly a comforting orange-ish glow lit up about ten paces in front of her.
Pushing the fear to the backburners the lady warrior strode out into an extended trot that was oddly floaty for her build. Growing closer and closer to the light that she assumed was a fire of sorts, hope flickered deep in her belly that it might be the dusty stallion she yearned to see. As she reached the final few steps the mare slowed into and easy walk and her tongue clicked against the roof of her mouth in her usual nervous tick. Someone was in there, she could hear the shuffle of beings just unsure of what it was that was making the noises. The walls gave away to the light and it took a moment or two before her pupils would readjust themselves and she could see in the sudden light.
But once they did, Cheveyo couldn't fight the smile that pulled at the corners of her soft pink kissers as her eyes rested upon the slightly taller bay who's feline companion was resting on his back. "Hello there." Flicking her harks forward the mare's body language changed entirely as her normally cracked and underused lyrics purred out almost unnaturally.

Note & Sabel

@[Cheveyo]
x3

--

Sabel heard her first. The lynx flicked an ear backwards to acknowledge the presence of a new horse. 'Someone's coming,' she spoke through the bond. Note turned his head to the cat, giving her a confused look. 'And how do you know this?' Note snapped, his flaming wings flaring at the words, green gaze maddening. Very few times in the year he had spent with Sabel had the cat been good company. Why did he have to get stuck with a companion who was his total opposite? She couldn't even fly.
'I've got good hearing,' Sabel smirked as Note began to hear the soft hoofbeats as well. He turned his head back to the front of his body, anticipation replacing his angered emotions. A fellow equine in the one place he had searched for peace and loneliness. He hoped that it wouldn't be the beast by the name of Gaucho, or petite Sohalia. There were only so many places he could run to from here.
Maybe it would be the slightly smaller paint, Cheveyo. She had seemed all too kind, the dusty bay found himself often yearning for her soft touch to graze his body one more time.
The stallion didn't particularly care to find out who this being was, regardless of how badly he wanted contact with a being besides Sabel. Note reluctantly moved forward, keeping his ears forward. He had to stay on task, stay away from any other horses.
The hoofbeats behind the stallion turned into a walk as a gentle "Hello there," poured from the lips of the horse behind him. Note recognized the voice immediately. Panic set in automatically. 'I'm just going to give her a small smile, then walk away, just walk away,' Note told himself as he turned his head sideways to look at the mare. She looked just as enthralling as the last time he saw her, if not more considering she wasn't running into him.
The stallion stopped, his sharp gaze softening at the sight of the painted mare. He gave her a smile before turning completely around to face Cheveyo. "Hey, how've you been?" Note spoke in the kindest way he could manage, eyes raking up and down her body before settling on her own pink orbs. His feathers lit up as he gazed upon the mare, wings tingling as they remembered the soft touch they were once given by this mare's rosy muzzle.
'What happened walking away?' Sabel purred through the bond, amused by Note's sudden change of mind. She sat up to give the mare a cat-like grin and a welcoming nod. The dusty bay ignored the lynx, for he had a much more spectacular being to focus his attention on. He had told himself he was going to smile and walk away, that much was true, but Cheveyo looked so much nicer when she wasn't running into him. It wouldn't hurt to stay for a few minutes..

The lady warrior fought the excitement and flicker of hope that had began to grow inside her as she grew closer to the entrance to what had been a pitch black room. The orangey glow was comforting and reminded her of someone she had been aching to see for the past couple of days. Cheveyo was slightly disoriented by her strong desire to see the dusty bay stallion and his feline companion, their meeting had been short. But long enough to leave enough of an impact on the six year old to make her yearn to see him and his flaming appendages again.
Shaking her skull slightly the mare slowed her pace enough that if he were to happen to be there, she wouldn't ram into his side like their first encounter. That touch hadn't been the one that sent her into a flurry of feelings that she wasn't used too, it was strange to want to be in the company of someone. To desire the feeling of your flesh grazing against each other, it was unnerving and Cheveyo didn't quite know what to do. All she could do was hope she didn't make some kind of fool of herself again if it were Note. Taking a deep breath as her ivory dipped limbs moved forward and into the orange glow, a smile crossing her rosy kissers as the orchid pools landed on the familiar frame of the stallion.
Taking a few strides closer to him her harks swiveled around in efforts to catch onto his deep alluring lyrics instead of the annoying sound of her own words echoing back to her. "Hey, how've you been?" The way his words struck at her eardrums gently as her mind drifted back to their first meeting and that strange feeling she had gotten when her maw was against his flaming wings.
Blinking her long white lashes quickly over her flower hued orbs once or twice the mare then noticed the movement coming from Note's back as the lynx popped up to offer Cheveyo a grin. At least she had the approval of the stallion's companion, that was a big deal. Flashing the feline a quick, warm smile the mare turned her attention back to the stallion who's emeralds were just at that time landing back on her own facade, clicking her tongue against the roof of her mouth once her rosy kissers then part to allow a fresh string of lyrics loose into the area. "I've been well. Ready to get out of these rabbit tunnels." A light and airy laugh slid from the mare's lungs as she looked away from the stallion for a moment to look around the illuminated room. It was so much larger than any of the other rooms in the caverns that it was nearly awe-striking. The ceilings were high enough that the painted warrior was shocked their weren't more of the winged species in here flying around and stretching their extra appendages. Allowing her pools to drift back down to where the flaming bay was standing she spoke once more. "How have you been?"

