The grey slams to a halt. The golden harks lower back in thought at her surprise or frustration? Though when she turns to look back the gold is a warm smiling stallion as before. His earth colored eyes sparking but nothing to be concerned about. The small dark spotted fawn at his side though was a different story. Little as he was the creature had been taught no fear and so boldly stepped forward, wagging his little tail. The flutter of activity, possibly violent if the fawn had been too close, was nothing more than a curiosity. He wanted to move like that! To slam his hooves and make ice shatter about. Of course he could not equal the power of a fully grown horse, but such science is beyond the grasp of his age. So he only moves in wonder towards her another step.

The gold looks down as he hears the small being at his side move, but does nothing to stop it. What that tiny creature did on his own power was not the gold’s responsibility. Instead he turns back and looks at the grey as she lifts a smile and speaks, with several pauses. Visiting the lady was no crime, certainly not for possible acceptance into their herd, but the gold did not exactly like find comfort her leaving. Once you enter the Basin it was accepted that you will stay, unless this new lady was more radical than the gold thought. Not to mention that having another so easily slip past the two iron horses towering behind him was disconcerting. Still we all must put on polite faces, so as she continues to speak the gold nods his head and keeps his warm smile, but says nothing.

Haldir can sense nothing of the tension around him. He looks from one creature to the other, looking at their different colors and horns. With curiosity he moves forward to stand only a few yards from her, his little tail wagging away. He liked this horse, she was very pretty, and certainly seemed as large and awesome as the gold. Still he wanted to show her, like the gold had shown him, how power he could be. He would make that gold proud he was sure. So rearing up on his shaking hind limbs he crashes his front back down with all the force his weary body could muster, sending one or two chips of ice scattering. Proud of himself the small creature looked up to her again, expectantly.

The gold most certainly though was not proud. He was just opening his mouth to speak his name when the tiny fawn finished his little display. Earth eyes narrow towards him, but then considering the company quickly readjust. Lowering his horned head the gold calls to the child. “Haldir…” The fawn spins around in the excitement of hearing his name. With proud high steps he moves back to the gold from where he had stood. The fawn stand next to him once more, but turns still to the grey mare. The gold thought, he must certainly have to do something with that fawn soon, this was getting out of hand. Again, though there was the present company to consider. Looking back up with a smile the gold speaks. “I am Thranduil, at your service. And this….is Haldir.” Again the fawn looked up with extreme happiness to hear his name, though seeing it being told to the other, looks over to her.

Even with the fawn’s interuptions the gold was not one to let something as suspicious as this mare leave so soon. “Our lady is rather new to her title, so you must excuse her.” In other words, her competence and loyalty were completely in question at the moment, though it did seem she had remembered the more important rule in inviting guests to this place. Had an equine or Pegasus shown up it would not have been just the gold greeting her. Even with this story though, and the name dropping the gold was set to ease. The potential had been far too great to see far too many things for her to continue and leave. So the gold, not one to get involved in these trivial tour guide jobs, shows an unusual kindness. “Perhaps, I can act in her stead?” He lets his smile grow slightly. “I wouldn’t want you to leave thinking we are but a barren frozen valley.” Though that’s exactly what they were. Stepping back the gold lowers his head as if to invite her back into their home. The fawn at this movement gets excited yet again and looks to the grey yet again with eyes wide with excitement at these new developments. How happy he was to have been bold enough to go with the gold this morning!
