“Heeee is saaaaaved!” At first, you are still sobbing so hard that you do not understand that the danger has passed; it is not until the icy prongs of the mist deer gently touch your skin that you look down and see the fawn, now sleeping soundly. You blink away the tears and shake your head in confusion…how could this be? But Kahlua is chattering away again, and the parents are thanking you, and you decide that it is simply easier not to question a miracle. You do not know what threads of deep magic hold this place together, and even if you did, you may have not understood the part you unintentionally played in this fawn’s story. Now that the imminent threat of death is gone, your concerns are closer to home. “I’m sorry,” you murmur quietly to Kahlua, amidst the happy sounds of celebration. You regret your outburst—of course her feelings are important, not to mention that she is your queen! Shame tints your cheeks pink at your horrible lack of manners.

But before you can express your embarrassment, storm clouds seem to darken the horizon. The clatter of icy hooves and dull booming of thunder herald their rapid approach, and with wide eyes, you realize that these aren’t ordinary storm clouds—these are the guards! “Goo! Ruuuun! Fooooollooooow iiice!” the doe cries, and instantly a glassy trail snakes through the grass at your hooves. You need no encouragement. Tender as your heart is, it is asking to much of you to linger in this strange place, and you are more than ready to go home. With a frightened whinny, you bolt into the trees, mane and tail streaming…and three little clouds trailing along behind you.