Note & Sabel

@[Cheveyo]

--

The dusty bay stallion had always felt as if he were an independent being. Normally, he did not long for the company of others. Lately, Note had been shown a side of these equines that made him hate and fear, yet desire them so much more. It was an odd thought, a contradicting one, but no two people are the same. He had found that it's considerably easier to love some beings than others. Depressing, really. There are few reasons to act out in hatred and violence when one could so effortlessly pour that much devotion into performing a deed of kindness.
'As if you're actually kind,' Sabel mocked, claws kneading on Note's faded coat. 'I may not be the nicest being to spend time with, but at least I'm not shamelessly taking lives and killing dreams,' the stallion replied in an emotionless tone through the bond, leaving the conversation at that.
"I've been well. Ready to get out of these rabbit tunnels." Cheveyo spoke, a lighthearted laugh pouring from her rosy lips. Note did the same, turning his head to the side to peer at his flaming wings. He stretched the appendages without pulling them to their full span. It felt nice, for he rarely got the chance to do so anymore.
"Tell me about it," Note murmured sarcastically, barely loud enough for anyone to hear, though a smirk marked his features. He turned back once again to gaze at the painted mare. She was fantastic, to say the least. Seeing her illuminated only by his fire was a strange sensation to the stallion. If his concentration waned from the magic, they would be consumed by the dark, morphing to mere flailing bodies in the midst of sightlessness.
Cheveyo had taken her gaze to the ceiling. In that brief moment, Note continued to study the mare more thoroughly than ever before. He tried to memorize every scar that marked her coat, how her muscles rippled beneath her skin, the way her pink orbs shone in the light of his fire. He took in every imperfectly perfect property that created this mare.
Once the mare returned her stare to his, a familiar question fell from her lips.

"How have you been?"

A touchy subject. Note's smile faltered for a moment, his sharp green gaze dulling as if they weren't focusing. A weight latched onto his heart, what was left of it anyways, and together they sunk. The feeling made the stallion nauseous, a reminder of the events prior to this pair's meeting.
How could Note phrase the fact that he had slowly been going insane due to a heartbreak, yet still keep the conversation in a positive mood?
The answer: he couldn't.
"Fine," the stallion spoke, his voice cracking and filled with despair as the word tumbled from his ashen lips. Panic, he was panicking again. He shifted uneasily upon his hooves, eyes averting from the mare before him. Lies are not so easily told by the honest.

Love was such an odd concept. The idea of trusting another being with everything you had. All of your secrets, everything you hold near and dear being shared with someone who could very well walk out on you without a second glance. The whole idea of the notion was nerve wrecking and Cheveyo couldn't be happier to honestly say she had never loved another equine. Of course, she loved Kwahu with everything she had, but his death had left her lost and alone with only the training he had spent endless hours teaching her in order for her to survive.
Blinking long ivory lashes over orchid pools a time or two to be sure that there would be no tears welling at the brims of her lids before looking at the lynx standing on the stallion's back with a crazy grin plastered across it's feline features. Looking at the creature, Cheveyo couldn't help but allow a smile of her own to settle on her rosy kissers, the lynx and her bonded were so very different in their expressions it was quite hilarious to see such a happy-go-lucky companion with a much more sullen equine. But she supposed that was the whole point of having a companion, to give you that taste of life that otherwise your personality wouldn't allow you to have. She suspected her companion would be quite like the lynx, but very...very mannered.
The stallion's movement caught Chev's attention and drew it away from the feline and just in time as she caught his smoky kissers moving as if he was speaking again but she couldn't quite catch onto what exactly he was staying even with her chestnut harks strained forwards. As his lips ceased to move the mare allowed her harks to relax once more, dissapointed that her sense of hearing wasn't quite strong enough to cling onto the words that the stallion had allowed into the air. Sighing softly the mare allowed her pinked orbs to drift up to the ceiling where she stared in awe of the wonders that Mother Earth hid beneath the crust of her wonderful creations. It was astounding what treasures the earth held and one day she hoped to see the rest of the wonders that her Helovia had to share. As she was inwardly gawking at the amazing structure she found herself standing in with the handsome green eyed stallion, she felt as if something or someone was watching her.
Lowering her skull the mare's orchid orbs caught the gaze of the emerald pools to which she offered a smile. It was strange to think that he had been looking at her; did she have some kind of strange deformity that she hadn't been made aware of until now? Was she really that ugly that he felt the need to stare? Cheveyo knew she didn't care for her pelt and her tresses as many other mares did, but she wasn't here to be pretty and some kind of poster child for a herd. She was raised to be a fighter and a fighter she would be. But as her copycat question fell from her velvets she instantaneously regretted it as the light quickly left the stallion's eyes as the smile fell from his kissers. "Fine." Note's short response left her wondering more. But she didn't think now was the time to be asking any kind of personal questions, they hardly knew each other. Just the brief meeting in which he practically had ran out on her...not that she blamed him after she ran into him so rudely. And then now, with the few words that had been exchanged she was already on the fast track to fucking it up.
As the bay fidgetted around on his hooves Cheveyo took a wary step forwards closing the distance between them enough that she could reach her rosy maw out to him. Brushing her kissers against his cheek in a comforting gesture the mare smiled and bumped him gently before allowing a whisper of words to flow from her vocal chords. "I'm sorry." She wasn't exactly sure what she was sorry for, other than asking a question that the warrior had expected to be polite. But all she knew was that if he left again, so abruptly like the last time, her mood would be all but depressed.

