       The shy mare trots along the flowers, breathing in the heavy perfume of the blossoms that eases her whirling mind. Her violet eyes roam across the field in curiosity at the new place. The sun is golden above her head and she feels on top of the world. A small chattering comes from her back and she turns her head to see the little red figure of the flying squirrel she rescued from the eagle intent on having it for dinner. Zuni, she had decided to call him, sits confidently on her back, bright blue eyes flitting about the field in astonishment. Juniper berries grow along the perimeter, and she stops to bend her head and examine with joy the little purple berries. Zuni scurries down her neck for a better look, his little twitching black nose a stark contrast to the white fur of his face. She laughs at his morbid curiosity, and wonders at his fearlessness when she carries so much fear. Maybe this could be a new start for the mare, one that the little squirrel could help her with.

Kiva continues her walk, for once in her life at ease with her companion on her back enjoying the sights around her. She bends to inhale the scent of a small blue flower, and she catches another scent as well, the scent of another accompanying her in this sacred field. Dipping her head further, out of the corner of her eye, she can see a massive Clydesdale, with three twisted horns protruding from his head and nose. He stands four hands higher than tiny Kiva, the stark, splashed white of his coat a contrast to the bright field. Behind her, she hears a clamoring of the side of a hill, and a small white dragon accompanied by grey stallion. Slowly, Kiva takes a deep breath, the amount of horses in this field a new experience to her senses which were used to being alone. Zuni chitters on her back, and she feels a new confidence instilled in her, one that the little squirrel could help her fortify.
