The GOD of the SUN

Burn the whole world down

The God of the Sun watched as she tilted her wings, returning from the heavens back to the earth. He wondered if the feeling of flying was to them as going home was to him. Often he found his thoughts wandering to what it would be like to be mortal, to feel so instantly and react so quickly because life was short and love was fleeting. Would he be even more rash? Or would the brevity of time keep him tethered and wise? He would ask his brother to help him experience this if he thought that the black god would take the request seriously.

She seemed to forget what she had landed for when called to her, watching the dark planes of her face tilt in his direction. The electric blue of her eyes almost seemed to grow lost, her voice softer than the usual bossy tones that moved past her opinionated lips. He thought this not in a negative way, but in an amused way. Sun admired her for speaking her mind and for acting on what she believed to be right, and he knew that that was one reason why he had chosen her to lead. She would fight to the last for those in her charge, even if she did not like them at times.

He raised a single, curious brow as her muscles stiffened, the soft lines of her face hardening as the blue of her eyes pierced him through. Why the sudden shift? She spoke again, and the challenging, hard, bossy voice came through again; it made him smile. The God of the Sun nodded once, slowly, tearing his gaze away from hers to glance over the rolling hills of golden sand. Still, he could not keep from looking for long, and his gold orbs found her again.

"Indeed," he replied, letting his shoulder lead against the bark of the dragon's blood tree. "I feel as if the bonds are strong under your leadership as well as Africa's. Hopefully new souls will see the light and call this place their home soon, but better five brothers than fifteen strangers." Unless they are self-serving gods like my family, he thought bitterly.

As she moved to face him, he remained still, contemplating how best to go about this, especially for one so free spirited and independent. Asking her to carry his child would most likely startle her, drive her away, yes? Smoke had almost behaved like the old broodmare in comparison to the complexity of Ampere.

For one so free with words and choices, he assumed that she would appreciate action, so in a swift and graceful motion, he stepped forward, arching his neck over hers in a manner which could be interpreted as affection or desire. The God of the Sun breathed in the earthy scent of her mane, a smell so mortal and sweet. All of the flames which normally wreathed his body had dimmed, warming without burning.

For the first time in his very long life, he feared being rebuffed.
