Above the Threshold muscles flexed and tore against the cold of winter. Hooves striking out against the heavens, steam pushing from ivory nostrils with every stride - Feathers spread, light built bones unfolding, rising and lifting in powerful beats into the air. Snow pelted against his chiseled façade, melting slowly upon contact. Eyes of gold burden and narrow to focus through the wet climate. The very life of another rested upon his shoulders, should something happen to the stranger he would have to live with the mistake of leaving the Sanctuary forever. Quivering lips tuck closer to his gold painted chest, nape arched and silver streaked banner trashed behind as winter combed it with her fingertips.

Had it been any other situation, he would have arose above the storm, and glided above natures wrath. Downside to that option would be no destination in site, no landmarks just fluttering assumptions. Lobes slicked back, hoping Aeryc was keeping pace behind. Bones groaned, joints clicking as he pressed his limits against the winds of the storm. Breathing deep the salvation of ash and smoke, steam filled the air and the notice in temperature slowly began to seep through his coarse fibers. Knowing the cave couldn’t have been too far off, he dove closer to the earth’s crust, wings flapping violently in circular motion as golden daggers danced upon moist earth and stone. Obsidian wings flashed against the heavens, holding a parallel stance as the wind sifted through them like butter.

"Not far now!" Tones boomed from his shivering lips as he hoped it was loud enough the stallion could hear through the blistering winds from the storm. Almost in synced time, wings fell from either side and stretched once more before withdrawing to his sides, shifting and fluffing the ice and snow from their feather tips. Lungs burned from the cold, eyes finally able to open fully and grasp his bearings as they rested upon the Sanctuary walls. Motions fluid yet painful as he reined back, golden flints clack and tick upon the cave floor, melting snow dripping from his legs as he turned to gaze behind him, praying to see Aerycs lively eyes gazing back into his.

Vulture-like wings beat feverishly against the strong grip of the Winter, willing it away from his form with every stroke. His heart beat fast, more out of effort than anything else. Amethyst pools strained to see beyond the wind and ice, attempting to keep a clear line of sight on the man leading him out of this icy hell. He had placed his life in the hands of a stranger, and he wholeheartedly hoped that the stranger knew where he was going. It was hard to imagine how he could know for sure, given the sheer battering force of the wind and the low visibility, but his trust had been placed in Hawkeye and he would not retract it just yet. The man had told him quite plainly to keep pace, and Aeryc liked to think he was doing a decent enough job, he only wished he knew what he was looking for. Where was this shelter from such a large and powerful storm? Where could they flee that the storm would not come knocking?

Moisture clung in large droplets to his feathers and bodice, lining his underside with a thin layer of ice. He fought it off when possible, thrashing his legs to keep it from freezing, beating his wings to keep it at bay - but no man could truly defeat such an onslaught. He had taken to short, rhythmic beats of his wings rather than long, fully extended glides as the wind could not be trusted to carry him in the proper direction. Jaws chattered in their velvet sheaths, tired from the overuse. Hawkeye would make a sudden dive for land, and all too eagerly Aeryc would follow. Wings clung close to him, angling ever so slightly to carry him rapidly downward. Hooves curled up near his waist, preparing for the impact of landing. In the last moments, vulturic wings would beat once, twice, thrice as he landed upon the terrain.

Violently he would shake, mirroring his companion in attempt to rid the ice clinging so desperately to his feathers. Finally his great wings would curl tightly to his sides which still heaved from the journey. Flight was not an overwhelming activity for him, but flight during such a storm was a much different story. Hooves clicked audibly as he moved toward Hawkeye. “I must admit I nearly lost faith in you up there,” he noted, timbre full of near-exhaustion. “What is this place?” Curiosity brimmed in his features as he took in the sights and sounds of this 'shelter'.

Alas, he had managed to make it. Orbs of gold beamed with exhaustion as he turned and met the eyes of Aeryc. He had become doubtful of his determination to get them to safety, but he couldn’t blame the stallion. After all, they didn’t know much about one another other than the name sake they partook in for only a moment within the storm. Shaking the snow from his wings as the melting liquid streamed down his coat with smooth fluid motions, he had been rude and forgotten to mention where exactly he was taking his brethren. "Forgive me; I have failed to mention it." He spoke soft through breathless intakes of oxygen, golden hooves shifting upon the rock below as he turned to gaze into the depths of the cave.

"Like you, I am fairly new to these lands." He began, gathering himself back to a regal stance, chest still heaving; his body doing its best to recover from a strained flight from the storm. "Welcome to Helovia, and within this kingdom there are many realms." He silenced for a moment returning his gaze away from the roan Pegasus and into the darkness of their shrine. "This, is the Sanctuary- most reside hidden within its walls during what I’m being told, as a time of great darkness upon the lands." With that, he turned and mustered his strength to walk down into the caves, the echo of his stride played off the walls like a welcoming serenade to his lobes. "You will be safe here." He turned to look upon the roan as he reached shelter from the winds, the musty air of the mineral caves lingering upon his tongue.

"Did once live by the sea Aeryc?" His tones friendly and deep as dangling threads whisked around his hocks; remembering the statement of the water the stag had made before. And of course, the silver knight knew what the ocean was, but he had never seen it.
