The GOD of the SUN

Burn the whole world down

As those who wished to participate slowly filtered way, the God turned to the heavily marked stallion, who had remained. The sun stallion sneered at LACE's tone, but said nothing; his handsome features a fiery mask of indifference. LACE was after all, a follower of his sister, which made his second set of comments even more surprising. The God's dual-horned crown turned towards the masked outcast, burning gaze shining with haughty amusement. "You mean wandering around in the fog and clouds all day does not give you purpose?" He quipped, referring to the Edge. "You don't want to return, be ruled over by that boring painted mare? Help make little glass statues and deliver them, procuring peace in return?" The God scoffed, lashing his tail, which sent bits of liquid fire spilling onto the ground around him. "You have lived too long in the darkness, under the reign of my sister, to know anything of worth or beauty. Why do you not ask her to send you on a little task? You know how much she adores playing with her toys." The God wavered dangerously between anger at having LACE, a creature who had never pledged himself to the Sun, ask for this favor, and amusement. So many of his brother, the Earth's tribe were here. And now, a once loyal follower of the Edge, was asking him for a task. How fascinating. Just what were his siblings up to?

"In the Throat, there is a child. Cera. If you want a worthwhile task, visit him. He intends not to make pretty baubles or glass walls like the Edge, but useful items. If you want to know about the beauty of the sun LACE, visit my lands. See what the fog and shade of my sister's land has been hiding from you. If you want to do something worthwhile, then do it. Do you really think me telling you what to do imbues your tasks with worth?" Pausing this little rant, the God turned his head away. Look at him, giving away free advice - he sounded like the Earth. "You want a task? Build something in the Throat." He snapped, with finality.

Turning his gaze away from LACE, he watched the brilliantly colored form of BELLONA, as she darted away. His firey gaze narrowed, intent on keeping her fit form in shape, as she distanced herself even farther. In her wake, he could see FAEANNE following. Both beauties seemed to be trying to position themselves, causing a smirk to appear on the God's handsome features. Very clever, he thought to himself. He was glad that the two had proven to be not simply beautiful faces. What is she doing in the Falls? The God wondered, allowing his gaze to rest thoughtfully upon BELLONA. And the Edge? he thought of the grounded FAEANNE.

The younger filly with the companion - AMARA - seemed to mirror the choices of the other two. While the God would have preferred to see more creativity on her part, being clever did not always mean wasting one's mental resources by trying to do things differently. She had fulfilled his task.

As ELSA moved behind him, the God stepped forward. He could see what she intended, and did not want his flaming body to disrupt her plan. Although the air began to heat, that's all it did. His flowers began to glow, but not waver as they would within a mirage. Just before the God began to shake his head in rejection, he spied HECTOR taking wing and flying above them. As the great hybrid beat his wings, forcing cool air downwards, the air began to waver. HECTOR, such a team player. The God thought, mildly disappointed. Still, the team work had payed off.

The God turned now to ATHENA, who had marched off, only to return and begin to dig at his hooves. He frowned, wondering what good she possibly thought she was doing. Had his instructions not been clear? The God shook his head, and flicked his tail, causing liquid fire to fall into the hole she was digging and evaporate any water that she might have found.

A radiant smile parted the God's lips as he watched CIRRUS at work. He watched as her coat began to shift and change - and in the sky, the clouds too began to shift and change. Clever girl he thought, well-pleased with CIRRUS'. As she approached, the God's smile widened. "You are lost no longer, CIRRUS."

As CANEO addressed him, the flames that licked and danced upon the God rose suddenly, issuing a blast of heat. "Did you even listen-" He snapped impatiently, spinning easily on his golden hooves to face the horned stallion. "I said, bring the water to me. How is that going to be accomplished, if I leave?" With a flame-kissed wing, he gestured at those around him - both near and far - who had already completed his task. Turning smugly back to the pale unicorn, he sneered condescendingly. "Perhaps it is you who should leave." He suggested, as pools of liquid fire began to form around his hooves, threatening to race forward and scorch the ground upon which the unicorn stood.

The God could feel TANDAVI's magic as it tried to borrow from his own. He feared she could combust from the inside, but she appeared to be moderating the amount of power that she drew. The sun stallion smiled and nodded, but immediately withdrew the magic that she had mirrored. The feeling would likely leave her feeling hollow, but that was to be expected, and couldn't be avoided. He knew TANDAVI was a devout follower, but only his two daughters could manage the power of the sun running through their veins. He'd hate to see TANDAVI's pretty coat smeared in burning pieces on the grass. "You have indeed." He replied warmly, nodding in confirmation.

Turning now to AEOLUS, the God frowned as the colt spoke. "Just because you cannot touch something does not make it illusory." The God began. "Mirage's are not simply things that you are imagining. They are real, as are my flowers. Your imagination is useless."

