Pregnancy was bliss. Kou's sides may have bulged almost uncomfortably under the weight of the foal she was carrying, but she had little to complain about. A desire she had long kept to herself was the desire to be a mother and raise a family of her own. When she had asked Mauja for the position as d'Artagnan's nurse it had not been because she had even liked the stallion. In fact, she'd only seen him around the herd once or twice. It had truly been because she wanted a position with more responsibility. Falling in love with the doctor and bearing his child had been completely unexpected, but she welcomed it openly.

The mare hummed to herself as she walked, a content, happy smile creasing her lips. It had been a while since she'd felt so at peace or happy with anything. The confrontation she'd had with Mauja that had left her angry and maybe a touch more hurt seemed like a distant memory. After that, after telling him exactly how she'd felt and had calmed down she had felt happier. Maybe yelling at him would make him understand how much she cared about him and how much she worried about him even though she didn't have to. He was more than just a leader to her, though, he was a friend. She didn't expect to lose his friendship over one fight, though. Friends often fought. If one fight ended it then he wasn't a true friend, was he?

Kou stopped when she reached the cliff edge. The heavy mare didn't dare step too close to it for fear that her heavier form would crack the ground and make it crumble beneath her and send her falling to her and her child's death. Her white and silver tail brushed her hocks as she closed her eyes and simply enjoyed the breeze and the sound of the ocean below.

The prince crept in the shadows, lurked behind trees and bushes, stalked the animals of the forest. He was a hunter, he was feared and respected he could not be defeated. He was next in line to be king, nothing could break his proud stride, he was a born fighter, he was… scared half to death by the sudden noise of a bird that flew from a bush next to him!

The foal jumped to the side, nostrils widened, sweat broke out behind his ears and his sides heaved by the major scare he’d gotten. He relaxed as his dual colored eyes followed the bird when it climbed higher and higher - up towards the crowns of the trees. The leaves were all orange, red and yellow now, when he was born some of them had still been green. Every morning the grass had a layer of frost too, but the foal had something to keep him warm. On his back and over his snow dappled rump a lynx pelt was draped. The front legs of what was left of the animal were tied around his neck so it stayed in place on his back. He’d gotten it from Coris, the crafter, and even if he didn’t know it, the skin would probably save him from freezing to death during Frostfall.

The little mantle clad foal was of course Tamlin - the young prince of the World’s Edge. And he was completely aware of the prince part. His mother told him often how special he was and what a fine stallion he would eventually grow into. The little colt could hardly wait for the day he grew up, but he wondered what it would feel like - to grow up. Did it happened over night or would it take as long as a week?

Tamlin then suddenly strayed passed the trees and into open ground. He knew he wasn’t supposed to go this far from his home in the little clearing. But it couldn’t hurt to just take a look around, could it?
He saw a pale figure further away and wondered if it wanted to play with him. Not that he didn’t like playing with Dirk, but it would be nice to play with someone his own size. But the closer he got the bigger the horse became and when he reached it he saw that it was an adult mare. A fat mare, to be precise. He gazed at her swelling belly and his brow furrowed.
”What have you eaten?” he asked finally. Not bothering to introduce himself, surely she should know her future king when she saw him?

Unlike her first days here she avoided making much contact with her fellow unicorns. She was brewing over a lot of things, and wasn't sure if she should be place herself among others. She was not in the best of moods. She was frustrated, and irritated by many a thing. And she knew if she saw Tillas she would wish to vomit, which was not even possible. A stale taste in her throat, she let out a muffled snort. She wanted to shove it all from her mind, especially Leander. Why did a feathered have to show interest in her? There surely had to be plenty of his own kind to see, and play with. Every word still weighed on her mind, she had made a good point to rid herself of all traces of him but what was in her head. If she could have she would have erased that too. Her entire strand of memories, start over with nothing but here. It would be quite strange to go asking around about such a magic, and it would be pointless to request such a thing from the Gods. They were probably the ones who had sent a pegasus her way, an infatuated one, like some cruel curse.

Locked away it all, and started wandering through the forest. She stayed far away from where ash, and cinders, wanting to also forget that night. Dark silver eyes drifting from the mossy undergrowth, and some golden leaves she wished for someone to talk to. Here surrounded by unicorns she felt there was no one. She did not trust them, not even herself. Onyx pillars drug her along, making sure to keep clear of the borders. Instead she ended up drifting to the drop of the cliff. First she hung to the conifers, taking some snaps of grass as she went. Ears drawn back she listened to the workings of the land, wondering how she might prepare for Frostfall. Several mouthfuls, she concluded getting as many calories as she could was the best idea. Which, wasn't anything special. She tugged at more gathered blades, when something was making it's way through the forest to the open area. It was strange because it sounded like a horse, the way the footsteps fell, but the steps were not very heavy. Faelene recalled how there had been a call about a new babe. Was this the foal?