Note & Sabel

@[Cheveyo]
typed out this wonderful post..computer shut off..did not feel like completely retyping this post until today :/

--

Every fiber of Note's being tensed at her touch, for it sent chills up his spine. It was soft, intended to be comforting, but he hadn't been touched like this in a very, very long time. The stallion was split in his emotions. He wanted dearly to lean into her move, for the mare was incredibly attractive, but Sohalia...
Oh gods, Soh. Why did that name still crawl into his head at the most inappropriate moments possible? Note was positive that she barely gave a damn about him anymore, so why think about her at all? This thought caused his heart to sink, but it was the truth. She had fallen head over hooves for Gaucho, leaving Note to wallow in self-pity on his own. She was probably engaging in much more intimate contact than this.
Frustration swelled in Note at this. He moved into Cheveyo's touch, taking a step towards her and brushing his own muzzle gently against the mare's cheek. The stallion almost felt guilty for doing so. The action had been brought out more so in aggravation than actual affection, she deserved more.
Note pushed this out his mind, becoming consumed with Cheveyo, only Cheveyo. Only her. Only her eyes. Only her body so close to his own. Only her flaxen locks and rosy lips. Only Cheveyo.
A smile found it's way back to Note's features at the sight of the sheer kindness the mare had shown, as small as it was, lifted the weight that had so heavily burdened his chest. This mare would turn into a great companion of his one day. But what about today? Were they friends? Note wasn't sure, he had few friends. Even before his accident, Sohalia and warrior training had consumed his life, nothing else. With his lack of experience in how friendships worked, the stallion discontinued his thoughts to listen to words fall from Cheveyo's lips.

"I'm sorry."

Sorry for what? Sorry for the recent happenings in Note's life, or for asking the question? Cheveyo knew nothing of what had happened to him. She didn't need to be apologizing.
Once again the bay had found himself pondering upon this painted mare's nature. She came off as a fairly non-talkative, perhaps even distant creature, like himself, but she seemed almost remorseful. Note was bewildered by this. He wouldn't behave like she was even to his best friend, if he had one. The stallion had been taught it was a sign of weakness - but this didn't make her seem weak. It made Cheveyo seem compassionate, making her all the more able to be strong, giving her a cause to fight for.
Admirable, not weak.
"You have nothing to be sorry for," Note whispered back, keeping his sharp gaze pinned to hers. His ear's flicked backwards after the words had fallen from his lips. He shifted slightly away from the mare to get a better view of her. "Are we...are we friends?" Note asked, sounding slightly nervous, yet playful, a grin still painted on his lips.
Sabel hadn't done much during these events but internally laugh at the awkwardness of her bonded. He acted totally normal to her, but around horses, the stallion was a different being. If only he could learn to appear to others as he did to her.

The quivering warmth that spread through her painted bodice with the gentle touch of her kissers against his cheek was nearly overwhelming. Nearly strong enough to cause the painted warrior to turn on her heel and bust ass out of the dark room they were standing in, the intimacy that revolved around touching this strange stallion was odd enough for the anti-social mare as it was, but the fact that she liked touching him was enough to nearly make her skull blow off of her spine. There was something so odd about the fact that she enjoyed being in the emerald eyed stallion's presences. Cheveyo wasn't quite sure what to make of it just yet, only time would tell if this would become more of a natural experience or if she would eventually grow to avoid being near the stallion entirely.
Because she was clearly having an issue with not touching him every time they met.
The shiver that had been passing over her multi-painted was just beginning to fade when the stallion's weight shifted ever so slightly so he was instead leaning into her touch rather than just standing there. Cheveyo could nearly feel the air being sucked out of her lungs as she was standing there feeling the pressure of the bay's cheekbone against her maw and the gentle way that the short terra colored hair tickled at the delicate skin around her nares. She was shocked that she didn't pass out on the spot with the little bit of extra...attention that was being shown. This time when she touched him, Note hadn't dashed off to dissapear into the shadows once more. He allowed her to touch him and even touched her back in his own way.
A fresh shiver passed over her frame as she lifted her long white lashes from her cheekbones and allowed her orchid hued pools to settle on the stallion's breathtaking-ly green gems that decorated his otherwise plain, but handsome features. As their eyes locked the corners of her velvets turned up involuntarily into a smile, she wasn't entirely sure as to what she was apologizing for. Maybe it was for asking him the seemingly polite question, maybe it was for the fact that she had ran into him, or the fact that they seemed to keep bumping into each other and they kept touching each other. The touching seemed to be getting more and more serious with each time they met, which worried the mare slightly. Her mind set had always been around her work and her work alone. The most intimate of a touch she had ever felt was that of someone's ivories slicing through her flesh, nothing that could be seen as sexual. She had never bore a child, nor had she even tried to have a child as the thought was just something that she wasn't looking for.
At least it hadn't been what she had been looking for, but something about this stallion was slowly beginning to change her mind.
"You have nothing to be sorry for." As his thick whisper reached her forward pricked harks the warmth of his touch was slowly being moved away from her cheekbones. Inwardly the mare pouted and yearned for him to move forward once again and just remain where he had been standing. "Are we...are we friends?" The sound of his voice again caused her harks to prick forwards as her orchid pools focused once more on his features, lingering on the smirk that turned the corners of his smoky kissers up. The question was one that Cheveyo expected from a much younger creature than herself, but coming from the stallion before her, it was almost charming. A smile pulled it's way across her ivory splashed features as the heat of a blush grew on her cheeks, nearly casting a pinked hue across her skin as she parted her kissers to speak. "I hope we are." Cheveyo didn't quite know what their label was, she honestly hoped that they were friends. But for some reason she felt like they had the potential to be more than friends as she had never felt the fire like she felt with Note with any one else that she considered to be her friend. Lowering her skull slightly the mare looked at the stallion through her long lashes, slightly worried over the response she was going to get from the question about to spill from her vocal chords. "Do you believe we are friends?"