The God watches as ARVAKL mirrors the movements of those before her. Somehow, her act of copying doesn't seem as efficient as AMARA's. Still, she has done what was asked of her.

Turning now, the God watches slightly amused at the antics of EREBOS and ADELRIC, as they dig a path towards his flowers. Too bad ATHENA hadn't waited longer, until CIRRUS' rain fall - her plan might have been more effective. As it was now, the youngster and the one with an egg had succeeded in causing CIRRUS' rain to pool beneath his flowers.

Intrigued, the God turned now to OPHELIA, who, after some deliberation, appeared to have a plan. His fiery gaze held fast to her light shape, as she worked deliberately and diligently, constructing some sort of maze. He was not surprised that OPHELIA came up with the most complex solution, nor that hers was the cleverest. It was why he adored OPHELIA, and why he had been so slighted by her actions in the past. Still, the shiny display that she had created reminded the God of the affection he still held for the hybrid, even if his vanity kept him from completely showing it. "Perfect." He said softly, looking earnestly into OPHELIA's dual-coloured eyes.

The God's stare was disrupted by light being cast in his direction. Turning, he looked to CICERON, who appeared to be trying to....blind him with light? Stomping a cloven hoof, the God snorted. "That is not how that works." He snapped, annoyed that such a brutish and barbaric tactic would be used, especially after OPHELIA's lovely demonstration. Was that what CICERON was trying to imitate? Perhaps. But he had succeeded only in shining light around. To create a mirage required a few more materials than just a reflective surface and some light.

The God watched as SOMNUS moved away - was he too going to follow the trail set out by BELLONA? It appeared not, for the stallion moved only a short distance away, not nearly far enough to cast an illusory mirage onto his flowers. Confused, the God has no idea what the stallion intends, and so briefly searches his mind for his motive. Connect the mirages? The God shakes his head. Mirages were created by real forces in the world, that couldn't simply be ignored.

The God chuckles as SHEBA plucks a flower - now overflowing with both dew, and water from CIRRUS' rain, and sprinkles it upon another. "Very resourceful." He notes approvingly.

The following have been moved forward.

  • Bellona
  • Ophelia
  • Arvakl
  • Faeanne
  • Hector
  • Amara
  • Adelric
  • Erebos
  • Elsa
  • Sheba
  • Tandavi
  • Cirrus

Caneo, Athena, Ciceron, Aeolus, and Somnus do not proceed, as their responses were unrealistic.

Zunden, Amani, and Rei do not proceed, as they failed to respond within 48 hours.

Random List, Roll.

Spreading his flaming wings, the God called back those who had distanced themselves from him. He was pleased with the responses he had received thus far - many had proven their cleverness and dexterity, but a few shone the brightest.

Turning to FAEANNE, the God radiantly smiled. "You are a beautiful child, even if you are broken within. But I see your potential. Leave the Edge - you have no place there. If you dwell in the Throat, under my watch and warmth, your heart shall be healed. I make this offer to you only once."

Turning to TANDAVI, the God again smiled, pleased with his healer. One of the golden flowers at the hooves of the God began to shimmer brightly, spinning slightly. It pulled away from its stem, as it floated gently into the air. Although the center churned with liquid gold, no moisture fell from the flower. The golden petals reflected the light of midday beautifully, as the blossom came to rest in the hair of the healer.

Before rewarding those he judged to be his champions, the God's gaze fell upon the aztec warrior, BELLONA. His fiery gaze surveyed her colorful form with intrigue. Such a beautiful creature, and so clever!...dwelling in the Falls? But why? What could the Falls possibly offer such a creature, that the Throat could not? She stood before him, seemingly desiring the effects of his magic more than the patron God of the lands she called home. What was the point? "Should you desire a home and a God truly befitting a creature of your beauty, you would do well to pay a visit to the Throat..." He said, smiling suggestively. "I assure you, our Oasis is quite...refreshing." Fire rolled down his sleek neck, as he flashed her a charming smile.

Finally the God's burning gaze landed upon HECTOR, one of his warriors. The Sun stallion looked at the rugged creature with approval. Shifting his gaze to SHEBA, the God smiled as well. Both had been clever, both had resorted to different tactics in answering his little challenge. "What is it you seek from me?" He inquired of the pair, his pronged crown moving from one to the other inquisitively.

Without moving or even changing anything about his appearance, the God spoke directly to OPHELIA'S mind. "Do not leave. Wait until the others have gone. You and I have .... things to discuss." His mental voice was tender, even if his outward appearance demonstrated nothing other than patient attentiveness to Hector and Sheba's desires.

Congratulations!

If Faeanne leaves the Edge and comes to live in the Throat, the God will immediately heal her heart-valve defect !

Tandavi has been given one of the flowers! She may wear it in either her mane or tail, if she pleases.

The Sun God will remain for continued conversation.
