As Ghost wandered the increasingly green landscape of the Hidden Falls, her mind was occupied by a hole in her ranks, a hole left by both her and a certain colourful talent. When Ghost had risen to take the reins formally held by Seele, she had hoped Bellona would step into where she had left off in the spy department; the peacock girl was talented after all. She had scuppered many plans and protected her herd diligently; there was no other who had seemed worthy of the task at the time. Bellona had been the perfect candidate. Despite all this the mare had disappeared and it had been a while now since Ghost had seen the feisty girl’s form stalking the land. Had something happened to her? The Cadaverous was keeping weathered eyes and keen ears in hopes of learning her whereabouts, but until then her family was in need of another who could aptly work the shadows before others from rival herds learnt of the weakness in their armour.

For a long time Ghost had no idea who would suit the position. Should she ask a warrior to change roles? Would they have the right level of thought and action, it was a rank that needed to be threaded finely and neatly in order to protect and not be caught. A medic perhaps? Then again, they needed all the healers they could right now; the land was being plagued by various deaths and strange events. It would be irresponsible to leave the ranks short on healers. Part of her wondered if she should consult Midas, but this was almost personal. It was a role she had fulfilled herself and a role very much close to her heart. No. She would be the one to do it, whether her golden counterpart liked it or not.

After a few weeks a name began to crop up here and there, small telling’s of good deeds and loyalty. A new name who might just be tailored to the empty role. However, Ghost had never met this girl and this was the reason she walked through the spring filled Falls to find a face to fit the name with hopes that this mare would be suitable and willing. There had been a gap in the area for too long and right now it really needed filling.

For the third time in a short number of days, Ghost raised her lips to the wind and called out a name. Essetia.

Her name is lifted to the wind… uttered so casually from foreign lips. For a moment, the mare is hesitant to respond but the feminine tones offer her a sense of security. Quickly, Essetia rouses Romul from a midday nap and before he can protest or refuse her, she reaches across their bond with urgency, “We’ve been summoned.” The wolf blinks away the sleep gathered around his golden eyes before rising drowsily before her. “What for?” he questions with bated breath. Essetia shakes her head with uncertainty before turning to track the remaining notes of her summons upon the breeze. Essetia trails the syllables north with Romul following slowly behind; she is anxious to face her mysterious caller.

Romul eventually recovers himself a mile or so into their descent and moves ahead to scout the way and pick out fresh scents from the curling wind. It doesn’t take long for the wolf to uncover a particularly recent fragrance, presumably one belonging to their unnamed comrade. Though Romul is hesitant, as per usual, Essetia does not nurture his fear and instead plunges headlong down the path in hopes of purging the tension building in her gut. The Hidden Falls had provided her many surprises and yet still stood to reveal more… She could tolerate the suspense no longer.

The pair had grown close enough to identify a singular, fragrant note upon the breeze, most definitely feminine as Essetia had previously assumed. However, the regal creature that awaited them stopped the mare and her companion in their tracks. A sooty black, winged mare, tipped in red and white cropped up amidst a sea of prosperous green. Birdsong was now upon Helovia and the blooming of color and life anew was comforting to the summer mare. She longed for the warmth and light of the warmer months though she was not always adverse to the cold of winter. There was simply something more tempting about the blooming of the wild flowers and the shading of leaved trees.

Peering into dark, curious eyes, Essetia cleared her throat upon approach. “Did you… call?” she questioned softly. Never before had she seen the mare nor heard mention of such a creature. But as the Falls had proven numerous times before, there was obviously something Essetia needed to know about her new place of residence. Romul came to perch between his companion’s knees and gaze stubbornly at the onyx maiden with golden eyes much too suspicious of his own Czarina... not that he was aware of the matter. Essetia attempted to calm the wolf by sending him comforting waves of warmth through their bond but of course he rejected them with silence and persisted fixation.

The pair had much to learn about the Falls but Essetia had a feeling that this unfamiliar mare would be able to answer all of her questions.

