"Just a little farther now. We're almost there." Bucephalus nickered to the twin colts, waiting for them atop a sand dune, his ears pricked sharply. The sun had long since surrendered to the moon, and as brutish as it made him feel, Bucephalus had urged the colts onward through the night towards the desert. His main concern was for Levex; in the colt's emaciated state the trip would seem incredibly long, and Buce tried frequently to stop and allow the poor youngster to rest and eat. Alas, if only they could fly, their trip would have been much shorter.

Bucephalus turned his head, scanning the sand dunes for any familiar landmarks. There! His gaze landed on the rough stone with a vague furrow, and amusement flickered through him. Hard to forget that stone. They were close, very close. He turned to watch the colts again, gold eyes concerned. What would happen? Technically both colts were claimed by the Edge, but with no one there to take them, and him not knowing the way...what else could he have done? He'd have to race to find their mother; both to ease her heart and correct the colts's paternal identity crisis. How did he wind up in these situations?

"We're just a little ways away, maybe another hour. Can you two young stallions make it?" He asked, phrasing it as a challenge. As a colt, he stood up for any challenge, and was hoping they would be the same. It would get the two to the safety of the Throat that much faster, and allow Bucephalus to seek out their mother.

Things had kinda happened before he had a chance to think everything through. First he had managed to find his brother but now they were some sandy place he had never been to before following some stranger who Levex claimed was their father. What mess had he managed to get them into now?!?

Stifling a yawn the colt shook his head to fight back the exhaustion that was slowly eating at his energy. Mother and him had traveled around a lot looking for Levex but this was definitely the farthest he had been from home. When the landscape began changing before his eyes he officially proclaimed himself completely lost. Instead of the white powder coating the layers of brown and greenish colours there only seemed to be gritty pale browny stuff everywhere. It was strange and it was equally difficult to walk on as the snow for it tried to suck your feet down as you stepped in it. Pausing for a moment as the others continued to walk along he lowered his head to snuffle at the dirt to try and figure out what it was. Where was daddy taking them? Turning to face back the way they had come he looked up at the sky wishing that momma was here with them too. Ignoring the persistent grumbling of his stomach he tried to ignore his hunger the best he could not really caring much for the other food around them yet. He wanted to go home... wherever that was.

Flicking his ears back as father's voice sounded he turned back around with a soft sigh moving to catch up with his brother once more. " Where are we going daddy?" the colt asked only when he had managed to catch up and see that only more grit lay ahead of them. "Where are all the trees?" Everything looked the same out here how did they know where they were going anyways? Not wanting to sound like a whiny colt he refrained from asking anymore of the bazillion questions floating around his head. Instead he tried to bat his wing lightly against his brothers side more for something to keep himself awake and moving. At least father had said that it wasn't much farther.

Can you two young stallions make it? Lifting his ice blue gaze to stare up to daddy he nodded trying to be enthusiastic despite his weariness. Swinging his head to nip playfully towards Levex he bounced forward a step or two. " Race you to the top!" He shouted with a grin as he tried to leap forward in the attempt to get a head start. It would have worked better if not for this funny dirt trying to suck him backwards. Only succeeding in moving faster for a couple paces he tried to bound his way through the obstacle with much difficulty.

trickster!

The journey was a demon that was constantly chasing his tail. Better yet, on the first night of his travels with father and his brother, when the lord moon dipped below the horizon Levex felt his soul cry out in misery. The moon and all of its splendor was everything to him, its shades of white and blues reflected the shade and power of his magic. Levex’s heart wanted nothing more than to allow his wings to unfurl and carry him up to that sphere of power so that he could ask audience. But that would be too bold, and the disappearance of the moon reminded him that he could indeed not fly very far yet, and that his sore muscles and aching bones where punishing him for pushing himself too hard to return home.

But father for some reason made this journey to someone’s throat easier on the colt by allowing him to rest, graze, and doze off a few times during the trek. But the youngster’s mind often wandered during the day, cursing the sun, and cursing the heat as the ice colt’s pace started to slow as exhaustion started to nip at his hocks in an uncomfortable manner. ”Dad?” He would stammer under his breath as his breathing quickened as they finally made it to the edge of the territory and the temperature seemed to soar even higher than before. What Levex wouldn’t give to turn right around and stamp his little hooves right back to the threshold and wallow in the snow like a wild boar.

Soon enough though the sun dipped back down under the horizon (where it belonged, that infernal ball of rift raft.) And his secret moon lover ascended back to the heavens. This alone made the youngster perk his ears and snap his tail in excitement as he turned his head to the left and then to the right. Soon enough he would be able run amuck and cause all types of childish chaos. Father’s next words only confirmed exactly what he was thinking as he tossed his head and quietly accepted the challenge.