Note & Sabel

@[Cheveyo]

--

After a mere six years of life, Note had accumulated a meager amount of knowledge regarding other beings. In all honesty, they confused him. He watched them from afar, taking on the status of a wallflower, but learned so little. In a sense, the dusty bay stallion was quite experienced with interactions of others, having a daughter and an ex-mate. Then again, his interactions with them had been few and far between.
Especially in the past year.
For all Note knew, his precious Skysong was dead. The thought caused a wave of guilt to wash upon the stallion, a sickening feeling clenching his stomach. He wanted to think Sohalia had been kind to the filly, keeping her close in a loving embrace, but he was not so sure. With another mate around, particularly one as primally intact as Gaucho, there was not a reason to keep the filly around.
And to think Skysong had been Note's shot at redeeming himself. What an ultimate failure that had turned out to be.
Second chances are rewarded with caution, thirds are scraped from what little faith is left within. They never turn out well.
No more chances. None at all. Only a void would fill the moral sense he had once lived upon. Instead, the he would choose to play jump rope with the line that bordered good and evil. He would do what he saw fit in the situation, no more this 'bettering oneself' act he had portrayed for so long.
This new code Note would live by was echoing throughout his mind as Cheveyo spoke the words: "Do you believe we are friends?"
If he said yes, then they would go on in a unity of friendship. That would mean giving a great deal of emotional support to the painted mare. Possibly physical as well. But she had been good company so far. Very, very good company.
Company that Note yearned for in an almost lustful way. Or loving. Something like that. He couldn't tell. But every time they touched, a spark flitted through his body in an exhilarating way. It was magical. The stallion didn't want her as a friend, did he?
No, friendship just wouldn't be enough. But this was a fact Note could not come to accept, or reveal to anyone just yet. Especially Sabel. She would give him hell about it.
And here Note decided to apply his new 'do what's sufficient for the situation' principle. "I believe we should be friends," a boyish smile appeared upon Note's ashen lips as he spoke, all attention focused upon Cheveyo as his sharp green eyes brightened.
"Friendship is achieved when a pair of beings know each other fairly well and enjoy to be in the their company, right? We've got the 'enjoyable company' part down, but we don't know each other that very well," Note pointed out. It felt strange to talk so much. This was the most chatting he had done in almost a year. His eyes slipped to Cheveyo's painted handprints, the arrows upon her hooves and the one that marked her leg, the circles around her nose, and eyes. He decided to start with those.
"What do your marks mean? How did they get there?" Note questioned, flicking his tail in anticipation. The stallion was genuinely curious for once in his life. A new feeling, yes, but he quite liked it.

The feeling of the cold creeping back into her cheekbone was a sad feeling. Cheveyo was finally beginning to enjoy being around the stallion and growing comfortable with the touches shared between them, and then he had to go and ruin it by moving just enough that they were no longer touching. She could still feel how very close he was to her, the invasion of personal space that normally sent her high-tailing out of there was comforting and warm, a feeling she craved.
But she wasn't going to be the first one to make a move again, the last two touches had been brought on by her own actions, it was time to see if the handsome bay stallion actually wanted to touch her or if he just wasn't going to be rude and step away from her. The wondering caused a feeling of worry to gnaw at her belly as her orchid pools searched Note's face and down to the thickly muscled chest and shoulders that carried his tawny feathered wings that pulled his appearance together quite nicely. It was then that the stallion spoke up asking the question that at the time seemed to childish, nearly something she expected a yearling to ask his first crush and not two fully grown, mature creatures to be asking. Her response was in full honesty, as Cheveyo truly did hope that they were friends. The painted warrior truly cherished the stallion who stood before her, even though they didn't know much about each other, other than their names. Note and Cheveyo. Cheveyo and Note. Either way she recited it in her mind it sounded quite nice together.
As she was rolling their names together over and over again in her grey matter the stallion's smoky kissers parted ever so slightly as he went to speak once more. "I believe we should be friends," as he spoke his kissers twisted up in a grin that meant he was onto something and likely about to cause trouble, a grin that everyone of the male species seemed to have perfected. But coming from this one, it caused Cheveyo's heart to squeeze a little tighter than usual and the rush of heat to rise to her cheekbones once more. Luckily he spoke again before she could do something to make a fool out of herself in front of him once again. "Friendship is achieved when a pair of beings know each other fairly well and enjoy to be in the their company, right? We've got the 'enjoyable company' part down, but we don't know each other that very well," his lyrics went on much longer, much, much longer than the painted mare had expected and as they reached her forward pricked harks she could nearly feel her heart drop into her stomach. He was going to start asking her questions next.
She could tell.
This wasn't going to be a fun day, and all Cheveyo could do was pray that her emotions wouldn't get the better of her in this case. "I agree, it would be nice to know more than your calling." A smile twisted the corners of her kissers as she braced herself for the question that was coming next. Maybe if she was lucky he would just ask her how old she was or what kind of a companion she hoped to be bonded too. Those questions would be easy to answer. Painless even. The suspense built to an all time high as the stallion took a deep breath before allowing his vocal chords to spit out words once more. "What do your marks mean? How did they get there?"
Her heart sank as it tightened just enough that tears prickled the back of her orchid eyeballs. Blinking once the mare's harks swiveled backwards as her weight shifted to her rear ivory dipped limbs, she wasn't mad at Note for asking the question as it was one that everyone asked at some point. It just hurt, they were a constant reminder as to what she had lost. Swallowing hard Cheveyo looked at the stallion but not quite at him as she prepared herself to tell the story that caused her so much heartache and still occasionally visited her nightmares. "They all mean different things. The ones around my eyes and nose are to enhance the senses while the ones on my hooves are for speed and agility," As she spoke she stretched out her left forelimb to show off the crooked red arrow painted so beautifully on her thigh. "And this one? It is to give me strength and cause plenty of trouble for my enemies. The marking on my left hip is also to bring harm to my enemies."
Shifting her weight ever so slightly once again, pulling her leg back to it's normal position beneath her the painted lady warrior turned her skull over her right shoulder where the last two markings were painted. These two were the most painful to look at, but the ones that normally drew everyone's attention as they were the largest aside from the bold circles on her face. Sliding her tongue across her lips before biting the inside of her cheek to fight back the emotions that would surely be exposed in her words the mare looked back at her companion. "The upside down handprint is for the first battle that I entered, it was a glorious day...so much happiness when we returned home victorious, there were still many casualties on both sides though." Clicking her tongue against the roof her mouth the mare sucked in a deep breath before forcing her story onward. "And the final marking weighs the heaviest. It is for the death of my rider, Kwahu." At the mention of his name the mare's voice caught and just ended as if cut by a pair of scissors, tears began to well at the brim of her ivory lashed pools as her grey matter flashed images of that fateful day through her mind like a motion picture.

