Korra thrilling to think, poor child of sin - it was the dead who groaned within
In presuming the wildling would not step down, Lotus was correct. Dead pools returned her stare, nothing short of contempt in their depths and she did not care to hide it. The little kitten upon the mare’s back was hardly noticed, if for nothing but an element of annoyance. Korra didn’t turn her head and didn’t alter her stance as the pregnant wench stepped up before her. Lotus was no threat to her, so naturally she didn’t feel alarmed. Mucles flexed visibly under her scarred hide, short lobes perked forward as the other speaks. When the voice of Lotus died out, Korra’s rasping one took over. “Afraid? I know not fear, ” she simply said, looking over to Mauja briefly. The pale king did not enjoy quarrels, she knew, but this wench who assumed so much needed to be put in her place.
“You like to hear yourself talking, it seems. Your words sound so certain, but they are hollow nonetheless. Never forget, wench – you know nothing about me. For the sake of your own health and for your future children, you best remember that,” the savage spat hoarsely, the most words that had come from her mouth in ages. She did not mention how ridiculous and meaningless the mention of fighting given the opportunity sounded in her ears. What good would a pregnant mare do in a fight, but for knocking over the enemy with her fat belly? Just then, the other stepped down and Mauja intervened, Korra watching Lotus in silence before joining the other warriors. |