She had not gone to meet the mother, and her child because it was simply not her thing. She often thought it was a bit special to have everyone around gawking despite the call that had been given. She fought on the idea to seek him out, but thought it would be a wonderful distraction. She moved slowly through the trees, not wanting to startle him or his mother. She brought herself from hiding she saw an ivory mare with a rounded belly. The boy inquiring what she had eaten. Faelene wore a amused smirk, how honest younglings were. Letting out a light neigh of greeting to reveal herself, she walked over to the pair. Kou, was the name her mind offered her, and it had seemed she had been in the Edge for some time. "Hello," she greeted warmly, letting her eyes meet the lady's and then the boy's. She had a half smile on her lips, wishing she could help answer, but she had no idea what to say as it was not exactly her place.

The soft pitter-patter of hooves against the ground brought the mare's humming to an end. An ear rotated back so she could listen to the approach, unworried that it might be someone that meant her harm. They were so protective of the Edge, all of them. Whenever there was even the hint of trouble or someone crossing the borders they were there. Their warriors, Mauja, d'Artagnan. Here in the comfort of home there was nothing to worry about. It was only when you ventured out into the other Helovian lands was there danger.

"What have you eaten?"

Her blue eyes open and her head swung around so she could look at the little colt who's hooves she had heard pitter-pattering through the forest. The pale mare smiled at his question and as she looked him over there was no mistaking that he was Mauja's son. "I've found the tastiest clover in all of Helovia." she told the colt. "I could not help myself and look at me now." She giggled to herself, wondering if the boy would believe her and demand to be taken there. It was not her place to tell him about the pleasures of flesh and the results that followed, was it? No she would leave that to his mother. Or, better yet, Mauja.

Another mare entered the scene and greeted them, to which Kou smiled warmly. "Hello." She said to the mare. "I'm Kou."

Clover?! Tamlin wrinkled his muzzle. Who would eat that green nasty stuff when there was warm, sweet milk? He looked suspiciously at the cremello mare and a little snort left his velvety nostrils. She smelled a little like Mother however so he felt surprisingly calm beside the mare. He stood beside her silently and looked over the edge for a while. But then he was distracted from the serenity of the moment.

Another mare, this one obsidian and crimson, approached and the little prince quickly turned to look at her. She spoke only one word and Tamlin cocked his head to the side, wondering why she wasn’t as talkative as the cremello. The pale mare answered the newcomer however and Tamlin learnt Kou’s name.

Then suddenly a strange feeling bubbled through his stomach. It belly started sounding really weird and the little mantle clad lad knew he ought to go back to his mother. It was the first time he felt hunger really, since it was the first time he’d strayed from his mother’s side and her nourishing milk. He cast a dual colored gaze to the mares and then he walked off without a word.

[ooc; sorry, he is so small in this thread so I don’t know what to do with him xD He’ll probably turn up when Kou is giving birth though.]

The soon-to-be-mother told the boy of sweet clover, and Faelene couldn't hide a smile to that. Would he be worried about eating clover, or would he watch the amounts he took? He was probably too young to nibble at it for now. Fae thought it might pose some questions to his sire or dam. By the look on his face it seemed he would not be trying it any how. The little prince gave her a look, but had appeared to lost any more to say.

She paused merely watching him curiously, noticing now that his eyes were different colors. She had never seen it before, least no in such different hues. There was no doubting he was Mauja's by his horn, and rump. It was not hard to recall the mare...Lotus? Was probably his mother. She had already seemed to taken a great pride in carrying him. Something that still had Faelene wondering. She had spent a lot of time around foals, but it had left her heartbroken because they had been taken from their mothers.

When the silvery mare spoke, Faelene's neck would raise, ears dart to Kou's direction. A dip of her head, she was happy her memory had served her correctly. "Pleasure to meet you, I'm Faelene." However she looked to the boy he seemed to have other thoughts, and left. She assumed to find his own mother, and let him go.

Silver lined pupils would return back to her company.Kou gave the dark cloaked mare better impression on the females of the Edge. A lot more pleasant and eased back it seemed. She had to wonder, did this foal belong to the King or another? She could not remember all the faces of the meeting, but wasn't about to assume on way or another.. Any day now?" Was the one thing she did dare ask, wondering how long she would have to wait. She looked quite happy as it were.
