Gods was it hot, so hot the poor golden haired girl dripped with sticky sweat. Her sides heaved almost angrily as she passed around the water hole. The oasis was the best place she could think of within her desert home. It seemed foolish to leave home at this time. Her baby was making it's way towards the sun. Passing in aggravation and pain the mare was uncomfortable, to say the least. 'Oh Sun god why did I get myself into this?!' Her prayer was only halfhearted, made out of pain. Truth be told, she knew this was going to be worth it to see her young babe gaze lovingly up at her. Another fear crept slowly into her brain, dripping like an icicle basked in Birdsong rays.

Buce. She had kept away from his sight. The sweet girl had not wanted to burden the male with their... predicament. He would find out soon enough when their babe walked beside her. She would not lie to him, or anyone else about it's father. Suddenly an anguishing pain ripped it's way through her body. The purple girl fell to her knees then her side. Her antlered head rested upon the ground sweat rolling off of her, matching the waves of contractions. This healer had never been present while a foal was brought into the world, now was her chance to learn. But how could she learn with all of this pain?

Was this pain even normal?! A squeal erupted from her soft muzzle as her babe slipped from her body. One finally push and her babe was laying still beside her. Fear and nature took over forcing the mare to raise her head. Turning towards the black babe she carefully licked and nudged it. A gasp of life flew through the young colt drawing steel eyes open as he quivered. Attempting to lift his purple flecked face he turned a hazy gaze towards his mother.

Alija did not care that there wasn't a horn upon his face, or that there was clearly small feathery wings at his sides. She only cared that he was alive and safe within their home. "Welcome to Helovia my sweet babe." As sweet words gushed from her mouth a name rolled into her brain. "My sweet Aakesh." Nuzzling her first babe was one of the best feelings that had ever filled her heart. Love radiated from the purple girl, as her colt shook his head trying to clear it.

Find a way to believe in fate

Cries of pain strike her ears and she's up, wide awake and alert as of the misery that is being placed upon one of the herd members that it was her sole duty to ensure they were healthy. Struggling beneath the weight of her body, her legs pull her up, shaking away orange sand that leaps from her amber coat. Another cry hits her in the chest instead of the ears this time.
Flashbacks of Cera replay in her mind as she bursts from her napping location, buried into a thicket. Half of the foliage that had acted as shelter hung on with a grip of shock. Somewhere along the line, it becomes obvious that the calls strangling her with fear isn't Cera being mauled before her very eyes by a cougar, and in reality, is Alija.
It's evident when her strides collect themselves into a canter, huffing her chest forward with a tired fashion before giving way to a trot. The thought of how she must look lazy and tired with the weight of grass belly having slowed her down crosses her mind and fades to the sight of a violet mare spread over the grass and sand near the lake. A part of her twists into worry as of if something had gotten her. None of the predators that were big enough to kill or seriously injure a horse came in this close other than for the times that drink was needed. Attacks on herd members beside the lake seemed unheard of, but she was prepared to take on what horrors occurred.
"A-Alija....?" The whisper has a difficult finding it's escape route, brought back into her throat by the fear that she'll watch one of her fellow healers die at her hands, soaked in blood and lost to whatever had gotten there before Sikeax.
The squeal that peels out of Alija's lips has the honey coloured girl beside her in seconds, falling down to her knees beside her. It's then that she notices this isn't death, more of the arrival of life. The unicorn had been given the gift of a child.
"You're going to be fine. Let your body do the work and move with what's happening." She'd never birthed a foal and had no known idea as of how the process went, but as she watched pain expel from the other female in cries of agony, she can only hope there's nothing to serious going on within.
The child comes when Sikeax turns her head away, offering a sacred moment left only for the mother and her new love. It's movements tell it's time to step away, leaving the presence of the pair to watch their tale begin. A name comes into the trio and Sikeax can only smile. Mothers always knew what was best for their child. "He's a lovely colt with a handsome name. How do you feel? Any pains other than labour related?"
She tries desperately to avoid interference while maintaining her job. This was special time that she must of shared with Adrixaura sometime long in the past when she was laid in the snow and freezing. It all seemed too far off compared to watching another come to the living world and slap them all in the face. Others died only to be replaced by others who would die in the future in an endless cycle no one could find relief to.

