I HAVE BURNED MY TOMORROWS, AND I STAND INSIDE TODAY
At the edge of the future, and my dreams all fade away
Ophelia could not help the bloom of pride that flourished in her chest when he said that her solution was perfect. Perfect? What an unattainable word, and yet she received it from the lips of a god. Had he forgiven her then? Had she forgiven him? In her desperation, she lost her dignity. She should be angry that he cast her out, upset that he threw a fireball in her direction! But despite her best efforts to be firm and furious, she was a moth to a flame in his presence. She always had been and most likely always would be. Still, that obsession did not help the fact that he had broken her heart, and she stood very still, trying to control her breathing and the tidal wave of mixed emotions.
Granted, that was not exactly easy when a mare, full of vibrancy and color, mentioned him. Osiris had been her best friend. He had been the reason she coveted a dragon. Comadre had been an essential part of her childhood, and she had fallen in a foolish, childish love with his wolfish counterpart. That love was only to be dashed by watched him and his true love on the beach of the Endless Tides, and now, she had to hear his name once more from the lips of another mare.
Why was the world so cruel?
Still, she knew Osiris, or at least she thought she did. So, after a brief glance to the God and a respectful bow of her head, she spoke. "Osiris was in my herd for a long time," she said quietly, remembering The Grey as if it were yesterday. "I saw him after the darkness had taken over the land and the light had returned." How long ago had that been? Nearly a year now.
"But, he has wolf family that draws him away. Perhaps he had to help his brothers and sisters in their pack." Any other reason for him to leave was not a pleasant one. Maybe he followed that gray pegasus mare home? Maybe they were happily a family and he had forgotten about her completely? She stifled a sigh. "Though that was the last time I had seen him, the God of the Sun may shed more light on his disappearance."
The God spoke in her mind then, telling her to stay back, and she replied in her head. "Yes, my Lord", she said, knowing that he could hear her thoughts. Her term of reverence was delivered naturally, and she waited for the child and the stallion, Hector, whom she remembered form long ago, spoke their desires. The white mare, this Sheba, had an interesting request, and she was immediately wary. Who would want such a power? Ophelia narrowed her eyes slightly but remained silent.
