Voodoo
there was a time that the pieces fit
but i watched them fall away

'Rrrr-ew?' the snow fox tried to question, her large eyes looking up for yours as the two of you walk side-by-side along the quiet ocean. Silently you nod, empty stare finding her oily gaze for only a second. Even though your mutt has been around since his birth, she still doesn't clearly understand why your body is slammed with self-disappointment and pain when the images of the tri-horned child appear in your head. It had been weeks since, but the conversation between Alysanne and yourself played over and over in your head, and with our aid, the words became muffled and misunderstood. Unsure of his current whereabouts, you pray that he is still with the woman you had met, Rajiri. She seemed to have a deep love for your child.

One that you believe any mother should have for own flesh and blood. Regardless of one's poor decisions, a sense of relief coats your rumbling guts when you picture the dark, winged woman and your son together.

Finally you find the edge of the water, long ears turning forward as your slender face drops to the glimmering water; it's difficult for us to understand how cold the water still is, but the fact that you wince as the liquid slides down your throat gives us an idea. Ouija pads off to the right, slinking just far enough from the edge of the water to not disturb any aquatic creatures that are likely just coming out of hibernation, being trapped beneath a thick layer of ice for months. A spot below a tall desert tree is where the growing kit finds comfort to stalk any curious fish. She squats in a stealthy crouch, her black tipped tail twitching like a focused feline.

With the mutt occupied, we pick at our nails, waiting for something to pop up in your ever-wandering mind that we can spit at or pick apart. Unfortunate for us, for the longest time you just stare down at your own reflection, the inside of your skull silent as ever. Time passes slowly and we murmur about constructing a clock just to hear the minutes literally tick away; still, nothing. 'M-miiinne!' Finally, something drops into your head from all around us, the new-found voice of your babbling mutt.

Glossed eyes tear from your reflection with hesitation almost as if you are scared to look away and never to see the face again, but once they do, they land on an expression full of pride... with a wet, flopping fish with long whiskers and slimy eye balls hanging from her black lips. Your stomach turns at the thought of consuming something so wet and slippery, but somehow you muster a generous smile and find a laugh deep in your throat. "Ohh. Fantastic Ouija." The words are clearly exaggerated, but the fox is happy to hear them and gives a wag of her tail before clamping her jaws tighter, the slimy water animal making an audible crrunch that makes your spine tingle.

The smile falls into a tight-lipped cringe and you cast your eyes back down to the messy reflection below you.

"Voodoo." 'Ouija.' 'Voices'
