Not surprisingly, your little stunt worked. And without the aid of all of the smoke and mirrors, you think smugly. Luckily for you, your solution seems to have pleased the fiery creature, and instead of burning you to a crisp, he rewards you with a golden smile and asks you what you seek. Of course, you cannot say that you are shocked—after all, he did forewarn the group that only the cleverest would receive his gifts. But still, his approval touches you unexpectedly somewhere deep within, and for a moment, you find yourself softening under his steady molten gaze.

However, before that dangerously lowered emotional drawbridge of yours descends any further, your attention is diverted by Pinkie, who’s decided to make a scene as she storms off. Typical, you muse derisively, feeling a sense of vindictive pleasure as you watch her circle above, clearly upset. It seems that the flaming stallion has also noticed Arvakl lingering, and before your stunned eyes, one of his flowers rises on its own, spewing fire at her perfect milky hide. From the disgusting smell of roasted meat, you have no doubt that she has been badly burned. And to think that could have been you…your eyes widen, and if you weren’t worried that it would offend your mysterious benefactor here, you’d be taking a few steps back right about now. The golden stag clearly has no regrets though, as he casually turns his attention back to you and to the few others he has singled out. “You were saying?” he asks, but you hesitate, still lost in the way he shot flames at Pinkie. You may not like the girl, but still…that had to be agonizing. You’re surprised that she hasn’t come crashing to earth with burns like those. Whoever is standing before you, he is much more powerful than you anticipated.

Unfortunately, your hesitation has cost you, and before you can respond, several others jump in front of you: first a silver male, next a little blonde girl, then a bossy mare whose loud design resembles some sort of ridiculous parrot, and lastly, the giant horned pegasus beside you. You wait impatiently, irked, but not daring to cause a stir—Arvakl made that mistake, and you’d rather not join her in her world of hurt.

And then, finally the others fall silent and it is your turn to speak. The flaming one has asked you what you seek from him, and you have wasted no time in considering. You want what you saw in the cave: the blessing of a silver tongue. “Well, my lord,” you begin, wisely choosing to imitate the others in your use of a respectful title, “I seek a simple gift. When I speak, I want others to listen.” It is not enough for them merely to hear you, but to heed you—that is what you would desire from the golden creature.