OOC: Hope you don't having Sikeax stop in and make sure everything is okay. If things get moving fast, you can skip her. She's just standing to the side.

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”
― Leonardo da Vinci

It was the sound of pain, a scream rending the air that had Bucephalus on his feet, taking off at a run towards the sound. Wings unfurled, and quickly he was airborne, the sand blurring beneath him. Two familiar shapes, Alija and Sikeax, quickly grew in his vision, and he landed on the sand in a flurry of sand, dust and wind. His immediate thought at seeing Alija on the ground, coated in sweat, and Sikeax standing over her was that for some reason the quiet mare had attacked Alija.

Feathers bristled, he opened his mouth to demand what was going on, before his gaze caught sight of what was happening. Alija was birthing. Immediately he felt like an idiot, and shut his mouth with an audible 'click'. Hasty hasty. Luckily he had arrived near the end, and soon enough the process was over, and his lips twitched up at the obvious love Alija had for her newborn. Ears pricked forward as she named the foal, and a deep hum ran through his body. Such a familiar name. Arabian name, fitting for a desert-born horse, even one that looked to be as thick-built as his mother.

"Aakesh is a strong name. Means 'Lord of the Sky'." He dipped his head to Alija, then flashed Sikeax a smile in greeting. "Congratulations Alija." He said, noting Sikeax's appearance before looking back to the purple mare, gaze flickering over the little colt. He didn't have his mother's....unique coloring. In fact, he was startlingly simple, and...winged? But hornless. Odd, but Bucephalus didn't choose to pry. If Alija wished for the father to be known, she would say such.

The black watched Sikeax question Alija about her health, gaze flickering over the healer's rounded belly. Was she pregnant as well? Oh spring, how quickly the magic worked. His thoughts flickered to Arvakl, and his ears pinned back. If that bitch even tried to harm his unborn... His teeth ground together. Outcasts went missing every day.

She would be one of them. Anyone who touched his children would pay. Heavily.

GAUCHO
And I'd bring you further roses but it does you no good
Although Gaucho couldn't see those around him he could certainly hear them. The sound of distress and pain reached his ears as he drank from the Oasis, causing his dark skull to quickly raise and turn towards the sound. His blackened ears swiveled honing in on the location of the sound as his barred legs picked up a swiftly canter. In his antlers Mara's alert gaze peered through his forelock, gently guiding him towards the assembled group that he could not see.

Biiiiirthing She hissed quietly in his mind, spying Alija on the ground with the babe near her. Alija give birth. Ssssssai there, Buccee tooo." She continued naming those who were there and projecting their images into his mind. His pace slowed realizing that there was no danger. In fact, he was nearly ready to turn around and return to the Oasis. Birthing had ... never been his thing. SSSSSSSSSSS Mara hissed angrily, slapping the side of his face with her tail. sssssay congratulaaattttions She urged, threatening to bite him if he didn't comply.

Grunting the dun did as he was told. He slowed to a walk as she neared the group, borrowing Mara's eyes to spy the child upon the ground. It was an interesting creature, although it didn't appear to take after Alija much. Whoever the father was must have had a fairly boring genetic sequence in order to weed out Alija's bright colours. Then again ... Mara's skull looked from the bird-catcher spots on the babe to those that ran along Buce's side. Of course Gaucho thought without much amusement or surprise. Buce had brought wandering children back to the Throat when he first arrived. Was it any surprise that he would start creating more of his own now?