Note & Sabel

@[Cheveyo]

--

'What. Is. Happening.'
The thought echoed through Sabel's head as she felt the churning emotions boiling inside of Note, swelling and receding with every word Cheveyo spoke. She had been with the stallion for a year, but she had never known him to feel anything like this. Nothing came close to comparing to this.
The lynx had been with the stallion through the birth of his own daughter, yet the emotions he got from that were nothing like this. For a moment, Sabel considered the possibility of love. Maybe it was love. Unfortunately, she wasn't well acquainted with that particular subject. Even her own mother hadn't loved her. The cat had stalked off, leaving Sabel to die in the midst of Frostfall.
The cat wasn't sure she even loved Note. The relationship she shared with the stallion was based more upon dependency than love. But she had felt every emotion Note had ever felt. She could name off each one, but none of seemed to be on the basis of love. Perhaps that would change. This could be love. If not, this was surely the closest thing the cat would be able to compare to love; being the primal creature she was.
But then Sabel felt a pain from her bonded. This one she knew all too well. It was pain, sadness - anguish at most.
Note lifted his wings, looking at his side as Cheveyo spoke of Kwahu. His sharp green eyes found his scar, still gnarled and horrendous as it had always been. He knew Cheveyo was deeply saddened by the red hand that marked her side; he almost felt a similar way about his scar. Not quite. The torment he felt from the scar was brought on by a death as well, although it was not from someone he loved, but from someone he hated. It was weighed heavy with guilt and sadness all the same, though the emotions were incredibly selfish. Note did not feel sorry for the stallion he had so ruthlessly murdered, but just regretted the way he dealt with the situation.
As Cheveyo continued to talk, Note began to feel guilty for asking a question that treaded such thin ground, but he did not regret it. In a way, it helped him understand Cheveyo a step further. He understood the way she felt. This strengthens friendships, right? Anything to understand the other being helps the friendship, yes? Well, it was the best tactic Note could think of. Therefor he would be using it.
The stallion turned his head back to the mare, locking eyes with her before moving his muzzle to her shoulder, to the red hand print. His body ignited at the touch, feeling almost numb with the sizzling sensation. He brushed his lips over the marking, an overwhelming sense of grief passing through his body when he realized what he was doing. This mark was just too special for someone such as himself to be fiddling with so intimately. The stallion moved his touch to the mare's neck, burying his muzzle in her soft, flaxen locks, his sharp green gaze finding hers once more. It was his turn to be apologetic.
"I'm so sorry..." Note's voice was almost a whisper. His lips were tingling, as was the rest of his body that was touching Cheveyo's, though this spark he craved for and now felt thanks to the painted mare he had come to admire so much didn't help the grief he felt for her. He knew how it was to lose a loved one. They were hard to go through, but with time and other friendships, losses are possible to get over. Though they are not forgettable.

