"Why not both?" the mare cooed, tossing her muzzle flirtatiously in response to Quil's initial question. The conversation had turned in a direction that was entirely too serious for Phae's liking. And so, as the golden prince quite appropriately remarked upon the bonded companions that they both shared, Phaedra nonchalantly moved closer. The beauty had done her best not to let the prince's loyalty to the one-eared harpy show upon her features, but likely it had. Stallions' infatuation with her was often immediate, expedited by her magic. However loyalty was not something she experienced often, for just as quickly as their eye was drawn to her, it was similarly drawn away by something stronger: love. Oh, of course they all said that they loved her, but infatuation will do that to a boy, won't it? But it never lasted. Without actually knowing her - truly knowing who she was - her beauty was all they had to love. And while she was sure her memory burned in their minds when they were alone with themselves, a gentler sort of affection - love - often swept them away from her grasp entirely.
That Quil hadn't tried to defend his love at home was truly interesting...He seemed...conflicted. He had cast his magic upon her, that was true. He had forced a distance between the two, although it seemed it was only done because it should have been done. Likely because the prince realized how quickly things would have unraveled, had he not. But he was surely encouraging her with his words. And why not? No harm ever came from a little flirting.
Or did it?
As Quil moved towards her as well, Phaedra feigned hesitation, attempting to recoil without actually reducing the distance between the two. A delicate and genuine smile graced her pink lips, as her eyes glittered mischievously. Her neck arched as she threw back her head, issuing silver laughter that seemed to perfectly accompany the shimmery sparkle of her star-kissed mane.
Her lips twitched and danced as words paused there, unsaid. Sweetly sarcastic responses lingered, but Phaedra did not speak. Heat rushed to her cheeks, pulsing there rhythmically. The movement that only moments ago flooded her veins immediately stopped, and suddenly all she could see was the violet hues of his gaze, and his golden face. The world, once revolving had seemingly halted. Breathless, Phaedra exhaled, eyes batting gently. She turned herself to face him squarely, held tilted slightly. Upon her golden features, was a seemingly genuine express of honesty.
"Why sugar...because we're the same." She replied, sincerely. Her voice was as bubbly and melodious as ever, but even this could not mask the honesty in her words.
Phaedra's haphazardly spotted coat shivered slightly, but not from the temperature. Her oddly patterned wings hugged her curves ever tighter, as if to brace herself against whatever Quil might say next. Although she wore her mask of indifference easily, inside, a storm began to brew. True, the conversation had moved from the serious topic of losing a companion, but Phaedra wasn't entirely sure that she was happy where it had gone. This sort of honesty was just a little too close to the walls that she had built, even though she'd only revealed a few words.
