Helovia Info
Helovia opened in February 2012! We are an active fantasy equine RPG
Where once the world narrowed into naught but gray dust and desolation, the gods called for life. Wielding the elements of fire and light, dark and wind, earth and water, spark and time, they have created Helovia. The realm is set within the mythical globe of Loorien, a planet rich with all variety of creatures and blessed with all manner of magic. Originally populated by nomadic, tribal characters, they've since grown into massive empires saturated with culture and history. Separated into four distinct segments of Helovia, called "The Regions," each band of horse strong enough and capable enough, took up the power and responsibility of leadership. Unicorns, old, wise and mysterious, took to the north, hidden in forests of mists and shadows and rarely making themselves known beyond their cliffs of the World's Edge. Equines, vast, organized and militaristic, split into two, one group went north to the Windtossed Foothills and the other group went south to the Dragon's Throat. Pegasus remained nomadic, making their homes in various parts of The Wilds in a migratory manner. For many generations, the land was peaceful and calm, but peace was never the way of the gods. With a clash of argument, war and bloodshed massacred Helovia, and in the aftermath, the realm was eerily quiet. Now, as newcomers sweep into this land, they are met with the lingering bitterness of the gods and the struggle to reclaim what was lost. Nothing remains safe or certain while sorcerers and soldiers alike brood and bide their time for revenge, honor and glory.

Kaos :: The Beginning of the End ☼ - 6/2017 - Kaos placed Helovia in a time-bubble for a short period of time, but the Helovian gods are fighting back. But Kaos is powerful- far more powerful than anyone thought. This may be the beginning of the end of Helovia as we know it.

Sky Island :: Murder ☼ - 10/25/14 - Vesta has been found dead on the island, and the gods have called to you to solve the murder!
Sky Island :: Peace ☼ - 7/7/14 - An island has appeared in the sky! Clouds carry Helovians from the Veins to the sky.
Restoration :: We Welcome the Dawn ☼ - 9/21/13 - The sun has finally risen on this day, giving the land new light, but the Time God and the Sun God have yet to be seen.
Endless Night :: Broken Magic Plot ☼ - 8/30/13 - The earth god has returned and is walking across Helovia to heal the land. Every area can now be considered lush and prosperous, but the sun has still not risen.
☼ - 7/19/13 - The moon has risen in the sky, heralding the return of the Goddess of the moon. Lamp trees which light the paths have grown brighter, moon flowers which grow in dark places have begun to grow and prosper and the world is brighter, filled with a new hope.
Endless Night :: Dead Magic Plot ☼ - 6/22/13 - The gods of Helovia, in order to protect the world, have disappeared into the rift, leaving the world sunless, moonless and magic-less in their absence. Only the herdlands have a source of light, but lamp-trees with glowing leaves and branches sporadically line the popular roads and paths from place to place.
Doppleganger Plot ☼ - 6/20/13 - The God of Time is still struggling to close the rift though which the dopplegangers have come. He has requested that his brothers and sister assist in closing this hole, but without knowing why it opened, the task is proving difficult. Magic still remains faulty and hard to control, but the herdlands continue to be places of refuge for those who are fortunate enough to call these lands home.
ORANGEMOON cools off the lands with a a viscious force. Colder than normal, a sign of things to come during Frostfall, Helovia is bathed in a rich tropical lushness - albiet a cold one. The coastlines of the Dragon's Throat are pelted constantly by tidal waves, and the desert climate is humid but chilly. Ice begins to form early in the Aurora Basin leaving the winding trails slick and dangerous. The mists of the World's Edge coat everything in a glistening crystalline shine which encourages mould to grow everywhere. The Spectral Marsh is the only area which remains fertile, blissfully temperature and lush.

Character of the Month for
June, 2017
WEAVER, Corporal of the Aurora Basin, is a relatively recent addition to Helovia and has taken it by storm. Branded with the seal of Death on her chest, intrigue and interest follow both her past and present. Though she is assuredly beautiful, her sometimes sharp personality reveals that there is more to this uni-peg hybrid than meets the eye. Proving herself able on the battlefield in the Basin’s warrior ranks, we can’t wait to see her test her mettle against the looming Kaos happenings! Congratulations!

This is a contest to have your art featured as the main banner for a new site layout which will come in around 1 month.
The theme of this layout is: PEACE in the SKY
What does this mean? The layout will reflect the new site wide plot board that will go up at the conclusion of this contest! Without revealing much about the plot itself, we are going to give you a description of the board and let you use your own imaginations.
A floating island over the Veins of the Gods is the temporary Helovian center for commerce, games, meetings, and convergence of all the herds. Waterfalls pour over the rocky sides, and beautiful, pink cherry blossoms are in full bloom. The area is rich with green grass, rivers, waterfalls, and wildlife, and the perimeter is guarded by clouds that will not allow you to fall off the edge. At the center is a location where all are welcome, and the gods are always present.

