FROST FYRE
dropping glasses just to hear them break
The world above was cleared, shadows slinking back, revealing the precious sunlight that hasn't been seen in months, the animals quickly fluttering back into their dens, pouring into the land once again. She wasn't aware of the change above until a few days after it happened, after the gods dispatched of the shadows, the darkness gone from the realm until night comes crawling back. She remained back for a bit, watching others take their first steps out into the light, amazed that they did not transform into a demon before her eyes. She soon followed, finding herself in need of the sun.

She stumbled forth, watching a few others follow her as she trips forth into the light of the Heart, a dim, Frostfall sun shimmering down upon her coat. It felt unnatural to stand in the light after so long in the dark, the heat that befalls her skin is alien, foreign to her. She breathes in the fresh air, pleased to finally taste the clean air, the open area she stands before. Her stars are faint in the light, although still there. She can see her vessel, tripping over dark, lithe pillars, yet still moving with a sort of clumsy grace. The boy's body was slowly growing proportionally, and he was slowly turning into a well mannered being, constantly admiring her shimmering galaxy, her universe.

She crosses the river with much grace, her hooves gliding easily over the water, her footing steady, her expression calm. Her stability does not waver, not even for a heart beat, her practice on the slippery ice of the Basin aiding her as she travels over the waters. Finding herself back in the wooded lands, she continues on, taking in the sight of snow covered trees and the glimmering sky. Upon her travels she finds a large dome-like structure, frame work appearing as white stone, old as time. Curtains fall over the entrance of the building, a curious touch spreading through the Silverhorn as she marvels at it, in complete awe at the structure. Surely it was much prettier in the spring, when flowers blossomed and the sun shone down upon them in a brighter manner. Stepping forth, she takes a deep breathe in.

Even after Parelia had moved on with her hatchling companion- appropriately feathered and rather dear to behold, Africa lingered; savouring the timeless beauty and marvelling at the mystery of the ancient Rotunda. Many times had she passed through the region with idle ambition, a restless mind searching for more and writhing for challenge, but never during those ventures had she stumbled upon this place. Her delicate, cream-tinged gaze wandered thoughtfully between the columns surrounding, revelling always in the dancing shafts of coloured light which sank down like a blanket across her bleak, puddle-grey body. Outside grew a lush grove of trees quite apart from those which forged the deep emerald forests of Helovia, the gentle gurgle of a narrow watercourse created a rather peaceful, mesmerizing ambience, and the mild warble of a thrush broke infrequently into a playful harmony that was equally as soothing.

Although pressed squarely upon her conscience was the weight of homeland duty, the dappled creature could not bring herself to part with the quietude; the stillness and the solitude- certainly when she returned to the herd she had been elevated to co-lead in place of the brawny bay, Gaucho, this gift would feel like a distant dream. A retiring sigh swept from her lungs, and she swivelled the bulk of her elegant frame to peer in the other direction. Africa found Silas first, roosting mid-way up a young fir tree with his head nestled contentedly upon the plumy-pillow of his own collar, and she smiled affectionately; glad that he should feel so comfortable to rest his guard. The little area definitely seemed like a Sanctuary in itself- far lovelier in the eyes of a Pegasus and her avian, than the stone confines of the underground version they had barely days before slithered out from.

Perhaps the soiled slurry of snow had masked the arrival of the stranger; the Unicorn. Africa had failed to notice anybody wandering with the veil of thick tangled vines obscuring much of the view surrounding the little marble-like building, and while Silas slept on, there had been no warning noticed. The creature who stepped forward forced the feeble-hearted mare to recoil a little; she was ever more wary having shared now the story of her grim loss, with Midas. Suddenly those scars upon her mind felt raw, stinging, and although she failed to recognise her foe immediately she remained wary. Pastel-gold eyes traced the length of her horn, right to the spindly point and narrowed instinctively there though no trace of aggression had been leaked.

"Hello." The one-winged grey offered for the sake of common courtesy and politeness- a skill which was as much a part of her as the cushy nature of her heart. For the moment her bonded did not stir; her mind did not flounder for his protection. There was a strange familiarity about the spotted bay, but Africa just could not place where they had crossed paths before- maybe it was somewhere down beneath the earth, where the whole Helovian population had been forced to bed together.

FROST FYRE
dropping glasses just to hear them break
It was indeed strange how Fate worked at the most random of times, how it weaved webs so tender one could take one wrong step and miss the chance Fate had given them. In the Maiden's mind, she imagined Fate as a large, black widow, working continuously to weave webs, tie loose ends, and to intertwine fates. She swears she heard the snapping of pincers as she turned her back towards Carnesîr, letting Fate cut through the thread that bound them, watching it fall helplessly to her hooves. In fact, she had been so stressed from the recent change of events that a single fringe of white grew threw her forelock. She stumbled about like a drunken fool, lost and confused, a young filly again, searching helplessly for her mother.

A shaky hoof is set forward, a rustling behind her. Head is swung in the most ungraceful manner, lips quivering, recently fallen tears leaving a dark trail upon her cheeks. She lets her mouth gape as earthen eyes befall a sleek grey figure, one that was familiar, yet the name hangs just before her tongue, a piece of meat dangling before a predator's claws. Something painful strikes her in the breast, an emotion she hadn't felt before.

Guilt

It lingers there, stinging like a wasp, running the length of her spine. Her mind sparks a memory, one that's faded— at the edge of being forgotten, but at the same time clear as the water on the shores of the Blue. She gasps, breath knocked from her lungs by the things she sees before her. This is the same mare that she had run into in the Basin, the one kept prisoner for being one who could reach the sky, who could go closest to the Gods. Under her breath words are muttered, while the seemingly happy mare offers a greeting, a simple hello.

"I know you. I.. I know you!" Dark lips tremble uncontrollably as she gazes towards the eyes of the alabaster woman. "You were in the Basin, with a stallion. You were a prisoner—" Curious eyes wander to the long, mean scar that ran along her shoulder, dipping inwardly where the socket should connect to the joint, feathers desperately trying to grow but failing, appearing tattered and useless. "When did it happen?" She motions towards the scar with her muzzle, eyes fixed to the damage upon her shoulder. Fate is laughing behind her, laughing, taunting, as she gazes into the darkness of the tattered, ruined flesh.

Somewhere deep down she knew she had been there only a moment before she lost her wing. Yet somehow she had forgotten it, lost in the pool of memories, swirling, cascading out of her auds, never to be dwelled upon again. Fate tilts back her head and laughs at the ebony childe, amused by her stupidity. Had she stayed just a moment longer— everything would be different. But Fate had found it not so, and merely damaged the thread between the alabaster and roan fems.
