Lakota
Her smile makes you wonder where she's been

Lakota and Ktulu had never had the typical sort of love. They loved with the intensity of a wildfire, and burning was a calculated risk. They were storm chasers, arsonists, and they threw their love at one another like exploding shrapnel that would embed itself in their skin whether they wanted it to linger there or not. It would ache with every movement, a constant reminder of that fierce, powerful love. For them, love was war, and though others may look down upon them and their odd ways, that was why they fit together so perfectly. Love, for them, was not composed of sugared words and batted lashes. So they simply never cared to do anything else with the emotions that resided within them. Few had any actual influence in their lives, so the rest- and their opinions- could burn in the fires they'd set.

As such, their supposed harsh treatment of each other was only ever for the best. Lakota needed the sharp words to kick her axis back into place, settle her world where it needed to be once more. With a jolt, she let the words take hold like barbs in her skin, pulling her like a marionette into the proper position. Taking a deep, shuddering breath, Lakota felt her world slowly fall back into place, like sanity snowflakes that took their damn sweet time coating her and calming her panic attack.

When she had come to herself, she let her squeezed lids peek open to look at her beloved, and this time she had the equilibrium to allow herself a snort of laughter. A fawn. It really was degrading.

"Thank you," she said softly, though her voice was more than sufficient in finding her beloved's ears. Ktulu was one of the few to whom she'd express such apparent gratitude, but she'd needed the abrupt shock to her system to keep her from damning the quest to hell and fleeing, or begging her mate to leave with her. It was a warm comfort to know that regardless of how Ktulu personally felt, she'd never leave. Not when she knew that beneath the Poisoner's temporary fear, she wanted foals more than anything. She would have forced Lakota to stay, either way, and though others may have found it to be rather infuriating behavior, the Poisoner only found comfort.

A grin curled evil and beautiful in her fanged face as Ktulu spoke, the passion cowering behind her shock burning away the lingering effects. Obeying Ktulu's request, she slowly clawed back down the tree, far less elegant than when she'd been relying solely on instinct. She must look ridiculous, hair on end and tail straight with her own discomfort and lack of trust in her new form. The poor tree was likely scarred to hell by the time her massive paws were back on the earth, but she abruptly sheathed her claws. The temptation wouldn't help.

Moving closer to Ktulu, her stomach squirmed, but the Constrictor's words rang in her head. They would prove him wrong. They could do this. So she moved closer, until she was within touching distance, but allowing Ktulu to take the last step and find her own comfort level. Sitting on poised haunches, Lakota gazed out at Ktulu from vibrant violet eyes, going very still and allowing her mate to find her own boundaries.

"Nobody is going to keep me from my babies," she quite literally hissed, determination strong in her gaze once more. They were not even conceived, and already she held a fierce protective instinct for them. All traces of her previous meltdown had disappeared, all because her mate knew her better than she knew herself. Take that, you glorified fucker.