Using Mara's gaze, he looked at Alija, smiling dumbly down at what appeared to just be sand. "Congratulations." He said, following Mara's instructions. "Foal looks strong." Then, turning (more or less) to Buce, he grunted. "Yours?" He inquired, already assumed based on the dark coat and birdcatcher spots that it was.

Why else would he be here?

A sweet shaky voice draws the girl's ears up, wide whitened eyes to rest upon her lead healer. The friendly smile she usually wears is no where in sight. Once the scream of pain rolls through her again and Sikeax drops beside her it all becomes easier. It was crazy how not being alone could really help. A bleak thought trickled into the tired brain, when she died the antlered dove would not want to be alone. The sweet words drew ideas back, and eyes shut. Focusing as best she could, upon her body's movements, Alija pushed when nature called for it.

After days, or was it minutes, the pain subsided. She was sore from legs to muzzle, but her sweet boy was more than worth it. Sikeax moved away after a moment, leaving only her scent and words behind. "Thank you Miss." Steal blue eyes of the girl gaze gratefully up at the golden girl. "I'm sore, but that's all. I think everything went normally." Buce's voice drew amethyst ears up catching every last hum of praise. Looking down almost shamed the mare's sweet voice was soft and breathless, "Thank you Buce." Before a sneeze from the young purple spotted colt drew the new momma back to her first real love. The colt was already trying to throw his spindly legs away from his thin body. He would make it to his feet if it was the last thing he did. Steel grey's moved to the elaborate mare, drawing strength from the warm smile plastered upon her face.

Setting his mouth the winged youth tried his best to pull the mile long legs under his draft built body, but to no avail. Taking a deep steadying breath the mare prepared herself to give the news. Right before she spoke Gaucho seemed to appear right before them. She realized he could not see instantly as handsome blue eyes looked vaguely at the sand in front of her. "Thank Sir Gaucho." She smiled softly up at his black snake, assuming her was seeing through her. Another sneeze drew her attention back at Aakesh as he still struggled to master his legs. His small brow was knotted in concentration as his legs slowly began to cooperate. Gaucho's next words drew her attention back sharply, but her gaze found Buce. Panic pricked at her heart, what if he was mad, or disappointing in his son. Hopefully before he could speak her own quavering voice sounded, "He is yours Bucephalus..." She waited her breath held for his reaction.

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”

Okay, so ONCE he impregnates a mare. Somehow Gaucho caught wind of Arvakl's little tidbit and now Bucephalus doubted he'd ever let it go. He watched Aakesh try to rise in silence, amused and irritated by the dun's statement. He opened his mouth to speak, to correct Gaucho's assumption, but Alija beats him to the punch.

"He is yours Bucephalus..."

The Morningstar freezes, goes rigid as stone. Then he prayed. Prayed prayed that he did not just hear what he thought he did. Slowly, oh so slowly, he turned his head and looked down at Alija, at Aakesh, with eyes wide enough to show the whites. His throat works, as if he would speak, but his dark lips don't part, instead staring down at the pair in dumbfounded shock.

With Arvakl, he could doubt the unborn child's heritage, there was no proof that the babe would be his(and considering how...'welcoming' she had been, he doubted he was her first). But here... here there was proof. The ebony coat, the wings, the birdcatcher spots. All of it pointed to one as the father. Him.

He couldn't compute. Couldn't understand this.

And then it hits him like a mountain, and his legs begin to tremble. The shiver, so fine as to barely be noticeable, travels up his legs and to his entire body. Father. He was a child's father. Lips finally part, but nothing comes out yet. His gaze focuses on Aakesh, on his son. Slowly, as if the child was a snake, he lowers his head, nostrils trembling as he breathed in the babe's scent.

It solidifies his fear and erases his doubts. This child is his. His responsibility and his son. He pulled back, ears flattened and a look on his face that could only be described as 'lost'. Because that's what he was. Lost. Confused. Terrified. He had no clue how to be a father, how to help raise a child, how to guide him.

