And when the time comes....

The day was warm, finally Spring had come. I believe they called it Birdsong here. Snow could still be seen here and there, but buds were blooming, and the fragrance of flowers was already present. I had never been there before; in the Secret Grove, but it was a most beautiful place.

Trees were growing strong, animals slowly creeping out of their hiding places to see the new world. However, the beauty did not last, for a most horrid scent filled my nostrils. The scent of charred flesh. The smell was old, but it still lingered; an undercurrent to the flowery smells.

My hooves turned by themselves, silently leading me to yet another corpse. I stand there uselessly, staring at the remainder of what must have once been a beautiful horse. I realised I did not know her, nor had I ever seen her. She slept in a puddle of her own blood, so pitiful and helpless. But, there was blood on her horn...surely that was not her own? Whoever was killing these innocent souls surely must have been strong, for the crumpled corpse before me appeared to be strong once upon a time. Strong and healthy. What could be such an overpowering source?

But it was clear she had put up a fight. But she was not strong enough.

I raised my head and turned away from the body, walking away without looking back, as if in a trance. I went on my way to my friends in the fields; maybe they would understand the sadness and mystery I felt.
