This is what I would have you see.

Gaucho is distracted. Much weighs on his mind. There is the murder of Vesta, fellow herdmate and warrior-sister. Her death lingers in the depths of his primitive mind - an itch that demands attention. He will avenge her death somehow. He will find whoever ended her life, and do the same to them without so much as asking for a reason. There is also his sons and missing daughter. Sohalia, and Ampere, and the bitter struggle he feels between an obligation he doesn't understand, and a carnal craving that he does. Another itch that wants to be scratched. There is Oxy and the group they have assembled to avenge Vesta, but there is also his role once again as Sultan of the Throat, and all the responsibilities that accompany that position. It is the latter that explains why Gaucho has come to the Island.

It was here last that the Sun God was seen. It was that golden savior that Gaucho sought.

Gliding on wings etched in flame, the WildFire drew near to the land, gently sweeping the rocky precipice with his hooves as his body lowered. Gaucho's stormy gaze was heavy, but determined. He knew what he came here to do, and was confident that the Sun God would approve of his plan and provide assistance in one way or another. Everything the sun stallion did was for the deity, even this request was merely a homage to His power.

Gaucho knew nothing about calling Gods or prayer. He simply knew that when he needed him the Sun God had always appeared.

Rearing up, Gaucho seemed to exploded with fire. His wings beat towards his sides, causing a wave of flames to explode from his darkened feathers. From his antlers, a swarm of firey birds rocketed - small bursts and pops of fire, crackling and igniting on a flurry of burning wings. Into the sky the arc of flames and the swarm of birds flew. Gaucho's antlers pulsed with the light of the Sun God in time with the pulsing of the wings of his fire birds.

All the power he had came from the fiery deity. Let it be enough to drawn him down from the sky.

[Gaucho is using his VOTG pass. Would like to speak with the God about the sekrit one-time magic he wants.

-Set after the herd meeting/formation of the murder-solving group]

The GOD of the SUN

Burn the whole world down

There is much chaos in the land, but the God of the Sun will always have time for his devoted followers. And in this moment, it is obvious that his most devoted and most loyal is in need. Still, the god lingers for a moment, watching the fiery display that is clearly meant for him. He sees the fire, the molten birds, the way the light pulses in time with the flight of the conjured avian creatures, but he also sees more. In the explosive exhibition he also sees the waves of Gaucho’s devotion, swirling tendrils of flame that may not look out of the ordinary to Gaucho but that speak to the fervent desires in the Wildfire’s heart.

One of the fiery birds begins to do a dance that is different from the others, twisting and cavorting through the air away from the Sultan. It is from this bird that the Sun God materializes, the bird rapidly shrinking and then exploding soundlessly. The light and heat radiate out, enveloping all of Gaucho, causing his markings to glow brighter for a few seconds but not burning him. When the brilliant display has finally faded, the Sun God stands before his devotee, a pleasant smile on his face. “You’ve made good use of the memories I returned to you,” he says fondly, pausing a moment to look at the barbaric beast who now rules his land. Africa’s failings have displeased him, but perhaps led to a more fitting (in his eyes) leadership. “Why do you have need of me, Wildfire?”

All the while, any clouds that might have been overhead seem to slowly dissipate and the island air that was already warmer than winter should be heats up further. Even the ground below, made of dirt and lush grass, begins to seed with some grains of sand. Even here in this paradise, the Sun God calls the desert to himself.

The Sun God came, born out of the fire created by Gaucho but gifted to him by the fiery deity. The circularity of the cause of his arrival made Gaucho feel small and fully encompassed by awe and reverence. He would follow the Sun God to the end of the earth should he ask - there would never be a task too difficult, immoral, or impossible. Not if given to him by the Sun God. Gaucho would follow him faithfully forever.

Not one to waste time on pleasantries (not that conversation was something Gaucho was particularly good at), the dun simply bobbed his head in acknowledgement of the God's words, before getting right down to it:

