“Nothing,” he responds immediately, watching his friend who has curled up on the ground to inspect the deer from lower. Indeed, Adelric would love to curl himself upon the ground as well, to cuddle close to the cervid, but dangers still linger near (primarily Aeolus) and he will not put this little creature in danger. “But he likes you, I can tell.” Or is that him projecting, giving his own feelings to the deer and then having them returned to him? Or, alternately, is it that the deer can read Adelric and know that Erebos poses no harm? Adelric is curious about the implication and his mind immediately begins to whirl with wondering if Tobias was born with a personality of his own or if his personality became dependent upon Adelric’s from the moment that the deer was born and the two were linked, minds swirling together, performing a dance as ancient as time itself.

It did not occur to the half-child that the deer would have been privy to these musings, though, so when he receives a whirl of confusion in his head that is not born of his own heart and soul, he can’t help but smile. The deer must have some personality of his own, if he can be confused by the half-child’s thoughts and musings. Perhaps it is a little bit of both- that the deer had his own personality but that it is melded by Adelric’s thoughts and wonders. The half-child will have to further explore these ideas, for the deer’s mind seems too young now to have a meaningful conversation about these topics.

For a moment, his eyes drift to look down the long darkness of the cave, with mysteries deep inside of it, but a bleat from the cervid draws Adelric’s eyes back to him, looking to him as he almost seems to smile with amusement at having made noise in the general direction of Erebos’ face. Slowly, Tobias begins to rise, or tries to. The process is slow and cumbersome at best, but Adelric encourages the beast through their bond, believing that he can find the strength to rise. “Do you know anything about this?” he asks Erebos then, sure that his friend will have information that he does not. And it is information and help that he needs, for the half-child certainly knows nothing about caring for a companion. Where should he even start?
