As if fire was not enough, the blue, cloudless heavens began to spew snow, pure tiny particles and falling fast- only, as Kari stood amid the veil, he was neither cold nor wet. Ocean blue eyes wandered upwards curiously, squinting through long lashes to assess the substance descending. At least the flames rising up his shaggy foreleg had been extinguished, the skin beneath blistered, the hair singed and smelling like something freshly roasted. It was quite repulsive, and the colt fought the urge to investigate. The weather was far more entrancing anyway.

Moist warm tongue extended suddenly to taste the air and caress twitching lips. This isn’t snow! It was too sweet, a little crunchy, neither of which he could remember a blizzard being. It was quite delicious actually, and jaws parted as his chin lifted to sample more of the falling treat. Goats were still barrelling by up the side of the mountain, and it occurred to Kari suddenly that their number was dwindling while he stood idle- it was a race that he would very likely lose at the rate he was travelling. With a mind reeling beneath the effect of gobbled sugar, the colt began again to move, leaping with agility he found hard to believe from one small rocky protrusion to another.

There was a rumble ahead, above, and his gaze danced warily to find its cause. Rocks scattered around him, the first perhaps of a greater landslide, but it was not the rocks which worried him at that moment. Again the glow of intense fire laminated his fearful eyes. He was wiser though second time round, unwilling to fall victim to the burning magic as it trekked voraciously to find him. The little goat paused to gather his strength, and as the fire bore down, he hurled himself right and well out of the way. Stones still clattered down around him, threatening the climb of those around him- and they seemed to be multiplying.

Kari’s confidence was growing with every successful leap, and every conquering bound. He felt sure footed, nimble, and not as frail as he had less than an hour before. As the rocks tumbled by, the colt dodged them carefully, eyes peeled and heart pounding to the thrum of coursing adrenaline. "Blaaaa!" he cried out bravely, furrowing his brow and launching again through the air.