Ghost didn’t quite know what to expect when the girl came, but upon arrival the banshee was met with a young equine mare about the same age as herself. Bay of colour with a strange, thin white marking on her face and with her followed a beautiful, dangerous looking snowy wolf. There was something about wolves that Ghost quite liked, their sharp gazes and ability to stalk unheard if they wished. If she should die and be granted to come back as a different being, then it would be that of a wolf. Admiration aside, the Cadaverous turned her black gaze upwards to meet that of Essetia, who came even on a strangers call to which Ghost was thankful for. It could have taken her a while to find the mare otherwise. Scrutiny over, the sprite considered her words before speaking them, perhaps it would be best to introduce ones self-first before diving into the fray. The ice needed to be broken before business could be attended to.

”Essetia, is it?” She asked in clarification, waiting for the girl to verify before moving on. It’d be no good to be talking to the wrong mare after all. ”I’m Ghost, the Czarina alongside Midas. I hope I didn’t disturb anything important?” The banshee began in hopes to get to know the mahogany belle a little more. If this one was to fill the hole that Ghost herself had left, then it would do them good to understand one another, they would be dealing with one another frequently and it would be nice to be on friendly terms. Her mind often cast back to the relationship she had with Seele, it wasn’t a close friendship, but they had understood each other and the orders were passed along smoothly. The less confusion led to less hassle later.

Flicking her attention back to the creature between her legs, Ghost offered the wolf a small smile "who is your friend?" And how might I aquire one she thought silently after. A hunting partner to join her in the shadows sounded like a beautiful idea.

Inside eyes of deep ink and hidden secrets, Essetia found a different kind of strength. Ghost was a peculiar creature whose very presence seemed to make the bay’s skin crawl. It was not out of fear or repulsion but more so from glimpsing what appeared to be a woman of contradiction. Her smooth smile and hungry eyes were glazed with something that Essetia couldn’t place but she possessed a kind of humility that allowed the bay to welcome her with open arms.

Soft waves of sound broke through the thick wall of expectation between them. Essetia did not find herself disappointed by the loose formality that clearly gave name to the shadowy mare, her Czarina. “Essetia it is. It’s nice to put a face to the name, though I can’t say I’ve met your counterpart,” she lulled. “I can assure you that you’ve interrupted nothing of importance either. It’s taken me a bit longer to settle than I’d intended… but I must say, the Falls has lived up to its name,” Essetia related more casually.

However, when Ghost’s dark, curious eyes sought out the canine resting at Essetia’s feet, the bay smiled. Most others found Romul to be threatening or alarming, Kipling aside. But the way Ghost seemed to covet his presence impressed his companion. “This is Romul,” she smiled. “Don’t let him fool you though; he’s not your average bond mate. He’s got a quick temper and bite to match,” she stated while peering down at the wolf. The mention of his name had made Romul curious and though he remained at Essetia’s hooves, he fixed a golden gaze on the winged Czarina.

The canine groaned impatiently before rising and shaking the tension from his muscles. “Go. Greet our new lead.” Essetia prodded silently across the enchanted tie that linked their two minds together. At first, Romul was hesitant if not irritated by her persistence to perturb him. But when the mare huffed softly at him, he complied… reluctantly.

Romul had always been an elegant creature in Essetia’s mind but she had never truly admired his beauty the way others seemed to do. Ghost only aided in reminding the bay exactly what treasure she’d uncovered in the Edge so long ago. Without Romul, she wasn’t sure where she would be today… and that wasn’t something she’d ever want to imagine.

Her pale eyes curved over the wolf’s back, watching his shoulders and the way his ears flicked toward various sounds yet detected by her own. His approach was slow and calculated. However, there was nothing in his posture to suggest that he found anything unusual about the mare other than an unfamiliar creature that would remain under constant scrutiny until he felt safe enough to trust her.

When he had reached the shadowy Czarina, he extended a soft nose up toward her own in a display of both compromise and greeting. He would serve her willingly should all go well but there was little doubt as to where his loyalties truly lie.