Lips though flashed in his peripheral vision as he caught the words of his brother, and found himself teasingly flattening his ears before attempting to nip him back, shocked as his brother launches himself forward and up the dune. Thoughtlessly Levex followed, his hind hooves pushing off against the sand as he went charging after his brother with a loud challenging neigh slipping from between his lips.

Ha. Trickster! He would win this one.

Levex crashed forward, his gangly front legs stretched then too far, sliding through the sands as his hind hooves tried to make purchase and failed. Teetering backwards, the colt found himself rump first into the sand and sliding down the dunes squealing with excitement at this interesting new game. But unfortunately, Levex found himself flopped down rump first right back where he started, in front of daddies legs. Didn’t work out exactly how he had planned. Oh well, better luck next time.

Bucephalus watched the boys flounder up the dune, a faint laugh coming from him. Being born on the sand made walking on it second nature to him, but these colts weren't so lucky. He supposed it must seem awkward and impossible to move. He held back a laugh when Levex slowly slid down the dune on his arse, and the black lowered his head to nudge the colt to his feet. "There are no trees here, save at the oasis, the giant pond. Then there are a few trees." He replied to Aeolus, walking up the dune once he made sure Levex was well.

His gold gaze flickered to the stone, then the sky, watching the stars as the moon began her dance, heralding the velvet of darkness. His gaze locked on a bright star to their side, and he grinned. The North Star never failed him. So he turned, walking a ways until he could see the unique shape of the Dragon's Blood tree. Well, they were closer than he thought.

Buce turned his head and nickered once more to the twins, gesturing to the faint tree with a wing. "Where that tree lies, the herd is just beyond, across the oasis." He said, refolding his wing and turning to look at the tree, ears pricked before he began walking once more, glancing back to check on the twins.

Floundering like a fish out of water to climb through the dune the brindled colt heaved a frustrated snort when nothing he seemed to do made things any easier. His feet were used to digging into the soft earthy ground and gaining traction to propel him forward. Running in this was just plain hard! Half choking on the dust he kicked up in the process the boy finally stopped trying to run and just stood staring up at the top wishing he could just fly up there instead. Turning to see where his brother had managed to get to he found himself in hysterics. There was Levex butt down like a puppy sitting in the sand with a look of amusement plastered across his face. "I won! I won!" He chanted happily tossing his head about playfully.

When everyone had finally made it to the top he looked up to his father wondering where they needed to go from here. From where he stood everything looked the exact same as the rest of it so he hadn't a clue. Positioning himself practically pressed up against his father he craned his head up trying to see whatever tree he was trying to describe. Scanning his blue eyes from side to side he found something that might be considered a tree in the near distance, definitely nothing like he was used to seeing back home. "That's a tree? It don't look like a tree..." he commented turning his head sideways to see if it looked more treelike from the side.

Not finding any angle that made it look any better the colt sighed completely giving up. Making his feet move forward once more he eyed the descent down the opposite side of the dune. It didn't seem all that steep from where he stood.. Ah what the hell the faster they got there the sooner they could rest. Launching himself forward awkwardly the colt unfurled his wings in an attempt to glide down the hillside. While the idea seemed like a good one at the time turns out it actually was not. Gliding no more than 5 feet he landed back on the sand only to feel the ground continue to slide around him. Completely unbalanced with no solid footing his momentum sent him tumbling head over hoof to the bottom of the dune. Groaning the colt lifted his head only to see things spinning in circles around him. Well that definitely did not go as he had planned. Pulling his legs from underneath him he tried to heave himself up only to stand for a moment before feeling himself falling sideways once again. Well this was a weird feeling.

As the sound of frolicking and tiny voices reached his ears, Gaucho's head rose. His patrol had ended, but his responsibilities never would. With Sohalia busy with the academy, he had been left not only in charge of the military decisions of the Throat, but its political ones as well. Those he found the most taxing. Gaucho would rather fly the entire border of the Throat twice over, than to have to deal with the questions of his herd, and the welcoming of new members. It was not because he didn't think they deserved his time, but simply because ... well, that was Sohalia's job. That he had to do it weighed heavily on his mind. It was not like her to shirk her duties in this way, and although he knew that the Academy was important to her, the Throat had to come first.

Wanting sleep, but instead forcing his body to stand, Gaucho rose from the sands. Shaking his entire body to rid the remaining granules from his coat, the Wildfire made his way towards the sound of voices.

The dark patches around his eyes appeared even darker than normal, and the flames that lingered on his wings were not as bright or high as normal. Still, the Wildfire was a sight to behold. From the primitive markings that adorned his chiseled figure, to the serpent that proudly wrapped herself around his glowing antlers, Gaucho was anything but weak, even in his fatigued state. His dark ears flickered forward at the sight of Buce with two youngsters, wondering what to make of the scene. His new crafter, escorting two younglings that did not belong to his herd was perplexing. Was this meant to be child labour? Had be brought the two here to help him push rocks and whatnot?

