Having finally completed the tasks that the Lord of Fire had requested of her, the queen found herself wandering about the island and considering what to do. There was no shrine here on the island, yet it floated above the veins. Surely this place was as holy as the ground below it. And, truth be told, now that she had finally gotten back up here, she was not so eager to return to the mainland. She had spent quite a bit of time in the Edge lands recently and she wanted to have fun up here now, instead of being forced into responsibility down below.

On her back, the queen’s dragon rode silently, his mind probing into hers despite the fact that she was still not so certain about this bond. And yet, despite her fears, she had slowly grown to appreciate the presence of the young beast. He was a good friend to her already, patient and willing even while she was frightened. Was this the love that others had spoken of? Beautiful, not frightening? Wings to lighten the load, not chains to drag her down? She had been uncertain of the claims and yet… perhaps the love she had known as a child was not what love really was. If only there were so simply to believe.

To her left, Kahlua considered wandering towards a pool of water that was running over the edge of the island as a waterfall, but that seemed an affront to the god who claimed light and fire as his to command. Instead, she veered right, heading towards a rocky but open parcel of land, warmed by the early morning sun. “Sun Lord?” she queered aloud softly, though it was really her mind that reached out to the deity. Crawling up her neck in curiosity as to what she was doing, the little blue chortled his draconian song.

Kahlua’s neck bent downwards to the pressure, her nose moving towards her chest in a sign of respect. The Lady Moon had told her that queens did not kneel, but surely it was proper to bow her head to the lord who had been so kind to grant her this quest. So she stood in the field, praying that he might come to her so that she could thank him for forcing her into these uncomfortable philosophical discussions that she had learned so much from.

@[Official] Turning in the quest she was granted here.
Non-racist unicorn, racist unicorn, non-racist equine, and racist equine. For the final thread, I know it is not completed, but as I have been waiting 7 weeks for a reply and have reminded Selkie about it, and also because Sorrow is the only character currently active on site that could fulfil this requirement, Tamme said I could turn in the quest without it being complete. If Selkie does post to the thread again, I will complete it.

The GOD of the SUN

Burn the whole world down

"So-"

The God's voice rumbled lazily from everywhere and no where. "Do you still think you can do this Sunshower?" He asked, with particular mocking emphasis on the sun in her title. Had she come to her senses? Realized that racist thoughts were merely one insignificant thread in the framework of the hatred that a mortal mind could weave? Perhaps this was all merely some guise...something that this Sister had bade her do. Without racist thoughts, did they think they could slip into the Basin unnoticed? Perhaps hold both lands? Now there was a thought ...

In a pillar of fire, the God once again revealed himself. Flames licked the ground stopping just short of Kahlua's hooves, as the burning deity stood before her, burning with an undeniable beauty and brilliance. His gaze blazed seemingly into her very soul, scrutinizing her carefully. No... he thought with a tedious folding of his wings. This one truly believes in her cause. How pathetic. She would be proven wrong in time.

The familiar voice of the Sun Lord came to her from all around, though as she peaked her eyes open he was nowhere in particular to be seem. Truth be told, he frightened her somewhat; he was passionate and flaming, rather unlike the cool steadiness of her land’s patron. Still, she had to smile a little bit at the dramatic entrances that the gods so often employed. Regardless, the daft woman hardly noticed the disdain in his voice when he emphasized ‘Sun’, and what she did notice of it she did not take as rudeness.

But more importantly, did she think she could do this? As he arrived in his flaming brilliance, she responded, skipping back a step or two in avoidance of the fire that came so near to her. “With your help, I hope so.” She dare not claim that she could do this. After all, looking back and seeing how the pressures of her queendom had affected her, she could never be certain of anything. But she had to try, and anyways, it seemed she was getting some help. “This island has seemed to bring out the best in all of us.”

While she was speaking, the little blue descended from her withers to the ground, crawling forward to investigate the rocks that had been heated by the flames of the deity. Absently, the queen looked down to him, but gave him no direction or instruction. She was a poor teacher and guardian at best; the little blue would have to learn many of the pains that the world brought on his own, it seemed, for the queen’s addled mind was a poor life coach.

The GOD of the SUN

Burn the whole world down

He sighed; an exhaust of smoke and ash that scattered at his feet. She continued to dwell in her obscurity, wanting so much to see peace that she stared into a distant fantasy. Perhaps she thought the magic would bring clarity, but the God of the Sun only saw in her the gaze of one destined to fall blind.

He had hoped that the quest he'd laid out before her would clear her mind and open her eyes. He had hoped that she would have learned something, anything! Yet she returned with all the confidence of the world. Her own world of pretend he thought with annoyance. In this moment he had half a mind to refuse her. The thought was only aided by her cruel comment that he would help her achieve her demented goal. He wanted no part of himself besmirched by her fool's errand.

He dipped into her mind, curious as to just what exactly she did learn. Like a lightly burning candle flame her weaved through her memories, but was not impressed by what he found, which should not have been surprising. No wonder his sister had a preference for this mare, she was easy to mold and trick.

He sighed once more. The sound was harsher, more exasperated. He didn't have the time or the patience for this, but if she would not learn at his request, then she would learn through her own failure. "It has not bought out the best in all of us," he warned, his voice thick with threat, like a dry and windy day that promised a raging fire soon to come.

The God of the Sun moved to turn away, his tail a paintbrush of flames as he did - one which stroked a new picture upon her. In a painless, though intensely bright and warm embrace, his fire cocooned her body, settling into it with a slow fade that that never seemed to quite vanish, not yet at least. Until the rise of the sun tomorrow Kahlua would retain a faint glow - a clear reminder to his sister that he had touched her queen.

"You would do well to see beyond what lies just before you, including this place." he offered as a warning just before he disintegrated into one of the nearby sunbeams, his voice floating towards her even after his physical appearance had dissipated. Racism was not all that plagued this land.

Ah, if only the queen could have seen what pain she caused the Lord of the Sun, what frustrations were welling within him, she might have tried harder to be smart or educated or learned or enlightened. But since she was not any of those things and pretending to be so was far out of her grasp, she simply stood there in her idiocy and smiled at him with all of the brilliance that she could muster. It was really Khan who got the worst end of the deal, since the smoke and ash that were propelled from the god’s nostrils fell and the heat of an ember struck the dragon on his wing. Squeaking his displeasure, the small beast scuttled backwards and looked as offended as his draconian gaze could muster.

Frowning at the god’s mention that this island was not so good as it seemed, Kahlua politely disagreed with him in her mind but continued her foolish smiling outside. Perhaps she had just caught him on a bad day, or troubled him when he was busy occupying himself with matters more important than she was. No, no matter what he said, she was convinced that this place was good. Whatever she did, it seemed to work, as she was suddenly shrouded in flames. For a moment she started, surprised at the warmth that faded but the glow that did not seem to.

“Thank you,” she said in response to him, trying to understand the crypticism in his words but not really understanding what it was she needed to see. However, she would not get to know, as the god soon disappeared. Regardless, the queen would not be brought down this day. Smiling brightly, she hummed a song as she gathered the dragon, who was still nursing his injury, and began to trot off.