It's too much. If it was not for the fact that Gaucho was there, he would have fled, fled to think, to breathe, to clear his head and come to terms with the reality that stared at him with steel blue eyes.

Find a way to believe in fate

They swarm like flies upon dung, drawn in by the sounds of distress. Buce arrives first, catching Sikeax's attention for a short period before handing it back over to Alija. The violet's pain was easy to cure with the help of Devil's Claw, and yet while the herb was unbelievably hideous and lived up to it's name, it was a lifesaver for those suffering through pain she couldn't cure with a flame. "I'll have to fetch you some Devil's Claw."
Before she turns to leave, the child's struggle brings a smile to her tired face. Temptation of aid comes across her mind where she could offer the child assistance as her mother had done to her, but the desert sand didn't seem as deadly as the first snows of Frostfall. The bond was sacred, and stepping between it at this time would be insulting.
Gaucho's arrival brings something else with it. A question spills into their huddle of protection and admiration as of who the father was. She squints at the child while her mind battles names and looks in an attempt to match them. It quickly became a game of 'Who fucked who'.
But in the end, Mom always know who did the deed one way or another. Who it is, though, brings shock and surprise to her face.
He seems to be taking it badly, from what she watches clot his and destroy any of what she's seen out of him. Him, as a father, is not the image she ever thought of him with after their chat together in the cold. Bucephalus came off to her as a man who had other interests that didn't include children. Maybe what she feels from him is pity at this very moment, or maybe, she didn't feel anything for him. Anger draws her chest tight with a sharp pain.
Roy had never been there for her. He'd abandoned her shortly after their arrival to the Dragon's Throat, having discovered her once she'd fled her mother's side, escorted her to the desert, and left her alone without a good bye. The face that Bucephalus wears burrows into her soul and strikes a nerve.
"Congratulations, Bucephalus." Her pale shades watch him with a cold look of self-loathe, trying to keep her voice from being harsh while she worries Bucephalus may not treat Aakesh in the loving way she hoped all foals experienced from their parents. Alija was a good mare as far as Sikeax knew her, and the way the winged stud appeared to her in the past was well enough to gain some respect.
She turns to Gaucho, now aware of how private this whole issue was becoming. "Gaucho? Maybe we should excuse ourselves, this seems private." With one last smile to the fellow vixen, "Again, he's a handsome son. If you do need me, don't hestitate. I'll have you some Devil's Claw soon for your aches." With that, she turns and leaves, unwilling to bury herself into someone else's private affairs.

GAUCHO
And I'd bring you further roses but it does you no good
Whatever passes over Bucephalus' features is lost upon the dun who cannot see it. Mara's gaze (and therefore his own) is focus intently upon the babe. As Alija announced Buce the father, the Wildfire merely grunts. He had suspected as much, and part of it pleased Gaucho. Creating a foundation with a mare here and creating a foal was a good way to solidify his loyalty to the Throat. And yet .. hadn't there been that strange purple hybrid at their borders only a few days prior? Wasn't she too screaming Buce's name? Frowning Gaucho said nothing.

As long as Buce could keep everything together it was none of his concern.

"Praise the Sun." He said finally to Alija, his voice warm and genuine. His dark ears flickered at Sikeax's comment, and his antlered crown nodded. Although the moment didn't seem particularly private to him (although Gaucho was not necessarily one for private moments), he was happy to move on. He also wasn't one for new born babies.

"A son." He grunted in Buce's direction as his large body pivoted neatly on the sands. "Good."

Nostril's flaring he followed in the wake of his Sun Physician. He was confident that if Alija had needed healing the pale mare would have stayed. That she was departing already was a good sign for the health of both mother and foal.

How many youths did that make here now? 4? 5? Briefly his mind flickered to Ampere and her growing flanks. Would more soon add to their numbers? Where had his gladiator his herself? Their coupling had ended so quickly and he had not had a chance to see her since.