Trotting forward, the Wildfire halted once he was a few strides away from the odd trio tossing his head. "Buce." He greeted solemnly, his voice rough and leathery sounding. He let his gaze obviously slip towards the two children, eyes narrowing. They were both young, near the age of his own two sons, but what purpose did they have here?

"Why here." He asked pointedly, looking back to Buce now. Part of him was irritated by the amount of children that had washed up on his borders, for they all seemed rather useless. He hoped that the crafter wouldn't disappoint him, in so far as he needlessly burndened the Throat with the care of two children.

Buce laughed softly at Aeolus's confusion. "There are many kinds of trees." He said, then blinked when the colt tried to glide down the dune...and failed. Swiftly Bucephalus sprang down the side, skidding to a halt and checking to make sure Aeolus was alright, and nothing was broken. Satisfied that the colt was well, Buce lifted his head just in time as the Wildfire descended from the sky. His ragged appearance was mildly startling, and the black's head tilted faintly. But he dipped his head in greeting to his Sultan, and turned to the colts. "Aeolus, Levex, this is Gaucho, the Sultan of our herd, the leader."

But then Gaucho's words hit Buce, and he turned to the black-winged stallion. "They're here because there was no where else for them to go. I found Levex," he gestured with a wing towards Lev, "in the Threshold. Then his brother came, from World's Edge. I would have taken them there, but i do not know the way, and do not trust a colt's sense of direction." As he spoke, he wanted nothing more than to bash his head against a rock. Saying it aloud made his decision seem idiotic. "I plan to go to the Edge and find their mother, it will only be for a few days, a week at most." He said, glancing back at the two.

What a mess. Two colts with a paternal identity crisis, one rough-around-the-edges Sultan, and then one idiot who managed to bring all of them crashing together. Wonderful.

Remaining sitting in the sand was about the only logical decision that the boy could manage to make given that his vision was doing circles around him. Looking up to what he assumed was the sky a descending blob caught his attention. Was he imagining things or was some creepy looking bird coming towards them? Shaking his head he was relieved to find that it corrected his eyesight but somehow didn't fix his vision of the thing coming towards them. Squinting up against the sunlight he could finally make out that it was a pegasus not a bird but it had some weird pointy things on its head. Were they antlers?

Staring up at the stranger with a mixed expression he chanced a glance back to Levex to see if he was seeing the same thing. What happened to give this pegasus antlers? Maybe his momma was a deer? Well it made sense to the colt so that had to be the answer. Pulling his spindly legs from under himself once more he stood again thankfully remaining standing this time round. His entire body was now itchy thanks to the stupid sand and he could feel it sticking to places that there should never be sand. Fidgeting uncomfortably as he attempted to shake away the granules he perked his ears as the antler man finally spoke.

Turning to face the stallion Levex had claimed to be their father he grew mildly irritated when neither antler dude or daddy spoke to them. "Daddy, I knew where I was going!" He commented irritably furrowing his brow. What was with grown ups always talking around them like they didn't have ears. If you had asked I could have shown you! leaving this part unspoken he couldn't help snort in annoyance. Flicking his relatively short tail against his flank he turned his head to bite at the annoying sand grains that were stuck everywhere in his coat. Why did anyone live out here?

Gaucho stared flatly at Buce as he spoke, clearly unmoved by the need for the foals to have a caretaker. It was not his problem, nor should it be the burden of his herd. What was the point of bringing these two here? Why did Buce feel as though it was his responsibility to look after them, and ensure they found their way back? His own sons who appeared no older than these two could find their way home should they get lost. As if to reinforce this sentiment, one of them, the one with the brightly coloured wings indicated the same. Gaucho's nostrils flared as his stormy gaze fell upon Aeolus, nodding in confirmation until the word daddy infiltrated his thoughts.

Daddy? How could this stallion have a child here? He had only just arrived ... A puzzled and annoyed look briefly crossed the Wildfire's features as he turned to Buce.

"Daddy?" He asked speculatively, his voice deep and flat. Either the colts were staying here, or they weren't. If they weren't clearly they could be on their way. If they were..."If they stay, they can help you find stones, or find herbs for healers." Pausing, the weight of his gaze shifted to the two colts. "If stay, help." He concluded, his words directed at the two - this wasn't a beach vacation nor was it a babysitting service. The Throat was a family and sloth was not tolerated here. Gaucho's gaze returned to Buce, assuming that his words were clear enough.

His wings unfurled gently from his sides, the flames that lined his feathers casting a warm glow upon the sands. Snorting, his blocky antlered skull twisted slightly to the right as if to ask if there was anything else. Gaucho was keen to return to his patrols.

[Am I changing any ranks? Are either staying? :D]