"Gaucho need magic." He began simply, his stormy gaze fixed solely upon the enigmatic gaze of his Idol. In his antlers, Mara twisted, mentally reprimanding her bonded for being an idiot. "That not mean magic Gaucho has is not enough -" He clarified, fumbling for the words to rectify any implication that the magic the Sun had bestowed on him already was somehow insufficient. "- this magic for Throat. Throat has been attacked before - by basin yewwneekorns. Those without wings sneak in - like Mawwjaaa." The Dun's teeth clamped together as he recalled how close the Throat had come to allowing Mauja into their ranks (or had they?). He remembered the ambush, and how he and Midas had been drawn away under false pretences, unable to defend the Throat. They had survived that Invasion, but only because the Basin had been greedy and tried to attack two lands at once. Had they put all of their force at the Throat, they might well have crumbled. But it wasn't only that. Before, under Kri's reign and even prior, the Throat had been primarily a herd of winged creatures. Others could join, but the might of the Throat persisted through the aerial advantage that each member possessed. Now, patrols were laborious and tedious given that the pegasi had to wait for their ground-bound partners. Gaucho was not racist, but if the Throat was to regain its strength he needed to be sensitive to the types of advantages that the different species could bring to the table. Not only that, there was Sohalia's academy to consider. By training those from other herds, the Throat needed to ensure their safety while attending the school. Given the darkness that was once again creeping into Helovia, the WildFire needed to ensure the protection of those within his borders. There was only so much he could do again incorporeal threats, but physical threats? Well. There was much he could do about that.

All of this was displayed prominently in the WildFire's mind as he humbly looked to the God. "Gaucho need magic to make Throat an island."

With a proud grin, the WildFire looked to the God for approval. "Gaucho want magic to destroy land-bridge."

The GOD of the SUN

Burn the whole world down

A quizzical brow raises as his dedicated follower states simply that he needs more magic, the Sun God instantly curious what else the dun could possibly need. Faced with another demanding such things from him he might have grown angry or frustrated, but for now he waits. He knows the Sultan thinks better than he can speak aloud and indeed, he is rewarded for his momentary patience. Clarity comes, though hardly in the form he expected it to. Quickly growing bored with the strained words speaking history he already knows, the god instead beings perusing the Sultan’s mind. The maneuver is more rewarding as Gaucho’s thoughts are easier to follow, and the god quickly understands the reasoning behind the words that follow.

Still, he won’t pretend he’s entirely pleased.

“You’re asking me to allow you to destroy something I gifted to you,” he says with a frown. His voice is still gentle enough, but he grows silent as he thinks over the matter. He has entrusted his land to Gaucho and the Wildfire has not failed him yet. Of course, he can see the benefits to the solitude that Gaucho proposes; nevertheless, it is difficult for him to overcome his prideful nature to protect what is his. And there are also drawbacks- what of the members of his herd without wings? And they will be alienating two-thirds of the potential residents of the Throat, at least in some ways. Still, if the Throat members cannot protect their land then they will lose and then there will be none of them left. The god’s frown deepens.

“I will help you,” he says at last, having weighed the pros and cons within his mind, “But you propose solitude for the Throat.” Pausing a moment for the Sultan to process, he continues, “You will gather fuel from beneath the sands of the endless blue and spread the fuel on the bridge but you must know what it feels like not to hear or feel or see the rest of the world yourself before you force it upon your citizens.” Any other day the god might linger, but today the world was threatening to collapse under the weight of some murderous monster. The deity suddenly collapses once more into the form of the flame bird that Gaucho had conjured, flitting briefly around the Sultan’s head before flying upward into the sky, disappearing into the eternity of the blue sky as the land around the Wildfire returns to its original state.

OOC| Gaucho’s quest is as follows:
1. Collect oil residues from beneath the sands of the endless blue. While doing this, and for any threads started between parts 1 and 2, he cannot hear what anyone says.
2. Spread the oil residue along the land bridge. While doing this he cannot feel any touch.
3. Before the land bridge can be destroyed, he must complete two threads where he cannot see any living creatures (but still can see landscape, hear everything, feel everything, etc.). This effect will continue for one thread after the land bridge is destroyed.

Gaucho can feel the Sun God enter into his mind, can feel him peering into his thoughts. It isn't a new feeling - he felt the warming touch of the deity not long ago, when the God decided to restore Gaucho's memories. As the God spoke, Gaucho resisted the urge to justify his actions and intentions. Surely the God saw the boat he would have the crafters make? He had already mentioned to Bucephalus that he would need assistance ... and Cera ... well, the child had stormed off after their last herd meeting, the God himself was there to see it. Gaucho had come here, to the Island to investigate, but after he returned he planned on speaking with the Forger.

The Dun didn't intend to isolate his herd, just limit the threads that could infringe upon their safety.

Relying on Mara to retain the detailed steps the pair would need to fulfill before completing their task, the WildFire nodded humbly.

As the God disappears into the form of a fiery bird, Gaucho can feel the world growing slightly less bright and considerably more cold. Within his soul the effect is mirrored: everything seems brighter and stronger within the aura of the God's presence, and without him, the world pales.

Still, Gaucho has his tasks set out before him. He will need to dig to reach what is bellow the sands at the Endless Blue ... but how will he contain it? He will ask Cera for a basket, and possibly speak some sense into him while he is at it.