Was it intentional? Was she avoiding him? After seasons of striving to find one another, was all it took their one meager meeting to dispel with whatever blossomed between them?

'Damn it. DAMN. IT! DAMN these LEGS!' His young voice echoed vainly within his head. Screwing up his black and purple bird catcher face the newborn struggled again. Steel eyes had completely missed the arrival of others. Their words and voices all mixed together like scrabble chips; distinguishable. Tiny muzzle crinkled oddly as a strange sensation came upon him. A violent expulsion of air startled the colt. In fear he gazed longingly up at his purple mother. Her lips were turned up and he drew love and strength from her. She had not freaked out so why should he? Shaking his purple spotted head the babe struggled once more with his legs.

After what seemed like ages, his spindly legs drew the young man upwards. Alija too stood bracing herself against her babe. Steel eyes found her lips up again, so he did the same. Aakesh wasn't sure what the gesture meant, but it made him feel good. Wobbling as he drew the stilts straight under him, his gaze fell upon the only other horse left. Turning his head up, and up, and up thoughts trickled into his head. 'Man on man is he tall... What are those things on his back?!' Looking away from the black and gold stallion he looked at his own back, and was shocked to see wings upon himself. 'Great something else to mess with... I'll try that later.'

Turning his attention back to the male he took a deep breath. Alija tensed with her babe ready to catch him should he fall. Why were legs so hard to move?! Grumbling roughly the youngster slowly, carefully, stretched a leg out. Tentatively he placed it down. Triumph pounded through his heart. Drawing his small dome up he let out a bleat of pure joy. Confident now, he moved another leg outwards trying to reach his father. Unfortunately, the colt stumbled slipping towards the ground. 'CRAP!'

Sikeax and Gaucho's words of congratulations are lost on the black as he stares down at his newborn son. He didn't even notice them leave, still riveted in place as if his entire body had turned to stone. He pulled back his head, ears twitching back against his tangled mane. Aakesh tilted his head far back to gaze up at him, and there was a ghost of a smile across Bucephalus's lips before he tore his gaze from the colt to Alija.

"Why... why did you not tell me? Why wait?" The words were loaded, laced with his confusion, anger. Whether or not she had told him didn't particularly matter; not like his knowledge could have changed anything...save maybe prevent the ice-like shock that gripped his body and soul. No wake-up call like 'hey haha you're a dad grow the hell up'. But it wasn't entirely Alija's fault... he did, after all, stick his in hers and bada-bing boom. Baby.

And seeing the result of their night together sent a feeling through the black that he couldn't name, but it was enough to soften his features and smooth away the anger to be replaced by curiousity and interest.

Out of the corner of his eye he sees Aakesh take a step forward, and his dished face turns towards his son, watching with vivid interest as the newborn colt struggles to step towards the Morningstar. It's... well it might be hysterics but the black was finding it very hard to not laugh at the wobbliness of the colt's legs. The bleat decided for him, and a faint snort of amusement escaped him, and he remained still as Aakesh moved closer. However, it seemed as if someone got a little too sure of himself and overstepped beyond his reach. In a blur of black Altan slid his head under his son's neck and between his forelegs, raising him back to all fours before he could crash to the ground.

Only once he was sure the colt could stay standing again, the black pulled away, looking down at the purple-splattered youngster. "Aakesh... it is the name of my grandsire. An old name." He looked to Alija, curious now, an ear cocked towards her. "What made you choose such a name?"

The girl dipped her head towards her leader and healer. She had Devil's Claw in her bag, but there was no point in being rude by saying so. Sighing softly the slate blue eyes turned slowly nervously to the black and golden man. She had not meant for their first meeting to have gone so far, but his tender touch, concern for her, and joking nature had lured her. How stupid had she been for this to happen? A small smile flickered across her muzzle as she watched father and son look upon each other. As bright eyes turned to her the lilac dishes shifted to the sides nervously waiting for the ass chewing she could see coming. She could see the anger behind his eyes. Her voice trembled as she tried to hold it together, "I... I know how busy you are and... I didn't wwwant to..." She had to pause and steady herself, "Concern you. There wwasn't anything you could do, but he needs his father.." The amethyst girl withheld the last few words tumbling around in the disgruntled brain.