It had thrown her so off guard. That question of his, the one that Cheveyo dreaded hearing every single day that passed. It wasn't that she was ashamed of her past at all, no, that wasn't the case...the painted warrior was proud of come from such a long line of skilled fighters. Some of them had lost riders, many of them had lost their lives long before their riders ever died. Most days, Cheveyo wished she had shared their fates and been the one felled rather than Kwahu.
But surprisingly, she didn't hesitate to tell Note and Sabel all of her story. Of course, the details weren't gone into. She wasn't going to share the gory details of how when she turned around to go collect Kwahu his soul was already gone. All that was left was a shell of the man she had loved, an arrow protruding from his chest...if it had been an inch more to either side she would likely be still with him and not wandering around in these rabbit holes. But then she wouldn't have met the stallion who stood before her, she wouldn't have done any of the amazing and different things that she had done since her arrival to Helovia. The death of her rider had been such a bittersweet thing, sometimes it was more bitter than sweet. But then there were moments, like the one when her and Note had been cheek to cheek that were much more sweet than they were bitter.
In the midst of her thoughts the painted mare hadn't seen the stallion turn away from her for a moment to look at the scar that ran beneath his flaming wings. She didn't see the moment of sadness that flashed through his own features, nor did she notice the odd way the feline was shifting about as if something was making her uncomfortable. Cheveyo was deaf and blind to the world around her as the tears continued to bubble up on her lower lids, nearly touching the long lashes that grew from her upper lid before cascading down to the trail they followed down her ivory facade. As much as the mare dispised crying and showing any form of emotional weakness it felt almost good to tell the stallion the meanings around her markings. Almost as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders that she didn't know she had been carrying for so long.
It wasn't until he moved towards her that her mind drifted away from the feathers that topped the arrow sticking from the man's well muscled chest. The feeling of Note's lips moving gently across her shoulder caused an involuntary gasp and her pelt to shiver as if the temperature had dropped about twenty degrees in a few seconds. Which was odd considering the mare felt as if she was standing in the middle of a sauna from the touch of the stallion, who didn't linger very long on her shoulder. Cheveyo didn't think anyone had ever thought to touch her markings before, it was almost as if they thought they would smudge the paint that after years had permanently dyed her pelt. Nothing they or the weather would do could get rid of the marks from her past, and Cheveyo couldn't be happier.
Sighing softly the mare sniffed a couple times, getting her emotions back under check and drying her eyes as the stallion moved ever so slightly so he had his maw buried in her messy flaxen tresses. So there they stood, eye to eye, his maw causing an odd tingling sensation to pass across her entire body as she shifted just enough to brush her own kissers against the gentle curve of his neck. She would have been content staying here talking with each other and sharing their secrets like lovers do. That "l" word concerned her a little, they weren't lovers. As he had said, they were just becoming friends, something seemed a little off with the word friends as well but for now she would be perfectly content with the label. At least it meant she could be close to him from time to time.
"I'm so sorry..." If she had been any further into her thoughts Cheveyo likely wouldn't have heard the stallion's whispered apology. But she heard it loud and clear, almost as if he was speaking right into her ear rather than into her nape. She wanted so badly to tell him that everything was alright, that she had survived this long and she would keep on surviving. But opening her mouth would just lead to a garbbled sound of the grieving, so instead she just took a step closer to the bay stallion so close in fact that their chests were touching and she could drape her muzzle across his withers where she stood. Soaking up the feeling of being so close to someone who caused her feelings to stir. Someone she could trust enough to tell of a horrid thing that happened to her.

Note & Sabel

@[Cheveyo]

--

'Shit.'
It wasn't supposed to happen like this. An action brought out of abhorrence and lust had morphed into a conflicting situation dominated by Note's own culpability. He hadn't meant for Cheveyo to get emotional at all. The stallion was awful at helping others cope with their personal affairs. He would grudgingly oblige to doing so, but would most likely only make the circumstances worse. His conflicted emotions were but a side effect of this. Whatever the stallion happened to galavant into would be thoroughly screwed up by the time he was done with it. Perhaps he was just an unlucky fellow. Or the unlucky fellows found their way to him, as if they were companions of impending doom.
Either way, it didn't change the situation. Cheveyo was pulling him close, very close. With any other horse this would be far too close for comfort, but with this mare it seemed...natural.
In that moment, Note realized how false he had lived his life. He had trotted after fake love, yearning for a chance to be normal all these years. Then Cheveyo had come in. She was the most unnatural being there was - yet the stallion found her the easiest to be in the company of. How ironic.
The stallion draped his neck over her own withers, savoring the feeling of their bodies being ever so close. They couldn't be just friends. But it was too soon to be anything more. Or was it?
Gods, he didn't know. But he couldn't confess his feelings for her when he didn't quite understand them himself. He thought he understood his feelings for Sohalia but that was not so. Then, in the past, when the pair had been labeled as mates, the stallion ran from having to deal with her. Even now, he felt both love and resentment for the mare. Love for her braveness, resentment for her running out on him to flounce around with another stallion. Would Cheveyo do that?
Note softly sighed, remembered his new 'live in the moment' philosophy and pulled the mare a little bit closer, moving into the touch. It was intimate, yet gentle. He liked it, but wanted more. More would be too much to ask for at the moment, though.
The stallion picked his head up a bit, glancing at the mare's flaxen locks, his breath utterly taken away by the contact they had shared. He smiled a bit, a soft laugh coming from his ashen lips. This was an unusual encounter, but he found himself wanting to give anything to just stay in this moment.
Sabel was a different story. The one time she had had Note all to herself, she was forced into sharing him again. She was actually connecting with him, learning things about the stallion she had never known and now there was someone else...it just wasn't fair to her. Whatever version of fair she had contemplated was nothing like this. The cat shot a sightless glare at Cheveyo from her position on her bonded's rump. She dug her claws into Note's skin, but not hard enough to cause him pain. Just enough to relay her displeasure.
The lanky lynx whirled around once Note had moved into their touch. She leapt off his rump, landing with a soft thud in the sand. She wandered to the side of the cave, her pelt brushing the cave wall. He wouldn't even notice her departure. He was far too caught up in the other mare. He's always falling all over the place for someone else. It's like she's never enough...if all Note wanted was company, why was she not an option? The cat would die for him. She would die a slow, painful death for him.
And he wouldn't even notice her leave his hugging spree.
Note did notice, but he ignored her all the same. He understood Sabel perfectly, but this was what she signed up for when they bonded.
"How many horses have you touched like this, Cheveyo?" Note asked, diverting his attention as far away from Sabel as possible. It was a personal question to be asking of Cheveyo, maybe even too personal, but it was genuine. He had only touched one other mare like this. One.
That made Cheveyo pretty special. But Note wasn't sure if he was quite as remarkable to her. Therefor, he needed an answer.

