With his blue gaze trained on the lava mare, he hardly noticed anyone else approach. Here he felt accepted and as the mare nodded to him, he began to relax and a with dip of his head he broke from her entrancing blue and orange gaze. The moments tick by, lengthened by the popping and oozing of the blue lava surrounding the island upon which they stood. Many others began to arrive, flocking to the island as though some force had pulled them here. Or perhaps they were not so different from him. Perhaps they had all just happened to come here - no guidance, no desire, no force. Just pure luck.

Miykael watched as the others filed in, recognizing a few but most he was seeing for the first time. The gold dusted white mare, Aurelia, asks for him to speak to her later but all he can manage is a nod in her direction. Many others follow - a brightly hued mare, two fillies, and then Kahlua. A smile dared to shape his lips. He contemplated going to her but she did not seem her usual happy self. As quickly as the smile formed, it was gone. Concern furrowed his brow for the black and white mare and though he longed to move towards her and comfort her - he simply couldn't. Just look at what he'd done to Alysanne. Anything he touched, it seemed, was doomed to suffer. A sigh escapes his lips, his heart forlorn, and refocuses on the lava mare.

Some spoke, others remained silent but soon the crowd was as large as the island seemed able to hold. It was then that the lava mare turned to Aurelia and her entire demeanor seemed to change. The orange of her eyes had spread and the flames reached upward and flickered around her ears. Her voice roared from the depths of her being - a frightening show, indeed. She turned then to the sky painted mare and though her anger had cooled, her words were nevertheless strong. The lava mare shifted fairly quickly from her to the well-meaning but misguided colt. Smoke billowed in his direction and after a brief reprimand, the lava mare gazed over the rest of the group before speaking again.

In truth, he wasn't sure of what to expect. He certainly hadn't even toyed with the idea that she would choose him. So when she spoke his name, his heart skipped a beat and his breath quickened. Confusion was the first to reign, followed by shock and finally acceptance. He had been chosen. Miykael did not dare to ask if she had been mistaken. Did not dare to stoke the flames. Instead, he bowed his head to her. A gesture that said so little and so much all at the same time. With his words caught in his throat, he makes eye contact with her again - silently he accepts her trust and faith in him. Silently he thanks her. Silently he tells her that he'll do everything he can for this life she has placed into his care. The egg, riding the surface of the blue lava follows the current produced by the mare and rolls to his hooves.

Carefully, he lowers his head and ever so softly sniffs the egg and brushes it - with a feather-light touch - with his velvety nose. The egg is nicely warm but under likely to burn his lips. Softly, tenderly, the stallion places his lips around the egg and with the utmost care, he lifts it off the ground. Weaving through the crowd he quickly finds his exit. His great, white wings remain tucked - he couldn't risk flying with the fragile egg so precariously grasped. His journey back home, it would seem, will be a long one. Though, he imagines, well worth it.