Love gaze fell back to her babe as she waited silently for more questions. How brave was her boy to already attempt to walk forward to meet his Da. Pride swelled within her as she gazed down at his black and purple winged frame. Smiling softly the mare listened to Aakesh squeal happily. As he stepped again his legs all seemed to slide out at once. Before she could even think to save him Bucephalus had already thrown himself forward. breath huffed from her lunges in relief. Aakesh nickered his thanks as Buce helped him become steady again.

Audits pricked again as he spoke of the name she had chosen. "It just came to me when I saw his wings.""Maybe the Sun God helped me with his name..." Soft vocals drifted away slowly as she pondered vaguely the odd idea.

Her wavering voice sent a lash of guilt as sharp as a thorn through him, and he looked away, unable to meet her gaze. Busy? "I could never be too busy for something such as this." He turned his head back towards her, although kept an eye on Aakesh in case he fell again. Her words again pierced him, and he visibily flinched, ears pinning back flat against his mane. "And if his father doesn't know how to be one?" He focused golden eyes on hers, before he breathed softly and walked towards Alija, lowering his head to press his muzzle against her crown.

"I'll not lie to you. I do not love you and Aakesh did not come from love." He pulled away, looking back towards the small colt. "But...i'll not abandon him." Not like his father did him. He moved away from Alija then, back towards the young colt. Slowly he lowered his head until he was eye to eye with his son, studying him, taking him in and imprinting every feature into his memory.

The boy took most from his mother, but Altan could see himself in the posture, the large nostrils and eyes, the faintest trace of the sharp features he himself held. "Hello...Aakesh." He said gently, softly, stretching out his muzzle to press it to his son's. Gold eyes met steely blue with a gaze that was growing softer and softer. And when he felt the warmth of his child's velvety muzzle against his own...

The Morningstar had fallen.

Aakesh enjoyed the black stallion's touch as he caught him. 'Man is he quick!' Pulling his legs carefully back under him the colt smiled up at him before looking at mamma. A strange growling sound rumbled through his body. Startled he stumbled back to his pretty mother. Thrusting his head under her belly he sighed happily. Tiny tail flicked back and forth excitedly as the adults spoke. Alija's antlered head bowed in shape at Buce's first words. His second drew a response of sweet lyrics, "Are we all not clueless in the beginning? I have no idea how to be a mother, but I can only love him." Steel blue eyes gazed warmly down at their son. His soft muzzle startled her, but she accepted it trying to return his kind gesture by leaning into him.

Sighing heavily the mare spoke again, "I know, and I wont ask for your love. What is love if not given willingly?" Soft, but not sad eyes looked calmly up at him. "I only ask that you try to love our son, and that we be friends. I don't want this to make us awkward around each other, for his sake..." As she spoke eyes drifted to the twitching tail a bubble of laughter upon purple lips.

His belly full the colt backed away from his mother. Feeling confident again he moved his tiny black and purple wings. A giggle so sweet only a child could make burst from his milk stained mouth. His father's large dished head sank to his level, very close. The laughter died instantly as he gazed quietly into the golden eyes. There was a swirly golden mark around his eye, curious. As the muzzle moved closer her reached out clumsily bumping it against the blacks', before righting the awkwardness. Careful now he pressed the soft black and purple spotted nose to his father's. Open eyes gazed deeply into the other's enjoying the closeness. Creasing his brow the colt's gentle voice fumbled out, "Dddaddy." Laughter peeled form him again happy that he had mastered yet another feet.