Rosy nares flared ever so slightly as the mare sniffed once or twice in efforts to get her emotions back under check. Cheveyo hadn't told anyone of her past before, of the boy she lost and the life she left behind her except for the painted patches on her pelt. But something about Note made her trust him, maybe it was the warm tingling feeling she got when she was around him, or the honesty in those entrancing green eyes that adorned his already handsome features. Whatever it was, was something that she hadn't found in another equine in her two years since that fateful day.
Still sniffling the mare couldn't help but feel a moment or two of joy when the bay allowed her to pull him in close, their chests touching slightly with the weight of their skulls against each other's withers. So close to the base of his wings that the lady warrior was nearly entranced with how the feathers grew out of his skin and the place that on her frame was just a shoulder melded perfectly into the amazingly powerful wings that could carry him through the atmosphere. Sighing gently the mare nuzzled her rosy maw in closer to the stallion, taking in his musky cologne and putting it away in her filing cabinet for later. He was special to her for some reason, and she wanted to make sure she remembered every little detail of him that she possibly could.
The sound of movement from further down Note's back drew the painted lady's attention away from the stallion for a moment, just in time to see an annoyed looking Sabel get up from her spot on his back and leap to the soft ground around them. Guilt flashed through her being for a moment as she realized that she had a bad habit of interrupting their time together. Cheveyo thought about wishing him well and finding him another day just so he could have that time with his bonded, but for some reason she couldn't seem to move out of their embrace. The warmth and safety that came from being around him was more than she had ever felt and she wasn't quite ready to give that up just so he could have time with the feline. It was his voice that rang into the silence that caused the mare to take a step away from him and out of their embrace.
"How many horses have you touched like this, Cheveyo?" His words were spoken softly but she could hear the strands of curiosity and seriousness through them as they reached her forward pricked harks. Her heart sank as her orchid pools locked in on his emerald ones, he thought her some kind of common whore. She had touched him one too many times, gotten too intimate too quickly. Inwardly cursing herself the lady warrior vowed to not allow the feeling she had for the bay to intensify any more than they already had unless he showed them first. Shaking her skull softly Cheveyo allowed her kissers to part as her vocal chords vibrated just enough to get the single syllable off of them. "None." She couldn't help the thoughts that rushed into her grey matter next, how many mare's had he been with? What was he expecting with this new friendship they had? Were they more than friends already?
Would she even know what to do in a relationship that was more than friendship?
"You?" Even though the next syllable rang out just as clearly as the first one, Cheveyo wasn't sure she wanted to know the reply just yet. The possiblity that he was one of those stallions that flaunted their manhood any chance they got was too great and it worried her that she had no experience. Not that she regretted that she was still a virgin at six years old, not at all. In fact, it was a fact that she treasured, there would be no children from her until she was good and ready...which she wasn't sure when that would be.

Note & Sabel

@[Cheveyo]

--

Distorted sniffles came from Cheveyo's direction, causing Note's heart to ache in a way he was unfamiliar with. Yet, in a twisted way, he wanted her to cry into his touch. Not to force anymore pain unto the mare, he certainly did not want that, but he wanted to comfort her. Be there for her. Wipe her cheek with his muzzle and say, "My love, don't cry when there is so much to smile unto." The words threatened to actually break the barrier of his lips, but they never came. No matter how much Note found himself adoring the painted mare, he still felt it too soon. This was only their second meeting. And he silently prayed it to be the second of many more.
As his chosen words left his lips, Cheveyo's pink gaze came to meet his. Her eyes were strange, but he liked them. He liked strange. In all honesty, Note was sick of the same old gray coats. The bays. The chestnuts. As well as the other shades of banausic, unmarked equines who roam the land as if they're top dog in this wolf pack.
Cheveyo lightly shook her head, meaning one thing.
"None."
It wasn't relief that washed upon the stallion as he heard the word, but more so caused his curiosity to pique even further, an endless stream of 'Why?'s ebbing within his skull. Why did she feel the need to touch him, then? Why hadn't she found anyone else to touch so intimately? Was she scared? If so, then why? Did she just not feel the need to be close to others? If so, then why? Why? WHY? WHY HIM? The thoughts roared in his mind, though they didn't seem like his own. He had never felt such an intense anger towards anyone, ever. Note didn't hold grudges like that.
'Oh, Gods,' Note thought, wallowing in his own despair at the realization. Sabel's emotions were influencing his thoughts, no doubt. 'Sabel, please, you got along fine with Soh,' The bay plead, placing his head back upon Cheveyo's withers to hide whatever emotions flashed upon his features. 'I don't like thieves,' came a quiet hiss within his mind. As sad as it was, Sabel was right about the thief part. In the lynx's mind, she had conjured a world of just herself and Note. Within this world, she was being robbed of the only thing to ever bring her happiness which was her bonded, the dusty bay stallion known as Note. The one to commit such a terrible crime was Miss Cheveyo.
But it wasn't like that. He was the one stealing himself away from the cat. Note shut his eyes, a light sigh falling from his lungs, too enamored with the spectacular mare before him to get caught up in such a childish argument over himself of all things.
"You?"
Well, now, that's a touchy subject. Note began to regret ever asking the mare the question, but he wanted the answer. He wanted to know what he meant to her, therefor, he found out. It was incredible to know how seemingly special he was to her, as she was almost the same to him. Note had saved himself for someone truly meaningful - Sohalia. He thought she was meaningful at the time, at least. But he didn't regret anything of his past, oh no. There was no use in doing that, especially since she had gifted him with Skysong. Although he knew not where the filly was today.
"One," Note whispered the forlorn word, the speech barely audible. He was becoming increasingly conflicted regarding the subject. Yet it only made him pull the mare closer to his body, his skin sizzling at the contact. Would it be too much to ask to stay here forever? He wished it wouldn't, but knew all well the ending of this storybook tale.

