trust your heart if the seas catch fire

Over the sound of the booming, thrashing waters, between heartbeats and the whispering symphony of the wind there was a faint, muffled sound, like the frail patter of cloudburst against a tree's waxy canopy, soft and serene. It was like the airy trill of an undertone voice; as soft as the tenuous downfall of a butterfly's gossamer wings, and yet it was strident in the vaguest of manners. It was a silvery voice, coated in lavender and sweet, dulcet tones.

The sound was that of a gentle heartbeat, coming from somewhere within her, though the cadence was far to feeble to be her own. In a very intimate, maternal way - one that only a fellow mother may comprehend, maybe - a certain delicate hint of knowledge had been unveiled to her, more or less. Behind the darkened cloak of her eyes - although her body rested, intertwined with the dark form of her devout lover - her mind was far from dormant. She had realized a stark augury. A child - their child - now grew within her belly, the result of their initially frivolous display of amorousness of devotion. Her eyes fluttered open. Before her unfurled a gilded plain of amber and a vast expanse of blue.

Her head rose with her limbs sprawled out beneath her, her side lateral along the granular terrain below. She gazed out across the horizon, the golden line at the end of the world. It seem impossible that she would hear the heartbeat of a child so early, but not a single trace of incredulity shrouded her outlook. Perhaps it was her fore-seeing ability that gave her such certainty. Silence and tranquility bathed the land around her, and she turned to embrace her lover with eyes of soft, viridian cyan, she felt a smile curl her lips.

The great amber disk that was the sun slowly crept into the velvety cerulean of the morning sky, igniting the atmospheric canvas with a play of lustrous colors. The memory of his touch still lingered through her nerves, caused the capillary vessels of hair that