OOC name :: Nickel Name of the Entry:: Heaven On Earth Summary or explanation of your entry:: Well with the theme being peace in the sky I tried to come up with something to resemble what we know and things that are yet to be discovered. Using the brief description of the land I came up with a representation of what the land could look like. Along the edge of the floating land there are waterfalls where the water can be seen from the earth below. Clouds protect and surround the island yet if you look close enough you can see the rocky grounds below resembling the veins. The cherry blossoms blooming all around is what I feel peaceful as does the image of the owl. The owl also symbolizes the gods wisdom and their presence but also the many species living together in harmony. Makes more sense in my head XD Hopefully the words do it some justice to help explain things.

OOC name :: Bunnie Name of the Entry:: Hazy Haven Summary or explanation of your entry:: WILIBALD IS THERE! haha. Mostly because I still had the PSD for the manip I made Sarah. x3 If she doesn't want him on it I can take him off. :D But basically Wilibald is in the background going, ":'O so much fooooood," while the pegasus looks out on Helovia below them with her wings spread wide against the wind. I went for a really muted palette and soft style to give the feeling of serenity, and I think it came out pretty well. :D

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it a... whole island?! The young appaloosa was just minding his own business along the shores of Helovia's mainland when the distant shape caught his eye. Waterfalls spilled off the edges of the levitating rock, and two leaning pillars marked the central hub of the island. Clouds encompassed the budding pink forests to prevent any animal from falling to a very wet death, but how would one even get up there? Perhaps the Gods would lend a hand with that endeavour. The appaloosa turned to look behind him, searching for someone to aid him in reaching this impossible discovery. OOC name :: Hawk Name of the Entry:: Welcome to Peace Summary or explanation of your entry:: A young equine ventures into the Veins hoping to find the Gods, only to see a floating island! After reaching the edge she is greeted with a stunning view. Shock resounds as she surveys the peaceful place of cherry blossoms and waterfalls. Then not one, but all four gods of Helovia converse in peaceful company to welcome her. It is truly peace in the sky.
There is a crap ton of detail on this that does not come through, so please do look at my DA to see it in its full glory! OOC name :: Shady Name of the Entry:: "Any Way the Wind Blows" Summary or explanation of your entry:: I set this on what I imagine the floating island would look like from its surface: paradise! Though this vantage point doesn't show the waterfalls, I picked the stock for its tilt--below the meadow in the photo, a mountain and a lake are visible. Since I imagine that the view from here would be the veins of the gods and the ocean, I found it very fitting! I also was really inspired by Vossity's flower petals, so I added some dandelions in there. I wanted to portray the idea that the wind is always blowing on the island, due to its location in the sky.

OOC name :: Nevada Name of the Entry:: Dust in The Wind Summary or explanation of your entry:: The earth rumbles below your feet, violent cracks deep below the surface of the ocean causing animals to stir and run for safety. Shocked and confused, the roan fumbles over his own feet, long legs tangling up and causing him to slam to the quivering ground. One last unpleasant snap between ringing ears and the unconscious stallion is sprawled out on a smooth, circular rock, the sun finally making his slow and sleepy climb into the air. Round pebbles littler the neatly kept rock, amongst them the freshly snapped-off end of the white-flecked stallion's precious horn.
The sun had risen but hides behind a thick cloud of dirt that won't seem to leave the skies, warm rays struggling to reach the softly hued waters below. A cyan eye slips open, the next following after being taken off of the now grass covered ground; he blinks and blinks, vision blurred by some unwelcomed nap that he doesn't even recall lying down to take. Uneasily, the Warmblood clamors to his feet, swaying forward slightly as his head spun the world around and finding nothing below the next step. The cloak of sleep is gone, fear replacing groggy eyes with wide and excitable ones; a misguided squeal fall to the ocean below, his legs wheeling backward in an instant.
Wide eyes observe the new land within a millisecond, noting the endless pufts of clouds that sit below the vine decorated rock edges and the numerous cascading waterfalls that fade into the air. His heart beats excitedly in a broad chest: how exactly did he find himself at the edge of this world?

OOC name :: Peak Name of the Entry:: Burn Up Everything Summary or explanation of your entry:: Uh, Sun God. And clouds. I had originally intended to do all 4 gods, but I only started this 2/3 days ago and only just now finished the one. These god designs are no joke!

The story I've decided to go with (because it's a bit happier) is that this poor foal is new to Helovia and has no one - and she's lost and needs help.