As she pulled away to look into the stallion's emerald eyes she nearly found her breath being pushed right out of her lungs and nearly blocked from being able to breath once again. Every detail about this stallion was enough to send her fragile mind off of her rocker and into some crazy abyss where everything was smiles and rainbows, so unlike the reality of the dark world around them. Reality was death, tears, blood, and darkness...not this odd happiness that had been billowing up in her belly with the closeness shared between herself and the winged stallion.
The single syllable floated into the air hesitantly, as Cheveyo wasn't quite sure where this conversation was going any longer. It began with the inquisition on the markings of her past and suddenly took a one eighty to ask about her nonexistent sex life. But, no matter how strange the questions would get...how emotionally tiring it was to answer them the painted warrior would do her best to answer her new found companion with complete honesty. In her six years, she had never touched nor looked at another stallion in the way that she was touching and looking at Note. The feelings welling up deep inside of her hadn't been felt towards another, at least not towards one with four legs as they did. And the feelings towards Kwahu were even different, more of a dependency than love. Even the thought of that "l" word was a little worrisome, that meant giving your whole being to another and trusting that they would take care of you.
It wasn't long after the word had escaped from the grasp of her vocal chords before the bay stallion pulled her in close once again. His well defined, sporty skull settling easily on her withers as if that was where it had been meant to be forever. Allowing her pallid lids to drift shut over odd eyes the painted mare relaxed ever so slightly, this was where she was meant to be and it all felt right. But there was a question she needed to ask as well, a question that had just been asked of herself was now to be turned around on the steed. Turning her skull slightly so her chin was resting at the base of his thickly muscled boa on the opposite side of her own nape she allowed another syllable loose from her kissers.
As Cheveyo waited patiently, yet anxiously for the stallion's answer she turned back to the connection of the feathered appendages to his shoulders. Admiring them once more and recalling the warm fuzzy feeling that they had left in her belly, warily the mare stretched her boa out just a tad until her lips met the joining point of his wings to his shoulders. Massaging the joint carefully the mare's chestnut harks were tilted backwards so she could catch every word the stallion might speak. "One." One. The word echoed over and over again in the mare's grey matter as she thought about it. One syllable. One mare. One more than she had been with. One other that had held his heart enough that he were to give his whole being to her. What had happened to that one? Did she die? Did she leave him? Or did he leave her? Did he still love her? Did they have children? Sighing softly the painted lady moved away from his wings ever so slightly as he pulled her in even tighter to his chest, the electric feeling between the two of them almost enough to push the questions from her mind as the feelings she had for the stallion boiled at the edge of her pot. "Did you love her?" Her words were soft, possibly even a little broken as she thought of the stallion holding another mare like this. As odd as it felt, their might have even been a tinge of jealousy as she thought about the other mare, who was probably some pretty dainty creature that needed protecting. Some mare who was everything that she wasn't.

Note & Sabel

@[Cheveyo]

--

A weight settled upon Note's chest, memories of his brief, but passionate, romance with Sohalia coming back to him.
Oddly enough, he didn't care to remember them. Normally they would force him into a state of anguish that the stallion couldn't handle, but now they were just figments of a past life. He had a new life to collect. Why not start with Cheveyo?
The stallion was pulled from his thoughts not long after they had begun by none other than the painted mare embracing his slender body. It wasn't what she was saying, Cheveyo was quiet for now, but what she was doing. Her lips softly massaged the joint connecting his wings to his body. Such a feeling of pleasure was foreign to the stallion, for it didn't make him awkward or out of place at all. The whole situation just felt unexplainably natural.
It made his word increasingly difficult say as well as admit. She was just that enthralling, not to mention innocent, making this particular truth almost shameful to own up to. But it would be the best to be honest. If Skysong showed up one day while he was with Cheveyo and greeted him by saying, "Father, it's been so long, I've missed you so much! How's Sohalia?" It would be a bit awkward (well, more awkward) if Cheveyo was unaware of his previous afflictions. Even worse if he had lied.
Her next words were filled with a sadness, causing Note's stomach to churn. It wasn't as if that relationship meant anything to him now. "Did you love her?"
That was a difficult question to answer as well. He did. At the time, yes. Or did he? Their love had been more of an arrangement. Their friends had essentially played dollhouse with them ('Okay, Note here, Sohalia here, now kiss). The memories were muddled, corrupted by time. Was he truly in love or just caught in the moment and swayed by a delusional fantasy of a picture perfect family for himself? It was terrifying, really, that the stallion wasn't sure.
"I don't know," Note sighed, the words slow and broken, his eyes opening to reveal a sharp green gaze filled to the brim with agony. "I might've thought I did at the time, I can't even remember," he stated.
The thing was, their relationship had resulted in a child. Two, actually, one of which was born without life. Children were a sign of unity where Note was from. They were united then, but that didn't make whatever feelings between them love, right? No? Yes?
Why did emotions have to be so confusing?

"The thought made Note's heart ache, but that's what love is. You don't care if the other person hates you or rejects you or anything of the sort because you just want to see them be happy."
